But to be fair to Atwell he only gets to see the incident live, once. Refs can make mistakes, that I can take. But the VAR has to be held to a higher standard for obvious reasons. To continuously make a bo11ox of it means something must change. Be that personnel or whatever, because a blind man can see it is broken.

And I'm not sure I'm comfortable with referees being put in front of the media to be honest. You can see some would absolutely LOVE it. Their ego would be massaged and some have huge egos. I don't think it would attract the best referees to the game but would attract a lot of attention seeking clowns.

Has the audio been released for the VAR the other night or will that not be till about a months time when everyone has moved on?

If the attention seekers are making better calls I don't really care to be honest

Put the Ref and the VAR team out there, they are a package. Let them explain any decision that media would like to ask.
These "internal" reviews or whatever they do obviously don't do much as it's the same craic each week

If Atwell and the VAR team know they will have to sit in front of a camera at the end of the game and explain that they "thought it would be harsh to give another penalty against Bournemouth and take away the goal they had just scored" then they don't make that call IMO. Because that is outside the laws of the game and they know it.

And definitely, IF they don't give it and then the 2nd incident comes up they will know full well if they give that then it will be a massive media point at the end of the game and they will need to defend their position with logic and point to laws of the game.

    They won't be able.

Currently they can decide that it would be too "harsh" on Bournemouth to take the goal away + give a 2nd penalty in the game and NOBODY gets to question why.

They need to be held to a higher standard and that only happens if there is more visibility and less sweeping under the rug internally.

We need to stop protecting them so much. They should be able to explain decisions clearly if they are doing their jobs to the best of their ability, or at the very least give a good thought process that lead them to a decision.

The VAR audio could just be broadcast live, like they do in the rugby.

I only was thinking after Friday, Does anyone remember when var was first brought in, var checks would pan to the 3 refs i suppose in a room while the check was going on and you could see whats going on. Dont do that anymore.

Was thinking there is a small chance of it being on the Saturday at 12.30pm, 5.30pm or less likely 8.00pm as Sky Sports have done this in the past. Hopefully the announcement is made this week.

United coming to Ireland for a training camp April 6th to 9th. haven;t seen mention of where, just 30mins from Dublin.

Wonder why Ireland and not somewhere in Spain, for example. Weather will be no better, different, to Manchester, and surely the facilities over here would be worse than what they have at Carrington?

Just more focused cause it will (likely) be training and resting rather than heading home etc.

    Probably Carton House I'd imagine

Athletic article gave no specifics. Just said Ireland, 30mins from Dublin.

Sports Ireland Campus? I know it is in Dublin, but according to google maps it is 30mins drive from Temple Bar? Other than that is it likely the K Club?

It will be Carton House. Big teams have used it before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,548 ✭✭✭Miley Byrne

Doubtful, I'd say it is almost certainly Carton House. Didn't Real use it a few years ago too.

That was the one i couldn't think of. Yeah, you're probably bang on.

It being a short trip I wonder if this is them just scouting the place before making pre season plans. There is talks they'll play a game in Dublin. Maybe they'll open their pre season tour in Dublin and will train here for a bit and enjoy a bit of golf.

Really like Tonali the player, but would be a bit weary of him - given the betting issues, and then offering himself around the place immediately after signing a new contract with newcastle. a couple of red flags.

as a player though, superb. I'd prefer Anderson, but if we actually are 'prioritising' Tonali then I assume Anderson to City is basically a done deal.

MLS is a player I have thought for a while that we should be looking at for the summer - given his lack of game time at Arsenal this season. My concerns with him are (1) does he actually want to play LB? That is where he made a name for himself at Arsenal, but he was a midfielder in the youths. Maybe we want him as a midfield option tbf. (2) if he is being looked at for LB, assuming he is happy to play there, he is a very good carrier and good on the ball, but he isn't an overlapping threat. But he would still be learning the position, so maybe something that could be improved.

Arsenal will surely want an arm and a leg for such a young player whose got a handful of England senior caps, only signed a 5 year deal last summer, and is versatile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,304 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    maybe.
but also talk they need to sell an academy prospect for FFP reasons, so there might be a bit of pressure from that, and the player himself might push for it given the season he has had.

A few england caps, in a position he is third choice for at Arsenal. Don't get me wrong, the performances that got him that are why i would want him, but you surely can't put a massive price on a player you don't rate. Similar to us apparently looking for 40m for Mainoo when Amorim wasn't bothered with him.
