Yeah it was a poor decision imo. We were in their 22, had a man advantage, and momentum. Even if we turned it over, Ospreys would have to go the length of the field into the wind. Sean O'Brien kicked it out, he should have left the decision to the halfbacks.

People buy season tickets, and can't attend every game. It's pretty simple. Of our group of 12, 6 couldn't make today's match

SHL deserved man of the match, i hope he's staying. Ben Murphy's performances continue to be mixed thought he mixed the good with the bad today. A few others werent great either, It's a huge ask to get 3 points in SA

The bench were calling for O'Brien to kick it out. I would have liked them to keep playing, but it didn't look to be O'Briens decision

Seven points up, well inside the opposition half, on the front foot and they're down to 14 men. Whoever's decision it was, it was a bad one.

Just back from the game and thought there was a great crowd at it for a Saturday afternoon. Really good atmosphere in the new stand again.

I didnt catch the official attendance but it must have been 7500± which is nearly double where it has been for similar games. Can only be a positive.

    Three thoughts after the game

Ref was a disgrace. If not literally getting in the way his interpretation of the ball being available at the ruck was its available for the Welsh lads but nobody else.

The 6-2 split on the bench hurts us way more than it has ever benefited us. Just stop with it now.

I dont know if O'brien was told to kick it out or did so on his own but it was absolutely the wrong decision. Sometimes I have to question if players have any sense of the game/season circumstances. The whole stadium knew that 5 points were needed. They were attacking with a strong wind against 14 players. Such a stupid decision. Nobody in the stand celebrated the win initially because we all were flabbergasted by the decision to kick it out. Someone explain it to me.

Because the capacity maximum is aspirational for now. Previous attendances against Ospreys at the Sportsground were way lower than this. We need a hype train to fill the new stadium on a regular basis.

you were very much proved right typhoony. was happy to just get the win. Ospreys had so much possession it was hard to see us even winning the game in the second half. as for kicking the ball out at the end of the game, I think Connacht had really enough. Thought again Connachts defense was good and the attack positioning and passing was slick. The huge issue was lack of possession. The Ospreys supporters were very loud in the South stand. Was wondering what the Ole Ole Ole was about. Figured it was Irish soccer supporters initially.

And as pointed out there is an issue with vacant seats in the Clan stand. Surely Connacht could offer STHs the option to put their unused tickets back into use at let's say a Euro 20 discount each time for the following year's season ticket and the resell them at EUR 45 so everyone wins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

And the ref was shocking. If for no other reason the incredible delay before Ospreys being asked to use the ball. It's nearly like he was waiting until he got an opportunity to penalize Connacht. It was so frustrating to watch. I tend not to be critical of a referee as many seem to Connacht fans are a bunch of whingers but that refereeing was brutal

Good tough game, we battled hard and deserved the win. Felt like keeping the winning run became more important than the battle for 8th place in the last couple of minutes. It was worth at least one more phase. Happy to win, disappointed that with Cardiff, Munster and Benneton losing we didn't take full advantage.

as normal there were things that annoyed me. Finlay, Denis and Heff came off and the crowd clapped them and they clapped the crowd back in appreciation. No such thing from Ben Murphy. I think it's very important to instill the understanding that the fans matter. Without the fans the team is going nowhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

and if we're to be compare Murphy to Devine , well Murphy plays a lob pass which allows the offload while Devine plays the low pass which allows the receiver to crash the defense. Each to themselves on that one

I expect he will probably go but it would be great to keep SHL. He's a better player these days than Will Connors who looks like his replacement. Not sure why they didn't tie him down to a contract earlier or whether the injury had something to do with it.

Very different, those lads have been around for years and there is a real connection, everyone likes Ben but it's like getting to know you period you can't compare. When Ben gets the appreciation it will be 100% genuine.

We were poor for first half of the season and its a bit too late to try and turn things 180degrees at this stage with a handful of games left. Always aspirational to get top 8 imho - key games are munster (H) and Edinburgh (A).

bonus to get anything out of SA games.

    possible but unlikely, unfortunatley

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,732 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Munster picking up two bonus points probably puts them out of range imo. I see it playing out roughly like this:

Looking like the games vs Lions could be a shootout for 8th, unless Cardiff drop points, most likely against Stormers.

Lancaster said he would have rathered they went for the bonus point at the end.

How did that message not get to the players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 928 ✭✭✭RonnieL

They're never going to throw someone under the bus, but it seems to me it was likely a case of miscommunication (or just an individual mistake by O'Brien). It was obvious from the reaction of the players that most of them were focused on pushing for the 4th try. No doubt it was discussed this morning in the review. Plenty of opportunity for twists and turns between now and the final day, but for me the main thing is we're in the hunt - nothing worse than a season being over with a few rounds to go.

I was looking at the SA games this weekend… They are not unbeatable.

Stormers took a long time to put away a Edinburgh team that is struggling, was 7 - 7 at half time.. Lions were pretty even with Dragons for 50 min…

All three team have won there last 3 games but it isn't as crazy as it normally feels..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭CowboyTed

Bulls are thru, very eay run in…

Munster could be playing on the last day… I would give them Bentton away but Ulster and ourselves could cause problems….

Cardiff have two tricky late games…

I have feeling you need 51 points this year. That means we need to win 3 games… tough ask but they are playing well..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Now I haven't seen the game on TV yet but I thought defense and attack looked really fluid. Lineout on our ball I believe was 100%. Scrum was steady if not incredible. Looking at Ospreys I thought their defense was solid while their attack was the linear attack we have suffered with for years. So things we need to look at. Much of our kicking out of hand was shocking in the second half when we had the wind advantage. And questions have to be asked as why we really seemed to have very little possession throughout the game.

Looks like SHL isnt being offered a contract by connacht

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,732 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Where have you seen that? Frustrating if true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭bingobango12

I don't understand Connacht with these type of decisions at times. Would have Hurley-Langton as a better player than Will Connors, 4 years younger, already settled in the squad and a better injury record. I can't understand you signing Connors but letting SHL go if you're correct. Farrell the other obvious one from a couple seasons back.

Would be delighted if Leinster offer him a contract with Van Der Flier turning 34 next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,325 ✭✭✭testtech05

Whatever about him leaving id be absolutely raging if they hadn't offered him a deal. He showed 1st game back at the weekend what he has been doing since he joined pretty much

Don't like that at all, assuming it's not due to NIQ restrictions. He's one of our best players when fit.

One of the other provinces should pick him up if we let him go.

I'd be of the opinion that if he's not offered a contract it's because he's told them he isn't staying.
