You mean the people who are saying Murphy should have been sent off?

If you think that wasnt a red, you are utterly clueless.

As for anyone crying about Donegal winning a competition, they didnt even want to enter last year, all in your own head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,742 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Donegal completely rinsed Dublin up in Ballybofey last year 1st game of league. But after last years AI collapse I now have a question mark on it like you do.

I think part of the problem could be that McGuinness puts way too much store into the Ulster championship. That seems to be his main goal each year.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Oh I don't think kerry went out to lose.

However I'd say Jack was already planning several speeches and angles to use from about 10 mins into the 2nd half.

Its mad the Stockholm syndrome some people have about certain teams.

Anyone else would be getting laughed out of Croke Park after a battering like that but somehow this is exactly what crafty Jack wanted and they are now more likely to win the All Ireland.

The shadow boxing excuse is overdone too. If Limerick were to shadow box next week and get a battering from Cork I will be fuming

I dont think they went to lose either, a beating like that wouldn't be in the plan at all, but with the new rules football is like hurling, if you are a bit off or leggy you can ship a hiding. Donegal were very good too it must be said, very slick, huge pace and accuracy in everything they did.

I would still have Kerry favs for the AI, they got hammered by Meath in championship last year and then ploughed half of Ulster after it.

Kerry are the AI champions with possibly the greatest player of all time in his prime. Anyone laughing them out of Croke Park at the end of March has a lot to learn.

Donegal are well ahead fitness wise. It was as obvious to me when I was at Mayo match in Letterkenny as it was today.
They won’t be in July when they meet Kerry again in the semi final or final.
Murphy incident will be highlighted big time now too. It has to be at this stage.
The next few months will define what kind of legacy McGuinness leaves. They shot out of the traps last year too but it’s hard keep that level of running going until end of July.

The amount of armchair psycho analysing in these comments is comical. And several of you seem to have the memory of a goldfish.

A few comments up the thread here someone said Kerry wouldn't be beaten again this year. Now Kerry are a busted flush and will struggle in Munster. In case anyone has forgotten Kerry went into last year's game against Armagh showing some truly ropey form and many of their own fans predicted another gloomy day in Croke Park. Few weeks later they're champs. They're a fine team and possess the best forward in the current game, but they're nowhere close to a great Kerry team.

As far as I can see there's not a huge amount between these two teams. I'd expect one of them to win it out this year. Armagh definitely in there, too. As for the wink and nod mind games stuff? Give me a break. Neither of those managers does losing. Certainly not in national league finals.

On the plus side as a Kerryman... last time Meath won Div 2 league was 2007.. last time donegal won Div 1 was 2007.. and Kerry went onto win Sam Maguire that year..

Hopefully history will continue to repeat itaelf

Still favourites to win in July but calling today anything other than a disaster and pretending it's a morale coup for Kerry is ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,742 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

The last two times Dublin got relegated….Dublin won Sam after….🤔

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Hate to break it to you, but it's the likes of yourself that takes away the gloss for a neutral to shout for Donegal - even against the multi winners like Kerry and Dublin

Great win for Donegal it's, its not often Kerry get a hammering like that, I doubt the likes of Clifford and S O Se has taken such a beating before in a Kerry Jersey, it won't do them any harm in my opinion and might drive them on.

You’ve got your knickers in a twist. I didn’t even mention Murphy. It was mostly the Donegal are throughly dislikable comment and the amount of likes it had. Look I’ve been glancing in here for a while. A lot of people hate mcguiness and don’t like Donegal and there’s a lot of whinging that accompanies that. I see elsewhere as well.

That’s fair enough but let’s not deny that reality and make out that Donegal are liked. I couldn’t care less if were liked, as I said it makes it all the more sweeter when we win. Pointing that however some how triggers you though so you must be one those people I was talking about. Thank you for making it sweeter.

Cant be anything more pathetic than a keyboard warrior coming straight on here after winning a title to settle some imaginary scores.

No one really talked about us at all in years between McGuinnesses reigns so nice being in all the mix again... some will never get over 2011.

There is some mad stuff here though, O'connor/kerry can usually bide their time to the AI series to peak, but an emerging cork maybe a bigger pain in their plans as it was 09-12.

On Donegal... we've been at this fitness level every year in Jim's reign. Its got us to 3 AI finals, we reached one total before that. Meath in the semi last year was a joint record win for us (tempered by new rules). Kerry pulled it out from 3pts to 10 in the last 10 mins last year but we didnt have the stamina?... never any talk that the new rules allow scores to add up past. They also pulled back 7pts at the end today.... maybe their fitness was better? No....?

Jack had tactics right in July, Jim today. Both have players to come in. Last 2 results won't matter should we meet again

What a horribly bitter post but not surprising as I've seen this before from this poster.

Seriously get over yourself! Your team completely hammered the AI champs. A very comprehensive beating in Croke Park that will really stand to them psychologically after last year's defeat. And that's twice this year they beat Kerry, the only team to do so, so hats off to them! So you're talking bollox about begrudgery unless you're in denial about the very obvious red card Murphy deserved. He was extremely lucky to get away with it and it's childish to call the many who are pointing that out begrudgers.

I'm far from an expert on Gaelic football but it seems to me that winning kickouts is the single most determining factor. All the top teams have players able to get scores, but in the AI final Kerry were winning most of the kickouts today especially in the 1st half when it was still a contest after about 10 mins Donegal were winning the Kerry kickouts. Made a massive difference.

In the first half, I thought it was the wind and the sun that were giving Donegal the advantage but the second one showed it was game management.

Kerry started each half faster whereas Donegal took their time before getting a hold of it and just passing it about. Some great movement and patience from them as they got closer to goal and then standing tall when Kerry closed in on their goal. They were impressively drilled, well deserved victory for them.

That burst of goals was just bizarre, though. It was a spell where Kerry were stunned and didn't know what was it going on. Three times in a row they cut right through them. I couldn't believe it. The Donegal fans around us were saying they'd bored the Kerry players to death with all that passing.

Kerry's kick outs were terrible all game. They could blame the wind in the first half but didn't improve much in the second half.

What Murphy did was a certain red card . Shocking tackle. Hope he gets a ban.

I don't dislike him though. Admired him for years for been a magnificent footballer and seems a nice guy too. Mcguinness is an easy target too for know it alls to dole out abuse because of his style of play I guess.

Lot of keyboard warriors on social media nowadays have the maturity of a 10 year old

Change in midfield is big for Donegal. Lot of big men around that area now. Kickouts are huge in the modern game. Incredibly hard to beat Kerry if you lose the kickout battle.

Can the Murphy incidented be revisited by the powers that be ? Deserves a while in the stands for the carry on today

The ref should be made clarify what the yellow was for as he gestured a strike which is a straight red

Some excellent goals in the Division 1 game today, good to see a game that isn’t dominated by 2 pointers, well worked and well finished goals are the best part of the game. The O’Donnell goal is as good as you will get with great patience in the build up the injection of pace when the space is worked and a great finish. Clifford’s finish made it look so easy, great to watch after a game where Kerry struggled to give him the chances to show his ability.

I understand the ref didn't see it, which is fair enough, but the linesman saw it, told the ref, the ref indicated it was for a stike which would be a red. Unless the linesman didn't see the last punch, which would be hard to argue, straight red and fully deserved had he got it. The whole game changes straight away as Kerry playing 14 would have gone short with the kickouts with the extra man.

She must have been in Ballyshannon to see what Casey did there.

Kerry got to a league final almost by accident last year and then won it. Written off before the AIQF against Armagh, steamrolled through them, plus the next two teams and became unexpected AI champions.

Fast forward to this year and Kerry are already overhyped. So today's hammering bring things back to reality a bit.Kerry can be very dangerous but are also inconsistent. As a Kerry person I very much want them to lift Sam this year for number 40, but Donegal are every bit as likely to lift Sam. Or indeed another team could well cause a major shock this year. Such is sport and it's only March.
