There's a long-standing tradition (especially in "shithole" countries /s) of the military deciding to take action to rein in their own head-of-state and/or impose local regime change when the situation gets out of hand.

Trump loves his classical European traditions, so fully deserves at this stage to enjoy a good Caesarian back-stabbing, or perhaps a date with Madame la Guillotine.

    Unfortunately it probably won't happen

I'd say legal consequences is an outside chance atm (hope springs eternal though).....the country worships money and success (even the trappings of it) above all else and those with money and power don't want to be setting a precedent..…

Also .... admitting "I was very very wrong" might be difficult for a lot of Trump voters.

Is that a real post? If so, I'll give this awful man "credit" for one thing: he is a first class troll

They had the chance to not elect Trump but chose to double down and reelect him. They cant claim ignorance for his second term. They are getting exactly what they wanted, voted for and deserve. If they were too stupid to know what they were voting for, then thats why Trump targeted them.

There definitely is the sunk cost fallacy at play.

I used to always think the stereotype of the “dumb American” was a lazy generalisation.

America always had enough smart people or grown ups in the room to protect itself from a carpetbagging politician.

It feels like trumpism represents a tipping point in history. There is now a critical mass of uninformed, selfish marks(to put it as kindly as I can) in the US. It’s possible that a new era of incompetence and chaos could be dawning upon us.

The red flags have always been there. Huge inequality in terms of wealth and education has divided the populace into the “haves” and the “resentful with low attention span”.

The fact that scams like the Popoff Ministries and other televangelist grifters made millions from the public tells us that it isn’t new. there is a ever growing swathe of the US population that are such easy marks for populist demagoguery.

I read this morning that Israel has confirmed its soldiers will not be joining the US in the ground invasion of Iran, due to the concern that they would have to fight grown men, rather than unarmed women and children

The USA is unprepared to fight the modern drone war. Trump haven't sunk too many costs and not many Americans were killed yet.

I have listened to a few podcasts during the weekend, and now I think that the best thing for the USA and Trump is to declare the victory and walk away from the Middle East right now. Because any further escalation will bring losses on the American side, the scale of deaths that were painful in Vietnam, and that are unthinkable to Americans nowadays.

So it is much better to feck off now. I would love to see the Iranian regime removed, but I have absolutely no hope that Trump is capable of that. He is pedaling back already, when asked who is going to control the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said "Me and the next ayatollah", I am sure the Arab peninsula countries are overjoyed that if Trump's "plan" works they will have to pay ransom fees to Trump and to Iran.

Doubt very much if Trump and his religious element led by pastor Paula White, a Christian Trumpist, will listen to what Leo says after all they are competing for the same dollar.

The problem is that the US just walking away creates so many other problems.

The gulf states will certainly question the point of having US bases in their country is.

The massive investments that the Gulf states have been doing in the US will start to be questioned. It was on the basis of we invest in the US and in return for money they also get the inplicit security provided by the US. Why bother investing if that part of the equation is gone? They will continue to invest, for there is money to be made, but America now becomes only one option.

Iran will know that controlling the Straits is the key to their surival, and so will Israel. Any future attempt to attack Iran will lead to the closure of the strait and the mess that creates.

While the US may look to simply walk away, and you can hear plenty in the US calim that the Strait isn't important as the U has enough oil, unless the US is going to nationalise the oil companies then the price of oil will continue to set internationally. They could look to break this, but that would remove the US$ as the currency with the knock on effects on the US costs of borrowing.

So while the easiest, and quickest option, is to simply say they won and walk away, the medium to long term effects of such a decision will be massive to botht he US and the ME as a whole.

So Trump has confirmed they they are building a military base underneath the ballroom, only because he was forced to arising from a law suit taken over its construction.

At this stage in this poxy timeline, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he is planning to launch nukes and emerge afterwards to see what's left ala Fallout

Of course, I agree 100%. But it is a balancing act — if Trump walks away now, his MAGA base will praise him for it, and he may not lose as catastrophically in the midterms. To even have a possibility of a win in Iran, Trump would need to commit hundreds of thousands of soldiers over several years. This will perplex MAGA and will not endear Trump to democrats either.

I really appreciate the information that this is an AI generated image. It can often be too difficult to tell.

(ok, yes, yes, I get it)

At least one of those military bases is appropriately named for the commander in chief😀!

Even if he walked away now oil prices would remain elevated well into next year for all the infrastructure in the gulf that was damaged. He'd still need to park blame on someone so he can move onto Cuba.

Trump's looking for his way out with his usual Monday blethering. Now saying negotiations have made 'great progress' with a 'new and more reasonable regime' but if they do not reach a deal, he 'will conclude our lovely stay in Iran' by obliterating all energy infrastructure, oil wells and desalination plants. Sounds like war crimes to me and more disruption to European oil supplies.

This time the oil price has barely reacted. They know he's just talking bs.

I was just - foolishly - listening to a video of a maga person arguing for trump. She had no critical thinking skills and no understanding of the meaning of words. It is not possible to debate someone who does not understand the basic, dictionary, definition of words. (She said that Charlie Kirk's death was celebrated by Dems, but Trump saying that he was glad that Robert Mueller was dead was not celebrating, because he (Mueller) was a horrible person who told lies about Trump.)

The destruction of the US education system has been a success.

Exactly.. If he walks away today , even if you ignore the damage to physical infrastructure , it could take 6-9 months for oil supplies to get back to normal and prices still won't come all the way back down.

BUT you do have to factor in the damage , which the French government last week estimated was up to 20% of the oil/gas production capacity in the middle east so Oil & Gas prices are not going down for at least the rest of his term in office.

UPS have added an 8% "energy cost" charge on to all their deliveries and at least so far there hasn't been any vocal push-back from the WH to them doing so.

Compare that to the reaction a few months ago that forced a climb-down when Amazon and others said they were going to add a "tariff charge" line item to their invoices. Even they know they can't deny the cause.

More and more companies will start adding a charge and clearly calling it out for what it is - A Trump "war tax".

The ONLY thing that has a chance to burn through the MAGA Cult loyalty is the cost of living.

We are moving into the time of year with the highest energy demands in the US due to Air Conditioning and summer travel and they are going to be paying massively increased prices right in the middle of the mid term election campaign.

Used to be a time when Arab countries would not invest in US as they felt is was a Jew ridden/controlled country.

As an example for years Godolphin would not race or train horses over there or even have a stud base, this has all changed.

Talking about his big beautiful ahead of schedule under budget ballroom, and underground military bunker,

Speaking aboard Air Force One on Sunday, the president gave reporters details of the underground military development and trashed The Times for its report, fixating on its claim of “faux windows” as he defended his “beautiful” ballroom as “ahead of schedule and under budget.”

Holding up artists’ renderings of the finished product drawn up that day, the president apologized for the impromptu presentation, adding he was busy “fighting wars and other things” as he made his case:

To busy fighting wars, oops can't use that word, but the other things are…………….

Donald Trump has golfed 103 daysout of 435 days since returning to office(23.7% of the presidency spent golfing)

The Kennedy assassination conspiracy film "Executive Action" where senior U.S Oil industry people [Will Geer as Harold Ferguson] are portrayed as funding the assassination, including funding the living retirement of the assassination crew and planners after the deed was done because they didn't like the president's policies and wanted to solve the problems caused by the policies. Trump is a U.S problem and it has a history in knocking off "disruptive" presidents, as Trump knows.

It’s like the horses. Before the first you’re going to make millions and before the last you’ll settle for getting back to where you were yesterday.
