Dash Cam Install and Fuse Box / OBD Port

Ok got a Dash Cam installed Fitcamx and working fine

However for the Parking mode to work another wire needs to be connected. It can either be connected to the Fuse box or the OBD port

The installer not keen on either as any connection to fuse box may affect warranty and Toyota said the same. For OBD connection they said it will drain battery. FitCam x saying I can set it to ACC mode which does not run 24 hours

So anyone got this installed and connected to OBD and can if Bugger up the Electrics in the car or drain the battery or is it best just to forget parking mode and keep front and back camera

You can get a fuse device that plugs into a fuse and has two new fuse connections one for the original and one for your new device. So you do not need to cut or join wires which will effect warranty.

Installer says Yes but Fitcamx supplier says no if installed set it to ACC mode and not 24 hours.

This is biggest fear as dont want to drain battery. Is any option to power elsewhere other than battery pack?

One thing though I don't think that one I linked is a standard size. I just Googled and clicked on that link.

Does you cigarette lighter socket in your car work when the keys are out, if not then power it from that. easy enough to take out to provide a hard wired solution. that way tit wont drain the battery, as it wont have a supply.

Was thinking that so must check. I have a Super voc Car Charger plugged into it for phone not sure if this will affect it. Also can wires be hidden from camera down to back of Lighter?

If it's going to be powered 24/7 which is what parking mode is then yes it will drain the battery but very slowly

Acc mode is pointless as that's the power you already have that needs the key in and turned to work

I hardwired my nextbase dashcam to the fuse box. The hardwire kit has a voltage cut off that turns off the dashcam if the battery voltage gets too low. So that installer doesn't seem to have much of an idea..

As said above mine is hardwired to the fuse box and the dashcam turns off if the battery gets to a certain voltage. I've had zero issues with it and never had a flat battery because of it

Sorry to jump in here I have 2024 hybrid Rav & i had the main dealer hardwire my Blackvue camera in to my car. It worked well with my Dr900x but that gave up a Cctober 2025 & just swapped to dr970x but parking now never seems to last it just shuts down a after a min or few secs. (i know blackvue is crap never again) I never has issues with my Car Battery
