I try to take a bit of a collective view of reviews before I go for a purchase. IGN sometimes aren't great, but other publications are not perfect either. The Eurogamer review of Lies of P really sticks in my mind for a review I wouldn't at all agree with (gave it 3/5). But this person wasn't wrong, it was just their own view based on their experience with the game (Eurogamer are normally quite good with the reviews).

Wish there was a demo of CD that I could give it a go for a few hours. I imagine I would probably like it, but I am weary of the comparisons with the Witcher 3 and RDR2.

Find reviewers you like with tastes that align with you. There's reviewers out there I respect that I know gamed they like I wouldn't Mike Williams for instance loves the Ubisoft/Sony open world games but I still like hearing his opinion. The same way I'd trust someone like Jeremy Parish's views on games as our interests align more.

The number at the end of a review is also not what you should be going off. Read the review and figure out if the issues the reviewer had are things you can put up with or will be patched out.

    Bottom paragraph x 100

I’m not sure why gamers dismiss scores of 6-8 as crap. Films don’t have the same standards. Read the actual review and see what they find a problem. I got burned a few times (Red Dead Redemption 2 cough) with nearly perfect scores but a lot of the problems I had with the game were actually mentioned in the reviews, they just still gave the game 10/10 cause of the immense hype the game had

Ign final review for this game is a 6

The same reviewer gave Concord and Highguard a 7

I like IGN and use it a lot but that's comical stuff .

Tbh, I have kinda gone off looking at game review sites I tend to rely more on steam reviews as I find it more reliable. It's rated at 80% now which reading the thread seems more right than say the 6 from IGN. I haven't bought this yet but I am considering it based on people's opinions here and Reddit.

Neither of which were bad games, just failed to find and audience so 7/10 seems right.

If you want to give out about IGN at least point out their true crimes against videogames:

And they just anounced they sold three million copies. Which is about a 6 out of 10 on the IGN finding the right audience scale or something.

What ever about the reviews I'm enjoying my time with Crimson Desert and I'm only still in the starting area. Well worth a play if you like this genre.

Some nonsense . Both games were shut down . Of course they were bad !

The only nonsense is from you. When is success a factor in how good a game is? If so Rise of the Robots and Driv3r would be two of the best games ever made. I've played way too many amazing games that everyone ignored to know that sales success is rarely a barometer of quality. Some of the best games ever made sold very poorly.... And thankfully for me are making me a lot of money now that I'm selling them. Turns out having amazing taste in games worked out in the end.

Can't wait to see Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum go for stupid money in the future so! :P

Tbh one of the major criticisms of this is the story/characters, but I kind of like cliff (good guy trying to help) and (at least the start) pacing of the story, works well with the scope and freedom of the world

The patch has fixed a lot random stuff that they didn't even mention . Some good quality of life stuff .

You are so far up your own backside I'm surprised you see daylight . Why are you on this thread anyways ? Are you playing the game ?

It's not a perfect game by any means but I'm loving the game personally, I love the exploration, the world is very enticing to explore and when you find one secret it makes you wanna explore more and I love that in an open world game.

Yeah, over 20 hours in and still finding new stuff. Plus all the stuff the snarky witch keeps telling me I'm too early for. There's always something down the road. And I haven't experienced anything major or huge yet. Standard walking tree be about the biggest. Didn't have to fight him, just get on his head.

Finally fought the reed devil about 25 hours in . Destroyed him . Maybe I'm over powered or it's the nerf on him or a bit of both . I actually dodged the whole build up to the fight 😂It was still an epic boss fight . Went back to the quarry and destroyed that boss too. A good evenings work .

Fought some crimson cloud boss thing and beat him first go but god he was an annoying sob

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭brady12

Where you encounter him or what chapter was it .

Waiting for a discount to play this game, lol. Asians always make their games a bit pricey.

Part of some side quest for a lord in chapter 2/3 I think, clear out a big camp of bleed bandits and this thing was the boss that had to be killed

That Quarry boss is an asshole, I couldnt get his pattern down at all, so in the end I found the recipe for palmer pills which revives you with 30% of health and the bosses health doesnt reset, went into the fight with about 20 of them and a load of healing items and got his health down eventually.

If you're anything like me, youre constantly forgetting to use the Force Palm (love that its a leaf) during fights. With the 2nd and 3rd hit, its kinda OP for reducing armor.

Travelling a bit further now, still more or less in Hernand. Might venture up to Pailune next for a gawk. Think it wants me to go that way.

Also, the start of Chapter 5 seems to be the consensus to get to in order to unlock further skills and progress it enough to give you the majority of early mechanics. There's so much in this game! Also, not confirmed, but i think progressing the main story potentially ends quests you may not have picked up yet, ergo missing some optional boss fights.

How ye getting on with armor and weapons? I'm still using the (upgraded) Wolf sword and rocking the Day 1 DLC armor, but haven't found much new (worth using) weapons or armor.

Why has nobody mentioned the side quest to raise an army of cats?

I mean that's game of the year **** right there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,956 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Correction, army of armored cats, some of which are called loaf cats!

Another hefty update, v 1.01.00 out today. Massive list of fixes, improvements, additions, etc. Christ, I think PA is setting a new standard for updates. Even if you don't like the game, you've got to give it to them for the effort to fix and improve. Most crowds would have weeks or even months before an update (RotSP was 3 months to add a performance mode).

Most spoilers are nested so shouldn't ruin anything, but some things are named.

Yeah that's another impressive update for a single player game. Tbh I can't wait to sit down and play a bit more once I get a bit of free time. Definitely a game you can put down and pick up which is great.
