You can have perfect teeth and bad gums at the same time. Some people have gum disease which persists no natter what they do.

The deep clean is bad the first time but much easier after that once you get it done regular.

flossing and maybe even buying an air flosser. My dental nurse was the same and kept at me until eventually my gums improved massively with no/minimal bleeding going on

I'll look into that. Dublin based at the moment, so there are options.

Yeah you can have it for years before symptoms. As I said the first deep clean is by far the worst so the regular clean won't be that bad.

I'd agree with getting a second opinion.

Clean your mouth with castor oil. Swish it around for a few minutes. I'll be surprised if you've still gum disease after a couple of weeks

For a lot of people gum disease is for life and is incurable. When they say your teeth might fall out they mean over years rather than in the near future.

    So relax.

Like most posters suggest, the first deep clean is heavy for sure. Finish it out for the second half. But absolutely for sure any future deep cleaning won't be so deep, therefore easier.

My wife had some gum bleeding 10 years ago but otherwise her teeth looked fine and had no gum sensitivity. Hygienist suggested my wife should undergo deep cleaning (which she agreed was painful..) but now 10 years later she hasn't lost a tooth, no gum issues, no loose teeth. In her own words 'best decision she ever made'

So @PixelCrafter go for it. You'll thank yourself 10 / 20 years from now :-)

Is it a new to you dentist, or new in the area? And you said your new-ish dentist, how often are you going?

Something about this is off, can't exactly put finger on it but I'd almost wonder if they're being opportunist, and a little but preying on someone they know they can get money out of

100% get a second opinion. I changed my dentist of many years few years ago, practice had expanded massively and I really felt I was being pushed to have things that were not necessary. Like you I was told I needed the deep clean, went for it, cost 180 first year. Second year after standard prsi clean was told I needed deep clean again and it's now 250 and I should probably have it every 6 months. Plus I needed replacement of a root canal! No evidence at all that I needed that in my opinion and now nearly 3 yrs later no issues at all with it (I did actually go to a specialist dentist for 2nd opinion on that and he agreed do nothing until there was some indication of a problem).

Anyway was so peed off with what I considered was unnecessary upselling I went back to a dentist I had used 20 odd yrs ago, not a mention of gum problems or needing a 'deep clean', just got the ordinary prsi clean for 15 quid two years in a row now, needed a filling alright.

I really think some of them these days are going a bit 'do you want fries with that' especially the more modern fancier practices, something has to pay for it!

my suggestion about getting a second opinion was informed by experience; i've been to two dentists who completely overegged the work required, and unfortunately i allowed one to do a lot of it.

There's pretty much no evidence for oil pulling being effective. Ignore this advice, try and calm down (I feel you're catastrophising quite a bit here) and get a second opinion, as others have said.

Interdentals. Different sizes for different gaps.

Remember the primary aim is to clean your gums not your teeth.

If there's some bleeding or sensitivity keep going because that's where you need to clean.
