Hi everyone, my 10 year old Hyundai Tucson diesel is starting to show its age and TBH not ideal car for our family with most of our journeys less than 50km (one coast to coast trip every few months). Need something similar size ideally, budget approx €22k. Options at the minute are (1) new model Tucson hybird, like the interior, auto, petrol hybird although could be thirsty in the current climate, hopefully reliable and decent resale in the future. (2) Ioniq 5, should give good savings in fuel costs but im a bit concerned about future value and the issues of tech glitches that will come with an aging EV which i will keep for 5+ years. Any advise welcome

A €22K budget means you’re buying used which means future resale is less of an issue. The heavy depreciation is already out of the way. I’d go EV all the way if you can charge at home on night rate electricity. Factor in around €1000 for a 7kW wallbox. Many Ioniq 5’s have a relatively small 54kWh battery, can be got with a 73kWh battery but quite rare. Depends how much range you think you’ll need. If going EV, Kia EV6, Enyaq, ID.4 etc. all worth considering. If you’re not trying to trade the Tuscon, sometimes they are savings to be had by buying in N.I. (No VRT, customs or VAT to pay on qualifying EV’s)

You will easily get a 3 year old Renault Megane E-Tech for that budget,

Clasay and stylish with a great operating system inside. Whats not to like.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
