I was just talking with my now 91 yr old mother.

About 20 years ago my sister, who had a decent inter county career, met Michael at a function and mentioned her mother was a big fan.

He asked for my mother's number and left and very kind text message thanking her for her support.

I met him on a plane to Manchester years ago. He was sitting beside me and was to commentate on a United game when RTE had Premier League coverage. I was going to the game as a supporter. A sound fella who also was a fan of United.

Couple of years behind me in secondary school. I'm very saddened to hear this news, it really brings home that life is so short. Be good to one another

I remember he used to write the music and entertainment section of the paper together with Tom Gilmore. Here he is in the Herald office as a teenager with Tom, and with the late Jim Fahy who would also make his way to RTE.

Bit of a shock when seen he died although he was unwell a number of years ago. You'd often see him on one of those light entertainment shows like Ireland am or the like in recent times.

RIP Michael Lester! A gentleman and GAA iconic presenter on The Sunday Game whether it was the matches or the highlights. When very little live games outside AI semi finals/finals in early 1990s would look forward to Sunday nights to watch TSG. He was up there with Micheal O'Muircheartaigh when it came to his professionalism towards GAA coverage with RTE.

Was probably 30-35 years ago but Michael Lyster once compered a show - could have been a fund raising talent show - in the community hall in Rathkeale. Everyone was singing his praises afterwards (no pun intended) saying how brilliant and funny he was and so easy to deal with. He may have been a late sub for some higher profile RTE celeb at the time but the organisers said they were delighted they got him as he was perfect for the occasion.
