Medical card opticians

Is there much difference between medical card and prsi benefit amounts for opticians. My glasses broke so need new ones urgently. I have a medical card but I'm not sure if I've enough PRSI contributions. I booked an appointment with specsavers for tomorrow and mentioned medical card and there was no mention of a delay/hse form.

I'm seeing older comments where you have to get a form sent to the hse before you can even get the eye test and it could take weeks to be approved and then longer again till you actually get the glasses.

I went to a previous optician that just took the discount off at the time, definitely didn't have to complete any forms.
