So you're saying ICE vehicles which have had undue privilege of 99% of convenient parking spaces for last 100yrs or so should have them moved to the least convenient.

In Norway they allowed EVs to use bus lanes. You'd be ok with that because well ICE have had 100% of all roads until recently. So that's undue privilege also.

On what charge would they have them in court? Are you saying businesses can’t decide their own pricing? You are basically saying join the cartel or be sued.

I am not suggesting anything remotely like that. I’m pointing out that EV chargers have been installed close to ingress/egress points around most infrastructure.

In my country; Canada, I haven’t witnessed privileges granted to EVs in bus lanes, but cars carrying three people are granted transit status.

As far as automotive history goes, if a hundred percent of vehicles were ICE for most of it, then the notion of privilege explodes in a thousand tiny pieces. But don’t worry, unlike an EV fire, that one wouldn’t take an eternity to put out.

EV charge points are never in convenient parking spaces. They are always fairly out of the way in car parks.

Best place for them too, if they're in the prime areas they'll be occupied by ICE cars.

Canada has around 50 EV fires a year. It has 10,000 ICE fires a year. Gonna take a lot longer to put those out.

100% of vehicles are not ICE which is why you've now cycle lanes in Canada.

Not very well informed about Canada never mind Ireland.

Have to have some serious ICE privilege issues to complain about at best 5% of car parking spots given to EVs in a car park.

That has to be one of the weirdest chip on a shoulders about EVs I've ever heard.

If you'll not be public charging much. Then the cost of it is irrelevant to you. I last public charged a year ago.

I generally pick the most convenient charger rather than the cheapest one. Often the most expensive ones have no queue on them and better longer cables and arms to carry the cable.

If I were you I'd be picking the fastest charger your car supports. What have you? 270kW DC and 22kW AC.

    ESBs licence prohibits internal subsidisation.

It’d been extremely dangerous for a semi state body abuse it’s position by making electricity users subsidy’s loss making part of the business so as to force out competitors

What you do with your middle finger is up to you. You’re not very well informed on Irish EV parking infrastructure though, I’ll say that much. Give you’re from Canada, that at least explains the ignorance.

Smell of bitter old git from his posts alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Kaybaykwah

What? What do cycle lanes have to do with this? Fiiller post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Kaybaykwah

Well, I will admit that if your EV park and charge are in out of the way places, that’s ok. In Canada, they are in privileged spots, which is quite unfair, but that is my take on it, sorry I got you all in a tizzy…

    Oh no,

I was a commie lad, now I’m an old git.

Considering Canada is the 51st state I assume it will have similar massive car parks to the US. They will put the chargers near where the shortest cable can be facilitated. Which is probably not the arse end of the car park in a 51st state style carpark.

What have Parking spaces got to do with any thing. You've hit every branch of the derail a thread (filler) tree.

It was a straightforward thread about public charging strategies and costs.

Complaining that you have to walk a tiny bit further on a rare occasion is very American. But then this thread is about Ireland so that is utterly irrelevant.

Well, I’m not going to teach you a class in geography, on top of the other stuff you bungled.

Good, because if you start talking about Geography, we would have to talk about history. As has been pointed out, this is a thread about public EV charging prices in Ireland.

Let's all get back on track.

Public charging, at least the AC ones, are way over-priced. Whatever about the high cost of installing a DC charger, the AC ones require much lower investment and shouldn't be 40c+/kWh. They are poles with sockets and payment terminals. They are more of a necessity than a convenience, especially for those without home charging.

DC charging is more of a service and cost a lot to install and maintain, so the high charges are justified imo.

Posting about charging EVs on the wrong continent kinda makes that a non runner.

In Europe, you can count yourself lucky you don’t have to contend with Elon’s 3 ton jackknife: "the Cybertruck".

Everytime I pass one by, I mutter; "so this is the future?" Lol

Any Hyundai owners have any experience with the charge my hyundai service? Currently have an ESB card, but honestly can't see any savings above using it. Have a home charger but do occasionally use public chargers. From checking online, tesla chargers seem to be the most economical when using them off peak hours.

“I am only supposing this, but I am guessing you paying as much as a ICE car owner came as an unwanted surprise”

That suggests I may be regretting my decision. Nope.

The point I’m making is that EV cars meet the need for environmental measures that practically everyone (except MAGA types) is important.

That I personally may top up less than €20 of public available fuel a few times a year is hardly a personal hardship.

I would say that the 2 best cards to have in your car are the ESB Ecars, EZO and Octopus Electroverse. Most others services are just taking a premium to use a 3rd party charger.

Use Ecars card/account on Ecars (59c AC, 64c Fast, 66c High Power)

Use Electroverse on Ionity (66c), ecars high power (66c) and Epower (55c)

Use EZO when charging at Lidl (45c AC 50c DC)

Has anybody else noticed the €1.70 access fee EZO are now adding to their chargers after 3 minutes of charging?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,507 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    Saw that alright, sneaky.

Does the Electroverse card come with a recurring subscription or any other charges? That's a decent discount from the Ionity standard rates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,482 ✭✭✭✭L1011

No, it's free. There's also referral codes that get you a fiver (I think) in credit after your first use, there's a thread of them in Bargain Alerts's referrals sub forum. I've not put mine there so I'm not advertising that as any benefit for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,507 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    That's handy to know 👍️

Paid 0.81/kwh at Ionity over the weekend. Saucy enough.

Edit: I see once you have the Electroverse app that you need to sign up to Ionity for 11.99 a month to get the discounted rate there. Shame.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,919 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

So the 66c Ionity rate is only available using that card if you have an Ionity monthly sub as well?

That's what it looks like to me at least.
