Very few in the section I was in the stand (possiby about half a dozen) and milling around the pitch afterwards I didn't see much more. Smallest number for an away I can remember.

What’s the craic with referees? Seems like a number of u16 games last weekend were pulled due to a shortage of refs.

Kieran Olwell from Meath in for the Munchies Belturbet game Saturday.

Surely the county board would’ve known the number of refs we have before putting the fixtures down?

Heard that and looking at next weekend there are over 40 games starting from 11 to around 1pm. A lot of girls games which the same referees do included.

U14 games weekend before pulled due to no referees.

Credit to the lads yesterday. Very decent performance and a lot of positives. First half changed when we missed a few goal chances and they stretched clear with a few points around the 19th minute mark. We need to be more clinical. The old guard of Holla, G, Jason and Dara were immence. Was impressed with the defence. Main concern is the chances coming down the right corner back spot. Seems to be an overload on that side.

In the second half, we got cleaned in the kickouts. Not sure what more the keeper could do. Derry seemed more proactive in swarming G. We need to mix it up, even if that involves flinging it to the wing or short. A lot of positives moving forward.

People on here tend to be over negative. Sure we have some bad showings but the flip side of it is that we should have turned over Meath and Cork and they are the fine margins. And above all else we have preserved our status. A sense of perspective is needed. This manager mightnt be everyones cup but lets row in behind cause sure as hell every Farney naysayer will be behind their cause.

Main areas to work on before Monaghan

    • Stop there short kickouts (stop there counter attacks at source)
    • Have plan B for out kickout
    • Converting chances esp goals
    • Get Paddy Lynch into form. We need him motoring

One thing I did like yesterday was the way we held the ball. We were quite strategic in the way we recycled the ball.

Lets be optimistic. Take Monaghan and another rattle at Derry.

I’d agreed, only a handful of Cavan supports from what I seen! The word on the street is people are tiered of the way mc cabe has ran the show and struggle to get out and back him.
anyone not mentioned previously worth potentially brining in for championship or later in the all ireland series?

We got 4 point, we got 2 by pure fluke. 19 times out of 20 you go down on 4. I think we need to stop with moral victories, Derry bet us easily.

Are we likely to see county players in the first round of the All County Leagues this weekend?

The county lads would surely benefit from a reprieve from the intense nature of the intercounty league campaign that was and a few certainly could do with finding some form with their club sides.

Plenty of big men on this under 20 team. Something badly needed at senior level. Winning plenty of ball around the middle.

    Your future Cavan midfield there.

That's a great win tonight, any win over Tyrone really. Made tough work of it at times, but lots of big men out there and while nerves set in, ruled that middle third for a fair bit of the game. Great stuff

Great to get one over on Tyrone.

Was debating whether to go to the game tonight or not, wet cold evening for football but delighted I did and good Cavan contingent in at it, great win and definitely made hard work of it at times, wasn't helped by an Armagh ref who didn't give us much- gave them some soft frees at times and us nothing- they got a 2 pointer free in first half that was never an over carry and we had a infraction that turned a good free chance for us into a tap over for them. Thought our goalie was excellent and we had clear strategy for our and their kickouts, Dugdale and Clarke put in a great shift there even if they tired a bit late on. Jensen Tynan was brilliant at full back as was Conor Doyle, Shackleton and Tully in half backs and then forwards- Dylan Edwards kicked some great scores, Jack Dobson done very well and arguably we should of kicked long into him more, Nathan Quigley done very well when he came on, I would of had him starting- Joshua Shehu shows well and has pace to burn but ball handling and running down blind alleys a bit seems to hinder him. Could be forgetting one or two players there. Still great to get over that voodoo with Tyrone, we made them look very ordinary and we physically out matched them

Paddy Shaennon is like a tonic - I Love listening to him.
Hats off to everyone tonight, these are the nights that make you proud to be a Cavan man.
Brave, bold and ready to kill the script.

Fantastic result in light of the opposition and their standing as reigning champions. Well done all.

Well done to u20s, looked like a really strong performance and brilliant to beat Tyrone. Was listening to one of players being interviewed on WAC and was very impressed with him, he recognised it was one game and was already focused on Armagh.

Hammered out the gate tonight by 20 plus points, some comedown from last week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

My goodness, that was awful stuff. As bad as i've seen for a while. If our plan was to give an array of Armagh forwards with strong boots on them time and space to kick 2 pointers with the wind, that was a tactical masterclass. Game was over before half time. Work rate in closing shooters down was non-existant. At this age group not surprisingly when one team has a bad day, heads drop and a trimming ensues.

Words actually fail me about Cavan football.. has to be TWE in underage football terms .. A few tankings of Donegal and the minor loss to Fermanagh other honourable mentions in recent time.

How are we assessing that Cavan team now? We should beat Down but another tanking will likely await ..
