Confirmed he'll leave as a free agent. I think that's the right thing too given all he has contributed and at 34 his market value is minimal

Thanks for the memories Mo. Been watching Pool for over 40 years, and has been one of the very best players I've seen play for us.

Let's leave it for today and not worry about fees, contracts or where he's going, that will sort itself out in time. He'll find a place to play if he wants that,be it in Europe,America or Asia/Middle East, with a proper coach who wants to build an attack around him he'd still do a job in Europe even.

That's for another day though, for now 'Veni, vidi, vici'

It is going to be one hell of a highlights reel 🙂

Start of the drop off now. It was a good cycle to be fair.

Unlikely to see a Liverpool player break his scoring record this century, an absolute legend and an amazing ambassador for the club. Sad that his time has come but he has brought so much joy on so many occasions to all of our fans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,191 ✭✭✭dogbert27

The club have been clever with the timing of this release.

This will now stop all talk of Slot and how poor we are for the rest of the international break.

All focus will be on remembering Mo

Have to sign Diomande or someone like that now.

It's the one position we have zero backup for. Our closest option seems to be our right back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,538 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

The formation for next season needs to be decided first. Are we going to move to two up top or are we staying with 3? If it's two then we need one CF if not and it's three then we'll need to buy two wide men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,375 ✭✭✭brevity

Olise is the target I believe. Probably need Diomande too.

Last I read was the Olise pursuit was being dropped as deemed not likely.

I would love us to go back to nobody knowing who we are going to sign and then announce players like Fabinho!

I think the manager for next season needs to be decided before that!

Like Salah, I think Slots future is probably decided. It won't be announced of course. Lame duck manager equals downed tools.

Since he joined Liverpool, Salah has scored or assisted 35% of every single Liverpool goal in that time.

    Incredible.

    Absolute legend.

I want to go back to only finding out we've signed someone via the newspaper during the summer

Or something like Milan Baros where we bought him a year early and he played another season with Banik Ostrava (I think?) and there was literally no way to actually see him play or find out how he was getting on.

That's the most recent example I can think of because YouTube was pretty soon after that I think and changed everything

Imagine now having signed a senior player, a highly rated striker who is an international for a half decent country playing week in week out in a European league but never seeing him play. Not sure I had even seen a photo of the guy

That really is an insane stat. And we scored a lot of goals in some of seasons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,191 ✭✭✭dogbert27

That's like the lament for the good ol days of getting absolutely smashed on a night out and there was no such thing as a smartphone to record all your stupidity 😂

Paul Joyce says he's leaving on a free transfer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,184 ✭✭✭✭banie01

All eras come to an end, all things reach their crescendo...
We were so lucky to have him, he has been an incredible servant to our club.

His consistency, creativity, goal scoring and sheer exuberance when in full flow have been a joy to behold.
I am so happy that we got to enjoy him for as long as we have.

The club letting him go on a free is a good call, it gives him the opportunity to maximise a signing fee and gain a 2 or 3 yr contract in the process.

I firmly believe that wherever he goes next, they will sign a player who will enjoy a Ronaldo like renaissance.
Playing as an inside forward in a team that will be set up to take advantage of his supreme talent even if he has lost a half a yard of pace.
He will deliver wherever he goes and as he said himself, he knows he'll never walk alone.

If he really doesn't have a club lined up, that means we've a very motivated player on our hands for the run in, which can't hurt. Long as we keep him firmly positioned in dangerous areas, could well see him being the difference in getting a CL spot.

Sad to see him go, the end of an era, and an absolute god of a forward. One of the absolute greats for us.

Curveball here, but is he properly injured and we might not see him play again for a 6/8+ weeks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,142 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Maybe… though in his briefing yesterday Slot sounded like he expected him back not long after the break. I'd say he won't play the Man City game, but could be involved against PSG.

This. A thousand times. Been supporting 40+ years also and never thought I'd see anything more exciting than Barnes & Beardsley, but the Mane-Bobby-Mo triumvirate is for me tied with Neymar-Messi-Suarez as the best front 3 in history. The tag of legends gets bandied about far too loosely these days almost to the point of lessening it; Mo is a giant. In the pantheon of elite players. Or a top top top player as the morons would say these days. Forgive the text dump that follows, and a lot of these stats are in need or updating since they were from Sept 2025 but I doubt we'll see another like him. I hope we do.

Mohamed Salah has scored 248 goals and made 115 assists in 407 appearances for Liverpool.

    * Salah has 325 club goals in 659 matches.

    * Add 164 assists at club level as well.

    * Only TWO players have scored more goals for Liverpool after scoring v Manchester City in February (Ian Rush, Roger Hunt).

    * He is the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history with 188 goals.

    * Salah is now fourth in the Premier League all-time scorers list, overtaking Sergio Aguero in April. Only Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Alan Shearer (260) have more.

    * Salah has scored more goals at Anfield than Wayne Rooney managed at Old Trafford. Only Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry have more at a single stadium.

    * With two goals and an assist in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle last December, Salah both scored and assisted in a Premier League game 37 times, breaking Wayne Rooney’s all-time record. He has done it another five times since then, most recently against Manchester City on February 23.

    * After scoring against City, Salah became the first player to score or assist 40 or more goals in two different Premier League seasons.

    * The first player older than 27 to score or assist 40 or more goals in a single Premier League season.

    * The first player in Premier League history to notch more than 40 goal involvements in two different seasons, having also achieved it in 2017/18.

    * The first player to score 25 goals and register 15 assists in a single Premier League season.

    * Against Atletico Madrid on matchday one of the 2025/26 Champions League, Salah became the only player in Champions League history to both score and assist inside the opening six minutes of a match for an English club.

    * Salah scored the fastest hat-trick in Champions League history, which was also the fastest Champions League hat-trick by a substitute (6 minutes and 12 seconds v Rangers, 2022).

    * This ties the record for the most goal involvements in a Premier League season.

"Salah has scored 30+ goals in five of his six seasons at Liverpool"

    9 seasons, not 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

The right time to go, tis a bit of a fcuk up from the club to have paid him massive wages for the last year only for him to go on a free anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,854 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Not a time to talk about this season or his new contract.

Unreal player. Synonymous with every positive of the last decade.

One of the club's best ever.

Wish him well wherever he goes and genuinely curious to see where he lands.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,309 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I dunno, I think everyone wanted him to stay. I don't think there were too many on this thread wanting the club to refuse a new deal. It was a gamble.

I like the fact the club took the gamble, even though it hasn't worked out. I hate the idea that has become so prevalent in modern football where a player's quality is measured on a spreadsheet rather than watching them on the field, and by extension the same spreadsheet is used to make decisions about that player. It removes all the emotion and feel from the game, it's very American.

If Salah had left last year and went to a lesser league and was tearing it up, while we're here wallowing in mediocrity there would have been uproar about what a huge mistake it was to let him go.

Fair points but more wondering why we are letting him go on a free now. Like even getting 15 million would be something
