As we discussed in the thread, it's not fair to give advice on the scenarios that people got (there’s multiple possibilities anyway to limit cheating).

All I would say is just brush up on email communication, especially if you have no office/admin/experience drafting and sending in your line of work. Use formal language, watch spelling, and grammar.

And really that's all you can do in advance because the second part of the question is what you would do after dealing with the first part of the situation, really you will know what to say here after completing part A, you can link possible answers from the situation judgment, e.g., inform CO they are giving the wrong information and provide with correct information and things to read to get them up to speed (this is one of the possible answers for the practice test on the situation judgment).

Really watch the time with this question because if you don't really have manager experience or experience typing emails quickly or emails at all it is a little difficult to get it done in the time.

All, don’t forget to login to Public Jobs under application and confirm you’ve completed the assessments. An email was sent a few days ago about this but a lot doing the tests in the last few days

Well this sucks, think I failed, I read on the familiarisation that

"There is a word count indicator below the text box. You must write, in total,

    at least 200 words

     and

    no more than 600 words

. Responses of less than 200 words will not be assessed, and you will be deemed withdrawn from the competition."

BUT, there another line that says minimum 100 words per task, bit confusing as above it makes it sound clearly like 200 total will do. wondering if I can appeal based off this, think im short on task 2 by 20 or so words, I kept it concise and summarised on purpose for task 2 since I have 1 lots of room 250ish words, I could have waffled my ass off if had have known.

Could I appeal? the wording clearly say 200 words required in one part of the document.

OOM 2 here and interviewed last April! I'm raging to be doing the whole thing again and definitely don't feel I did as well in these tests as I did in the 2024 comp! Best of luck everyone and may the odds be forever in your favour!

Similar happened a colleague in the 2024 comp. He completed the first part of the task but didn't write anything for the second part. IIRC he later got an email basically saying as he hadn't completed the second part he wouldn't be progressing any further in the competition.

2!! Really bugs me when they advertise these comps they don't give expected figures for Counties.

    HHi

I forgot to go back into publicjobs.ie again to click on completed until yesterday evening does anyone know if this will affect application??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭ellejay

OOh I was sure it was 3 yesterday..23rd? Great thanks so much 😆

I completed the tests last night thankfully.

I found the room scan wouldn't start if I'd glasses on, I just put them on during the test.

    The comprehension was unreal.

I thought the questions came accross as trick questions,

The questions were missing words, brackets, grammatically weird and used a lot converse of the converse.

One answer I just had to select "cannot say" as the question was unreadable never mind understandable.

    - hmmm as I type maybe that was the point of it?!!

    The email test was fine.

On mine there was big red writing telling you there has to be 200 words minimum in the box, 600 max.

The copy paste function didn't work, had to use keyboard keys.

The situational judgement started out fine but got tougher as the test went on.

I thought that was tough because the text said one thing but your cop-on radar said another.

    The Maths - 50/50

I might have gotten the 9 but I honestly don't know.

For the last 2 minutes I guessed the answers to try and get some in.

Some of the questions had a lot of wording, which took time to read and understand.

So of course the parts I skimmed were the parts I needed for the answer.

That little clock is going down all the time, it's very pressured.

I suppose at least I'll know what to expect for the next competition!!

If anyone still has to do the Maths, brush up on your percentages, that's my top tip.

Eg if the 10 jumpers took up 32% in the wardrobe how many jeans were in there (reading data from a graph.)

They also said the email section isn't taken into consideration until further along the process.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Are you saying you were under 100 words for one of your tasks but over 100 for another? I don't think you would have grounds for appeal because the assessments say that you must review the familiarisation material before you take the tests, so it's laid out clearly there.

Thanks for this. I didn't realise it needed to be done at all.

Impossible to tell expected figures, can only.go off recent hires and that general info is available and disclosed in the 2024 information booklet so applicants can see recent trends. As in, apply for a neighbouring county if the "chances" are higher and a commute is possible / viable.

In most counties outside of Dublin and than Cork you need a very high OOM to have a chance. And even the difference between 10-19 is 10 places so even that is wide open and an unknown the exact figure.

100% agree, there is no harm in people asking questions. I dont think managing people might suit some

    😉

I’m the same, not sure I hit it as textbox didn’t have a word counter for each part (just altogether). Mostly doing this comp for experience - would be pleasantly surprised if I got an OOM under 800.

Sounds like a solid grounds for appeal. That wording was unclear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Glitteringstar

I’m sorry but what’s hard to understand here? Clearly states 100 words minimum for each task, which totals to 200 words?
Have not written 100 words for one section? If you’ve written the minimum of 100 per task nothing to worry about.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but your response to that person came across as a little strong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭DarkKnight

Hi All, hope you all did well on the assessments and best of luck with the rest of the campaign. I'm confident I just went over 100 words per response, however if I didn't, does anyone know if you'll find out shortly after the deadline or will you need to wait until the results come out. I saw a post up recently about this.

Give PAS a quick email with all concerns, they are extremely helpful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Glitteringstar

Excuse me? The original post dosent make it clear that the issue is.. 100 words minimum per task equals 200 words.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 entryasco

I was the same. Didn't realise until I read it here. Thanks for highlighting it. Much appreciated
