    No he wasn't

Took his penalty well but unfortunately I think he is done at this level

    Seriously what were you watching

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,265 ✭✭✭✭tom1ie

It was a peno. Soft but still a peno.
The free kick was never a free kick.

Nope tonight was the 4th after Romania 1990, Spain 2002 and Slovakia 2020

Why the hell did Heimer not put Knight on the pitch for this huge match tonight?

If he came on; he could have been a brilliant addition to the other 10 lads on the pitch if he was given the nod to play for our country tonight on one of our most important nights in our WC qualification campaign.

I'm sickened that he didn't even get one inch of a look in at all for this entire match because he could have made a huge difference to the outlook of it tonight in more ways than one. It's absolutely crazy to me that he wasn't seen anywhere to be playing a part at all.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see other Irish fans agree with me after seeing the aftermath of our team's game plan tonight.

I'm gutted that Ireland have lost out against the Czechs tonight. We were doing so well in the early stages of the match against them. We looked like we could have achieved something really historic all over again like what happened in Budapest last November.

But alas; things like corruption & cheating within the Czech setup have fostered the ability to win them huge games like this one when it matters most to the detriment of the losing side. And Ireland had no choice with them being the butt of the joke in being that team on the losing side tonight.

Felt Azaz should have came off instead of molumby in ET. Felt that was a poor managerial decision. There was a couple in the game that still have me questioning Heimar. In saying that we definitely had the chances to win the game, in spite Czechia having the much better of the 2nd half without threatening

I think they played a lot like we do. It was a very physical game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

We were breezing past the not-so-great Danes next week. Azaz & Browne took that away from us.

Browne's been playing really well this season, in a much better team, and carrying a goal threat.

I like Knight, but I don't think it was a crazy decision or anything.

Gave away a stupid penalty and had 2 men in front of the goal scorer for their headed goal.
Once the penalty went in we withdrew into the final 3rd of the pitch, cant have any arguments tbh.

Takes some stones to step up to take a peno.

Chiedozie Ogbene was brilliant tonight. I know it was a match of defending but he was the only one decent at attacking.

You were doing reasonably well until the last paragraph.

    What corruption?

    What cheating?

    Get a grip.

They are a very dislikeable team, never saw so much diving and cheating, then the siren going off every time our players took a penalty. I would cheer on England if they were playing them.

Some **** questions there from Tony. The RTE boys are the only ones feeling worse than the Irish fans, because they won't all be getting a highly paid holiday to the world cup.

Ah would people give over, the world is a pretty divided and bleak place at the moment. The country could have done with some hype and excitement. Something that everyone can get behind. I love the WC but I've only ever seen Ireland play in one and I was a 8.

Azaz helped turn the game for us late on in Budapest with a brilliant assist. So wouldn’t criticize the decision to keep him on in fairness.

But his penalty was a poor strike

Such a massive player for us… means we always have an option to relieve the pressure. Had some lovely moments - especially a few minutes before our second, the ball he pulled back to the penalty spot after beating his man… it was just between two of our players, but was exactly the area a speculative ball should go. Just a properly tireless runner… the drop off to Idah was marked (very different sorts of players of course, but even just effort level).

He really was very good and we missed him when he went off. Just wish Idah could even show the same energy.

After the initial wave of sickness, I’d be very encouraged by our last few games. Manager is absolutely the right man for our level and if he can build on this we should be a good shout to get to euros (regardless of the guaranteed spots).

I mean 12 months ago I thought we’d be lucky to finish 3rd in any group, I can’t see how we could reasonably expect much more.

2 of my children came home from friends houses disgusted, that’s so unique , there’s no other sport that does this, not even rugby. I’m gonna bring them all to the match on Tuesday , you gotta take the bad, get behind the team after the defeats which makes the good times better.

I think the squad has done us proud and I Hope Sammy is ok.

poor Troy Parrott🥲Didi looking more like Santy Claus every time I see him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,690 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

    Parrot devastated

Will Tony try another stupid question ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,142 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

He's presumably talking about the big corruption scandal breaking in Czech football at the moment - has nothing to do with international football though, more an endemic thing in the domestic game.

<edit> the quote was removed <edit>

Cullen a big miss tonight, as was a fit and in-form Ferguson.

We should go into the Euro qualifiers with confidence. We probably will lose Coleman (id love to see him btought in to the management team) and hopefully have seen the last of Brady and Idah.

Kelleher, Collins, O Shea, Cullen, Parrot, Ferguson - a decent backbone that we can build a competitive team on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,727 ✭✭✭caviardreams

    great interview by Troy there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,177 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Only positive out of this is it's the last time Robbie Brady will be on the team sheet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Add Ogbene to that. Always does well for Ireland. We still desperately need a quality midfield player but don't see who's out there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,080 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Yeah that siren was lousy carry on.

A niggly, unlikeable team for sure. At least the Danes should easily beat them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,161 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Pricks putting on sirens for our pens. Shower of unlikeable ****

    Agreed

He’s a superb example for the kids , proper character , a male role model showing emotion without any regret , defends his team mates and he’s hopeful even after that heart break , fantastic stuff
