Voluntary redundancies eh. That’s a good one!!! I’d love it.

There’s no depot I know of short drivers to cover existing work. My depot is swimming in them. The new CEO is a numbers lady and im told, quite reliably, everything is being looked at regarding recruitment and the only reason the latest campaign went ahead was because it was publicly advertised. I don’t know how true it is, but I trust the source implicitly.

We need drivers on the Dart, thats even with the 12 trainees currently in the class.

I interact with 5 other depots. I don’t think my info is wrong either but time will tell.

there’s a diesel and dart class starting in the next couple of months. Might be a pause after those?

The info I have is the latest campaign could be subject to a recruitment pause. The CEO apparently has placed a pause on recruitment as I previously stated but what I said may not be understood by other readers here. The only reason the latest recruitment for drivers went ahead is because it had been publicly advertised before this decision was taken. I do hope I’m wrong for the sake of those who are applying now. As I said time will tell. If I am correct it will be a decision that will come back and bite them in the ass. Drivers don’t appear out of thin air and the company needs a constant stream of them to deal with retirements, sickness etc

Recieved my feedback from OCP last week saying my application would now be handled by Irish Rail and I’ve just received this today. Anyone else get the same?

Just an update, got email. Invited to next stage, wait out for further info in due course

May-July what I heard last week.

They start ringing people a month out to offer a spot

Yeah I hope so too. DART is short staffed, my class is replacing people retiring and the like. Not adding to the shortage of drivers.
desperately need a couple more classes so it’s not running on OT

What stage are you at again? Are you out doing your hours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Made a few enquiries today, and it seems you are right. Only a few more classes starting, and panels filled with later applicants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 james87c

have everything completed 5 weeks tomorrow do you reckon I could be called or left on panel for the foreseeable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭Rootsblower

It gives me no joy to post what I have posted re:recruitment pause coming, but my source is impeccable. I think people here who are going to put a lot of their free time into practice tests and the like and also take time off work to attend tests deserve to know what’s coming. I feel for anyone who applies in the latest campaign as they may be left hanging a long time on a panel.

Without any evidence to support this statement I would say if you’re hoping to pick up a spot in a diesel driving class and you haven’t done at least a line manager interview I’d say your snookered. As I previously posted I interact with 5 different depots and they are all swimming in drivers. I have no clue about DART driving numbers.

I’ll also say that this could be an expensive mistake for the company. One bad monthin 2016 and my depot lost 3 drivers for various reasons. It took 5 years to replace them.

not yet, starting hours in 6 weeks. On units currently (split into two groups while the other does cab rides then switch), then training train split into two groups as mentioned. The diesel class that started a week after us is already doing their hours :/

Mighty grateful for the heads up lads🙏

DART is certainly struggling currently but there are some management union games being played

The delays to the DART+ fleet and project mean the short term needs have reduced, still will be a need for significant recruitment once we get towards the end of building DART+ West but that’s some years out

I think it's a terrible decision. A similar situation happened to our depot in 2020, and it really put a squeeze on the roster. #

Demanding an increase in services, opening new lines, changing rolling stock i'd imagine now is the time to prepare, and that's without drivers changing roles, retirements and long-term absenteeism. This is well above my pay grade, but it's easy to see the results to us on the ground.

Yes, I got the same email yesterday and sorry for the late response etc. I got as far as the line manager interview in the last campaign last year and contacted HR and was told I will move straight to the interview stages again. But means nothing if they put a pause on recruitment as previous posters have said! Would the unions not be in uproar if this was the case? @Rootsblower @Citizen Six

A pause on recruitment just means current applicants will be placed on a panel. So it'll just take longer.

The unions represent the workers. Lack of newer drivers just strengthens drivers position when trying to negotiate better conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Unusual for it to work out that way. I guess the class of 12 is making it take longer overall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

So you've passed all stages, and just waiting for a call for a class start date? Yeah, you could be waiting longer than usual on the panel now it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,309 ✭✭✭benny79

I was talking to my mate who's a trainer they still need 300 drivers as there is huge investment going into the network so they have to start planning. The new CEO is clamping down on things but its mainly company vans and the like. Who knows @Citizen Six

Hi lads i applied for the position as a craftworker, I have passed the interview on the 19th of feb, the medical and I have done the SCAAT test ( which was 3 weeks ago ) and I haven't heard anything since so i dont know if i passed or failed that test. Is this normal and is this pause on recruitment across the bored or is it just for drivers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭Jamemid

How many people are on panels from previous recruitments? There a good few on here ,especially for regional classes that are waiting up to a year. You'd imagine there's enough to fill a few future classes without wasting resources on medicals and more testing and interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 james87c

ya all stages done. Just a waiting game so. 😆 hopefully the massive energy crisis that’s on the horizon doesn’t slow things down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭Rootsblower

@benny79 theres a lot more than company vans being looked at. The trade unions would only be concerned about their members not potential new recruits, besides they can’t make IR employ anyone if they don’t want to. That person who told you that the company needs 300 drivers neglected to tell you that’s probably over a 5-10 year period unless they plan to sack half of the driving grade soon!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,309 ✭✭✭benny79

Considering the training centre can only take 12 at a time over a 6 month period and how slow the recruitment process is Im sure it will be over 5-10 years period but my point was mainly that there will be a constant need for drivers.

Does anyone know it the recruitment pause is a cross the bored or is it only for drivers? as I have applied for the craftworker position.
