The cost of Public charging

I wonder are any of the other ones the same. I mostly use ESB ecars ones when I need to, so no big deal as the price is the same, but there are a few ePower and Ionity ones I could use on the routes I would be most likely to need a public charger, so it'd be good to be sure rather than get a surprise.

No you don't need a subscription for that price but subscriptions are available if you want to further bring the price down

Ionity rates per kWh with electroverse could change in the future but currently they are 66c without a subscription and 37% off (ie 41.6c) with a €12 monthly subscription

I'm guessing you used your credit/debit card at the payment terminal to get that rate? It's 77c/kWh on the Ionity app. As mentioned you don't need to sign up for a subscription to get the 66c rate

If you mostly use ESB ecars high powered chargers (the ones that cost 66c/kWh) you can get the same 66c rate with electroverse or your credit/debit card where available but crucially you don't need to top up a secondary account. Some might find having to keep the ecars account in credit the whole time a pain in the hole.

Electroverse have ePower and Ionity rates cheaper as well

Cool, yeah I used the QR code at the CP.

Even though I have the Ionity app I couldn't get the unit to start charging.

I seem to remember having some faff with Ionity not starting properly on Electroverse with the card, but working on the app - but it was the first time I'd ever used Ionity and indeed the first time I'd ever used a CCS charger. Previous EV was Chademo.

Electroverse card ordered anyway - good tip, cheers.

Kill southbound by any chance? I had issues with the Ionity app there, hence how I first discovered electroverse and 5 minutes later I was charging for 5c/kWh less than the ionity rate old ionity rate at the time was 71c, same speeds reached so a total win-win

Haven't tried the card yet but I will next time and report back to you if I can find this thread again

Is your EZO account PAYG or wallet (credit)? Reason I ask is that mine is wallet and I wanted to move to PAYG when EasyGO rebranded. I emailed EZO to ask back in Sept 2025 and they told me that moving to PAYG would incur a €1.70 fee for every charge, whereas the fee for wallet users was €0.27.

Needless to say I didn't move to PAYG. If that has changed to a €1.70 charge for wallet users, then that's very sneaky.

    Hi,
The access fee is higher for PAYG customers due to the cost associated with initiating a payment transaction for each session.
It is less for Prepay customers as they do not need to initiate a transaction for each session they start.

The only difference in pricing between PAYG and Prepay/Wallet is the access fee for each session.
The access fee for PAYG is €1.70 whereas with Prepay/Wallet it is €0.27.
If you were to switch to PAYG, your Prepay wallet balance would be refunded back to your card.

Ah that's it. I'm a wallet user but I've been signed out so when I signed into the app it showed as 27c

Interesting that EZO have to apply such a charge when circle k don't on their faster and cheaper chargers, isn't it?

At a guess, Circle K have many millions of transactions by card a year and probably have the bargaining power to negotiate lower transaction percentage/fees with their payment processors.

Unfortunately the trips I now occasionally take, that require a charge, end up finishing right next to EZO unit - though only ever 50kW. Annoying to have to pay the top up game each time. I know Electroverse and others can bill direct, but they tend to be a few cent more per unit.
Ironically I put €20 into the ecars app two years back, and have never had the need to plug into one of their chargers. Either they were not close to me, too slow or not functioning…..
