It's a bit of what if but wouldn't you just love to know how we'd have gotten on if the brainfart pen hadn't happened. We were flying at the time and they were creaking.

2-0 up and a brain fart gives away a penalty

    Changed the whole game

Czech made some decent substitutions. We had tired legs in the end

Too much media hype all week

Honestly this type of attitude can f*ck right off. How dare people get excited that we could possibly reach the World Cup.

I was actually surprised at how bad they were. They were bang average which doesnt say much for us

Collins hitting the bar, Molumby hitting the post and it not bouncing for Ogbene, Parrott's header somehow saved by the keeper....

Disappointing, need to get better on the ball in midfield, there are teams who will always outplay us but that Czech side were very poor and could have been played through with better passing and some patience, that and improved hold up play and that game would be won. Great effort from them so can’t fault that.

We have statistics for success rate for who goes first or second, but I'd like to see statistics about success rate when you do a little dance in the run up.

I'm sure theyll show it again in the summary. Czech fella made the most of it alright but the linesman saw him being checked by the defender not challenging for the ball.

Not to say its a FK mind you, but be damned if we're gonna let Shay Given claim its the biggest injustice in football history. Especially when you've a decent opportunity to defend from it.

Bitterly disappointed - but that’s because we did more than enough to win it and essentially threw it away.

The fact we went away in a tie like this and come away disappointed is a massive leap forward from where we had been a couple of years ago. We were on our knees and it’s great to be back competing.

Unfortunately you never get as many chances at this stuff as you think, so it hurts.

The Azaz penalty was the disappointing one for me. Coming from one of our more technical players, it was a very poor pen. We needed to put that one away to capitalise on Kellehers save.

They gave everything , thats all you can ask, its a limited squad quality wise , so I dont think they would have beaten Denmark. But they have put pride back in the jersey, giving 100% , so well done Heimir.

We were comfortably better team for first half but for their silly goal. After they equalised there was little between the teams. We prob had the better missed chances hitting post twice.

I think keeping up energy of first half plus then having to throw the sink at it played a role. And it’s not easy for teams with one goal lead to stop dropping deeper. Czechs only looked good when behind , so the pressure of the game affected both teams.

I’d be optimistic with the teams progress, dont worry about the clowns turning on individual players

I really hope this thread doesn't turn into a misery filled whinge-fest here now.

This campaign was amazing. Far better than anything we've gotten to experience for years, and I'm hugely proud of tonight's performance again. There's no point complaining about how the momentum shifted in the second half — that's just literally how football works. If you're in the second half away from home with a lead, you're just not going to be able to play the way you did in the first half. That's just how it is. The pressure will come on, and you end up falling back. No shame in it. We still cut through well at times, and of course hit the post as well.

We got into the lead thanks to two huge unnecessary errors on their side, and we got into a bit of trouble thanks to errors on our side. Mistakes are a part of football. Don't get too upset about it. But it's everything else around that I'm really proud of. We played proper football at times, looked mature, and looked an actual real football team. You could see the future there.

This campaign's done now, but it's left us with a better sense of who we are and what we can do. Roll on the Nations League!

Camped on our own 18 yard line for 45 mins solid. Let’s be honest, Czechs are shite and we showed no balls to play in second half

What is the point of the game on Tuesday now vs north Macedonia?

    I’m absolutely gutted.

Sadly we’re Tailteann Cup level. We don’t have the players, and will struggle to qualify for the foreseeable.

When is the last time Ireland won a shootout, was it Italia 90?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭cgorzy

Yeah, that is where practice and learning how to watch the keeper should count

Cant help but feel that was thrown away. 2-0 up then a moment of madness.

Ahead in the penalties then give them a nice soft save to give them a boost again.
