Top story in the Examiner today is about local jihadists we imported from somewhere

Why anybody would give that guy the time of day is baffling let alone extensive airtime on Rte. He’s transformed himself from a PR / business consultant to a refugee advocate and migration activist. The very nerve of that guy saying that people, especially the young, need to be educated and trained about multiculturalism. Pity he didn’t do some education and training himself when he was on the board of Anglo Irish and chaired the risk and compliance committee. That bank collapse was the main reason that sent this country to the brink of sovereign bankruptcy and ended up costing taxpayers €30 billion. As if that didn’t do enough damage he’s now preaching and sermonising on something else that’s also costing the taxpayer billions.

An Eddie Hobbs reel with a women's rights barrister .The data she has collected from 6 European countries shows migrant crime very much over represented .

Holly Cairns on the Late Late saying most crime are committed by Irish citizens . Facts she repeated but there is no migrant data compiled in Ireland.

The net birth rate in 2024 for Irish citizens was 1000 which takes into account those that leave .The birth ratio is now 1.5 .

Like our own natives. Cant help themselves to lawnmovers, chainsaws, power tools, trailors and poor innocent dogs ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭donaghs

If our own "natives" were/are moving to other countries and doing this, I don't most people would be outraged if those counties wanted to deport them back to Ireland.

There have been many recent cases of traveller gangs flying in and stealing millions from Australians by committing burglaries. The Australians are not used to them yet. The annoying thing is that the papers just describe them as Irish nationals with no mention that they are from the travelling community and this is the offical career for a lot of these people.

You're wrong there, our glorious government declared those 'natives' an ethnic group - so, they're a special group in the eyes of this government and money hungry NGOs like Pavee Point, etc…

To boot, the activities carried out as mentioned above is a great little earner for the Free Legal Aid ambulance chasers - so there's an upside for them to keep their pockets lined. As usual though, the ordinary working person has to fund it all.

    Great little country.

True, and Australia has no problem deporting them

There shouldn't be a distinction. They ARE Irish nationals regardless of what they see themselves as. That particular point has caused far more problems here as well (thank you Enda Kenny!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,570 ✭✭✭creedp

Again blame the people who voted them in. We have a problem in this country with the perception they MEPs are for the failed/retired TDs or loonies that don’t even meet the threshold for a TD. Time to change that perception

Agreed, however another big problem is that many people don't understand the EU, how it works politically, or the implications beyond not having to change their money for the 2-week holiday in Spain.

Arguably this is as much a failing on the EU itself and the State as the individual. Very little effort is made to change this from what I can see - indeed, the EU is treated as a convenient scapegoat by the TDs when the need arises - eg: our "obligations" to randomers from randomwhere chancing their arm for "their share" or what we've built!

It doesn't help either that historically and culturally we've far more in common with the UK (or even the US) than anywhere on the continent.

One might also make the case that it probably suits our TDs, MEPs and the institutions in Brussels to keep the electorate largely disinterested and ignorant of what goes on.

Always found this bit from the classic sitcom "The New Statesman" to be a perfect description (go to 6:33 if the embed doesn't work):

The people who voted for Nina Carberry in the Midlands–North-West should be ashamed. Fine Gael ought to be ashamed for even nominating her. It highlights what a sham politics is if someone like her can get into the European parliament. She has ZERO political experience, but she probably got the nomination because she's female and somewhat high profile(that's highly debatable).

Speaking of debates, the only time I seen her on TV was on the Six One News with fellow candidates for the region, and she was awful. I mean truly AWFUL. Think Father Jack, and his "That would be an ecumenical matter" training.

The people voted her in because of her name, her family name and in-laws. I hear and see numerous of our other MEP's being interviewed live on TV and radio on various matters. I've never seen her on TV or radio, and I'm not surprised, she wouldn't be able for it.

Fianna Fail were guilty of this crap in the Presidential election, nominating Jim Gavin. Again, somewhat known in public, but no political experience and not suitable for the role. However, he was never going to get away without being scrutinized for that role, unlike Nina.

I wonder how many of those FG party faithful who voted for a complete novice Ms Carbery for an executive role in the EP are still jumping up and down in a tantrum because they consider President Connolly to be not fit for purpose for her non executive ceremonial role. It just clearly shows that for a large proportion of the electorate tribal civil war politics remains alive and well

Job for a shopkeeper on the Aran Islands being advertised on the Non EEU jobs portal…..

“Inis Meáin … is one of the last outposts of authentic Irish culture..” One can only assume that by inviting non Irish in, they want to change that……….I hate the lot of them

I agree 100% but what can people do? Everyone is entitled to their vote and it is frustrating when you see the likes of Carberry and others of that ilk being elected to the EU and to the Dáil and it is not just here that this happens but in every country. I have a friend in America and she voted for Trump, doesn't like him but she couldn't bring herself to vote democrat.

We see on here posters blaming the opposition for the housing crisis and not bringing forward anything and yet if they do bring something forward that is credible then the government will go on a media campaign to run the proposal down and there supporters will lap it up and look to blame the opposition again. Now in saying that the opposition in the country has been a shambles when it comes to the immigration issue with the likes of SF, SD, Lab, PBP all wanting open borders. They are really failing to read the room.

Are naturalisations too fast or just right, considering pressure on electricity, transport and housing?

Only 19% are from the EU.

The largest number of new Irish citizens came originally from India (3,946) followed by Brazil (1,708); the UK (1,541); Romania (1,354) and Nigeria (1,235).

Other countries whose natives acquired Irish citizenship in large numbers in 2024 were the Philippines, Poland, China, Pakistan and South Africa.

The figures show that 19% of new Irish citizens in 2024 – almost 4,500 individuals – came from other EU countries, mostly Romania, Poland and Latvia.

In 2024, a record 24000 received Irish citizenship - a 32% rise. The waiting time has been reduced from 24 months to 8 months.

Most of the points raised in his speech are well known facts albeit paints a bleak future . One point I never saw raised. Foreign direct investment should have been curtailed in 1996 when Ireland had full employment The lowering of the corporation tax also added to a rise in migration.

Foreign direct investment should have been curtailed in 1996 when Ireland had full employment

Ireland didn't have next to near full employment in 1996.

Full employment came later with the building boom based on unstainable cheap credit, which eventually led to a collapse in the economy, without FDI companies providing employment, the country would have been in an infinitely worse position.

No idea who the lad is in that video, but what does he suggest replacing the industries with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭rgossip30

    Unemployment in 1996 was 5.3 % in 2026 it's 4.7 % not a lot of difference .

He did say FDI should have been curtailed not terminated . The housing crisis ,.cost of rent , ,cost of asylum seekers ,medical waiting lists and the impact of the 2008 market collapse not so severe due to less migration .

The lad you refer to is Dr Eoin Lenihan . I would say his opinion holds more weight than some random poster on boards making it up as he goes along . Try proving your assertions .

Not from any of the figures I have seen.

Have you link to where you got the 5.3%?

The lad you refer to is Dr Eoin Lenihan

    Doctor of What?

If you look up the dictionary definition of 'right-wing crank,' you'll find his bio:

    '

Lenihan holds degrees in History and Archaeology from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a doctorate in Pedagogy from the University of Augsburg. Focusing primarily on politics today, he has written for a wide range of international news outlets including The Federalist, The European Conservative, Gript, Daily Caller, Quillette, Post Millennial, and has featured on AlJazeera and Fox News among others. His peer-reviewed study of Antifa uncovered damning evidence of how Antifa in the US infiltrated the national media and remains the largest empirical study of the group to date.

    '

Didn't realize Gript and Daily Caller were news outlets.

He had an interview with Hugh Linehan where he completely fell apart half way through and started dis-proving his own arguments by accident before throwing a temper tantrum when he realised.

The Celtic Tiger started in 1993/94. UN fell, but not as low as 5.3% by 1996.

See the QNHS data below for the second half of 1997.

    image.png

The UNR during 1996 was around 12%:

What characterises 1996 was high but rapidly falling unemployment. A lot of the unemployed were long-term from earlier years and sadly they are the ones to find it hardest to get back into employment even in the booming economy of those years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,983 ✭✭✭rgossip30

So apart from full employment in 1996 by early 2000 there was full employment. An error on his part. An argument could be made if migrants had not started to come to Ireland full employment could have been achieved.

The factual history of Ireland's asylum and migration is true .

A learned gent looking at his CV unless a boards poster has a higher qualification.

The only noteable inaccuracy was Gript wrongly mentioning a person in the Parnell Street stabbing .

Its interesting that there were maybe 12 asylum claims in 1992, despite the Balkan Wars breaking out then.

So he lied to suit his narrative.

A recurring theme with these cranks to be fair.
