Yeah, it's every trip in the 2024+ cars. It can be silenced permanently with the COMMANDER module, as well as having some other handy features, like auto-pilot re-engage after lane change and light strip customisations. Worth every penny. I have the S3XY knob and I have to admit, I almost never use it anymore. Maybe when the warmer weather hits, i'll use for cooled seats like I did whe I first installed it. Oh…the S3XY Dash should be arriving soon.

Why would you lock the kids in the car, I just head away with my phone so they can’t drive and there’re still able to watch you tube etc until I’m back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

You don't use walk away lock? If I did that the alarm would go off and all the kids would be deaf for life. Camp mode doesn't lock the car, dog mode does.

My kids are too small to be left in the car by themselves and the wife doesn't like dog mode for some reason 🤣 so normally use camp mode

I use walk away lock all the time, I just walk away with my phone when they’re in it, it doesn’t lock them into it though I think, or maybe they don’t try and get out, the climate would still be on.
I must try the 7yr old in it by herself tomorrow just to see, I’d never leave her alone though one of her brothers would be there, maybe that’s it.

dog mode works best i find, do they not set the alarm off otherwise?

Tesla haven't been able to confirm if the failed seal is covered by warranty and in the meantime, i've watched water leak out of the tailgate after every rain shower. I wonder if this is the cause of the failed light bars I was reading about?

I rang them yesterday to confirm coverage and got through to the UK. The agent was not at all helpful. Couldn't tell me if warranty covered weather seals. Told me she would get the Dublin SC to contact me, but they didn't. I sent a message today letting them know I would be cancelling my appointment due to unknown cost and will have this sorted elsewhere, as I don't want more water leaking into the bootlid. I got a reply and the SC is blaming Paddies day and annual leave for their inability to confirm coverage.

Why is it so hard for them to answer a simple warranty question? It shouldn't take more than a few hours, but they've had since the ranger called out on Friday and told me the seal is not covered under warranty. Not good enough Tesla!

That is bizarre behaviour from a normally reputable after-sales service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

If seals aren't covered by warranty, it should be explicitly called out.

I had a couple of inner door seals replaced under warranty no questions asked on a 23 model y.

That was only due to creaky noises and nothing to do with water ingress!

Agree, just raise the Service request again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

it’s bonkers stuff really. Service request has gone in twice. My past experience has been good, except for a couple of crap experiences at the SC. They’re just barely responsive and I don’t want to drag it out any longer. I just want it fixed before it causes other issues, which could be brewing because water got into the tailgate.

I'd fear you're right here. That dodgy seal isn't going to lead to anything positive for you.

I was only thinking to myself the SC are really responsive to queries - except I suppose to those queries they don't like or don't know how to answer immediately.

and during delivery windows their responsiveness/attention is elsewhere

I have my 24 Model Y booked in for service next week for that DC charging failure I mentioned a few pages back.

I had intended to, but forgot, to include requesting to fixing the plastic wheel arch cover and the fog light blanking piece that have both been dislodged when a reversing truck tipped my parked car last year. Does anyone know if I go adding these two items to the service request now, will it automatically remove my existing appointment so they can review the additional request? I really don't want to delay the fixing of the broken DC charging. Maybe its better to wait until I've actually dropped the car in, then ask about them in the service chat? Or will they not even entertain that? maybe I shouldn't even be going to tesla to fix them? (there only seems to be a snapped clip on the arch trim, not sure about that plastic piece where the fog light would be)

I like a lot about the automated/app based tesla service system, but I sometimes wish I could just talk to someone when dropping it in instead of just abandoning the car in the car park like they want you to.

Add them to the ticket. It might be too short notice to get them sorted. No harm in trying

If you add them, it’s not a warranty thing and they’ll probably fleece you.

Better off going to a regular crash repairs place then?

looking at one of the model y performance models on tesla's site. I haven't test drove it yet but anyone here move from a 5 series Se model to the model y and how they found the ride performance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,507 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Which generation Model Y? Up to end 2024 or 2025+..?

The SE is very soft, so moving to anything modern is going to feel firm indeed. The MYP is a firm sporty ride, but with decent suspension that can be adjusted. Overall the MY is going to feel a lot tighter than the 5 series.

its a 2023 model…I'm humming and hawwing between buying the juniper AWD model but i'd prefer to let someone else take the depreciation hit. Plus this specific car somehow gets a remaining warranty to Aug 2027 and then another 1 year after that. I'm not seeing that on the other cars (there's a similiar priced LR AWD but only 1 year warranty but the MYP was a UK import so maybe they get a longer warranty or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,507 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

If it's a CPO car then they usually add a further 12 months to the warranty as a sales incentive. Costs them virtually nothing as these cars are bulletproof and they know it.

The pre-Juniper MYP was a very firm ride indeed. I was tracking a red one with white interior which has had several price cuts in the last month, it's probably the same car?

its a red one but its black interior. I still see that one there, its 30k now.. the one I'm looking at is 36k but only 43k km on the clock.

That's reassuring about the bulletproof. If ride performance is an issue there's always the car below but its mileage is higher at 83k km and only one year warranty.

Coming from a 3l bmw i'm quite familiar with steering rods, control arm issues on powerful cars so I was thinking on an even faster car the extra warranty isn't bad at all.

Quick question on getting some warranty bits fixed. I tried to log a service request in the app. But the last stage asks me to pick a service center. Dublin or Cork. I'm in Galway so neither are easy. Will they look to use the Ranger to come to me once they review the request?

Small jobs, the left door speaker keeps popping out, the glove box doesn't open and I want to ask about the water in the frunk seal.

I really don't feel like a full day trip to get any of those fixed but they should be fixed.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,873 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Just pick Dublin, when you finalise Tesla will open a chat with you and you can then say Ranger please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,507 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Those issues sound like ideal ranger jobs to be fair.

Tesla are properly píssing me off with this. Have an appointment next week, with a quote over €1k and they won't confirm if its covered under warranty until they inspect it. The ranger already inspected it and told me the seal failed because the adhesive came undone. I've managed to have the seal pulled back into position to stop the rain getting in, but want it fixed properly. Now i'm wondering if they'll use this as an excuse not to fix it. Not only that, but I can't keep taking time off work for them to inspect something they've already inspected, only to book me in a third time!

I'm not very confident about their diagnostic skills at the moment. In January, I went to the SC with the Model S about soft brakes. I was out test driving a P model when the technician called and told me my brake fluid was filthy and needed to be flushed. I asked if he checked it. He told me he tested it and it was brown "filthy". I told him that makes no sense, that they had done a brake fluid flush only a few weeks prior toward the end of the year and I would be back at the SC in a few minutes. When I got back, he said the brake fluid was changed before and that the bottle was dirty on the outside, so he thought the fluid was dirty 🤯.

The seal physically looks OK now, but its not 100% and will slip again i'm sure. I'm confident I could fix it myself tbh. Really not happy with the aftercare on this occasion. I told them what the ranger said about the seal just losing adhesion and the SC said that doesn't match the service notes and they'd need to inspect it. I offered to let a ranger look again, but i'm not wasting my time off work to let them inspect again, before deciding if its covered or not.

Maybe I can fix it myself and get them to pay me their ridiculous estimate!

The quote is always the full book price regardless if it's a warranty job or not. I had the same when a rear light cluster had water ingress. The actual price was updated to 0.00 during the service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

Yeah, I know. It wasn't like that a couple years ago, but it changed. The problem is they have already inspected it and can't tell me if its covered. They want me to go to the SC for a second inspection and that mens taking time off work and going out of my way. The ranger seen it. I've sent photos and video. If I bring it in, they will only inspect it and I'd have to schedule another appointment to have the work done. And because I've moved the seal outward myself to help prefent more water ingress, they might decide its been interfered with. I just want it sorted before it causes other issues.

Went for the test drive in the performance model (2023) and didn't get all the fuss about the suspension.

From my previous 2010 bmw f10 which is seriously getting on , the MYP was a major improvement on it… delighted with as was worried it would be too harsh on the missus.

Picking it up now either Mon/Tuesday all going well.

Had to throw 25 bucks into thar bmw on the way back up from cork…last time paying for fuel :)

It's firm rather than harsh. The whole car feels appropriately tight.

I found it an excellent ride. The Juniper might be slightly better but there's not much in it.
