If they put boots on the ground, they'll need supplies. Even if they are airborne troops, and just take Kharg Islamd, they'll need supplies- and that means either continuous airdrops of stuff from slow moving, low flying, big aircraft that could be vulnerable: or from slow, big ships coming into range of Iranian coastal defences.

Again this could turn into another massive, quick American victory that instead becomes a bigger down, expensive quagmire

Going into the midterms and what are the three main achievements of Trump.

    1) ICE killing Americans

    2) The Tarrifs debacle

    3) war in Iran and resulting oil prices

    4) Inflation

No wonder he wants to stop them from happening

I think you need a dictatorial leader to keep a hate group in line- the matriarch of that family was so removed from her kids emotionally, that when some departed from the cult, she cut off all contact and condemned them all to hell -it didn’t seem to phase her at all.

MAGA has a lot in common with cult behaviour- you can see how Trump and others attacked Joe Kent who resigned recently from his role as “weak” and his claims about the Iranian war as “laughable”.

Completely taken from the cult playbook.

He referred to lutnick slyly during the nauseating conference yesterday....I'd be nervous if I was lutnick, he's first up on the chopping block imo.....hegseth might be fed to the wolves next, then rubio...(he half tried to transfer more blame to PETE et al in a previous press conference saying something to the effect he wanted to go to war more than I did). Worrying times for the retards that are perpetrating this on behalf of the orange cretin.......they should have who's going to be thrown under the bus/order of sacrificial lambs available to speculate on via a prediction market .....the only reason most of them are involved is advancement/money or they lack mental capacity/some combination of both....I'd say Trump basically had to settle for the scrapings on the bottom of the barrel that ordinarily wouldn't have gone far ..after most of substance decided they'd rather not be involved or retired...

And he'd probably be happy with that, they really are his people in a way...he's right down there at the bottom of the barrel himself....

Great analysis from the Guardian and worth a few minutes of your time: Many agree, Iran is playing a weak hand very well right now- the price of oil when the markets eventually catch up with a fast changing landscape will dictate the way forward.

“Philip Gordon, a former foreign policy adviser to Kamala Harris when she was US vice-president, thinks “there is no chance Iran will agree to Trump’s demands and the longer the US holds out for them, the more costs and pain everyone will endure. In the short term at least, limits on Iran’s nuclear programme, ballistic missiles, support for proxies and threat to the strait are all more likely to be ensured through deterrence and prevention than with a comprehensive, formal agreement, and the sooner we recognise that, the better off we will be.”

The former head of the Iran desk at Israel’s military intelligence, Danny Citrinowicz, also predicted that by the expiry of Trump’s latest 10-day deadline, Iran would not surrender, would not accept the 15-point framework, would not relinquish control of Hormuz and would continue attacks on Israel and the Gulf states. After that, Trump will face a decisive choice: a further escalation of tensions, a retreat or a push for a negotiated settlement similar to the one Iran offered in March. The UN is not going to sanction the use of force to reopen the strait, Europe will not participate and the G7 will not endorse it.”

    Good article..

'One diplomat recently involved in the peace talks says he fears that if Trump cannot see a way out, he will resort to a nuclear weapon.'

    @Brief_Lives , @For Forks Sake

As this is the Trump thread, I should of course have claimed that I posted it better than anyone else, or denied that the OP had posted it first 😉!

Senate has agreed to pass the Department of Homeland Security funding bill (which includes funding TSA) by excluding funding for ICE.

Sounds like the Democrats have won this one, the ICE funding was what they objected to, though it's not likely to be the last we hear of this.

Other additions Democrats wanted to add aren't included.

I can see everybody trying to claim credit for this one, including Trump who signed an executive order to pay TSA agents even though he would have know the bill was going to pass now

so Trump kept top secret documents for his own financial gain. And showed them off to people.

Sounds like Trump alright but won’t make the news.

Yet another opportunity to state that the system of passing bills in the U.S. is utterly not fit for purpose.

Trump has paused targeting power infrastructure for another 10 days, guess we will probably see that happen over the weekend when markets are closed, they are declining as if it is known he is going to mess up even more than he has thus far.

It's made the news (how else did you, and I, hear about it?) But, whether there's charges/indictments/…. Probably not - he moved the documents while still POTUS, so immunity and all that. Remember 'declassifying with his mind?'

And this is why Aileen Cannon's got to be on the list for SCOTUS should a vacancy come up. Dems have to pack the court once they've got the WH again to counteract the likes of Kavanaugh, Roberts, Gorsuch, Barrett and whoever CFTrump replaces Alito and Thomas with.

It's been threatened in the past during national challenges like Roosevelt's election and the depression where holdover fossil GOP on the SCOTUS types tried to block everything, but became more tractable once the threat was becoming more of a reality, but FDR never packed the court.

Of course, should the Democrats take the House and Senate, there's always impeachment but if happens during CFTrump's term, they'll have to resort to the McConnell dodge to prevent CFTrump from putting clones back onto the court. If both Thomas and Alito are gone without replacements, that'll make for a very interesting 7 member SCOTUS, Roberts suddenly will have a lot of power as an occasional 'swingish' vote.

Amusing nickname for the 4 judges that opposed FDR (all of whom were in place before his election): "The Four Horsemen"

VIX, the volatility index has climbed to its highest reading since the initial attack on Iran, although it's still way below its tariff announcement high last April.

Trump's new ten day deadline, which is a Taco on his previous Taco isn't easing the markets as they now seem to be pricing in that Iran are now in control of this energy crisis.

Trump has no good options for de-esculation other than meeting Iran's demands, which means he'd sooner move on than concede anything to Iran. The upshot being that what crude getting through will not be for payments in the SWIFT system, even if Trump lifts sanctions on Iran crude in transit.

It is ironic that the signature of the very person doing most to undermine the petrodollar may appear on it.

I think thats a real danger. And is there anyone around him sensible enough to talk him out of it ? On the evidence so far that looks doubtful. You can only hope that it would be a step too far, even for that awful bunch.

Can I just state the obvious.

Trump has been every bit as bad as the worst expected of him in the predictions/analysis leading up to the last election.

The Tariffs, the War mongering, the dismissal of the Constitution, the Grifting, the Insider Training, the Ignorance, the Division, the Racism, the Lying, the Insulting.

All of it was predicted and it has all played out, and inside 18 months mind! In some ways, the die is cast and all that is left to happen is for the chips to fall where they are going to.

In 2, 5, 10 when he is finally (hopefully) gone in every sense, this term will be described as the most psychotic and sycophantic Presidencies that any of us have ever seen.

It is a shameful embarrassment of the US that such a fool could gain and hold power as he has done. This disaster of a conflict (from the US's perspective) with Iran has shown that EU/NATO countries have finally stood up to him and it is a lesson they should not forget and row back from. The EU in particular should prioritize its relationships and strengthening for the next 20 years minimum and let the US focus on itself and clear up the sh*tshow that Trump's presidency has shown exists within its own country.

I agree that all of what you state about Trump is obvious and true. What is inexcusable is the way so much of the mainstream/legacy media underplay the sheer stupidity and venality of the administration, even to the extent of indulging in "both sides" type platitudes.

When Trump/Hegseth/Leavitt parrot "Peace through Strength" It is the same as a large schoolyard bully saying 'give me your sandwiches amd I won't beat you up'
