Exactly. Disappointing but certainly wouldn't swap it for 3 points in the league

Totally disagree it’s not the forwards it’s on the coaching and playing in our own third of the field and playing backwards al the time, no forward quick passing to open up the play or taking on the opponents defence. For me Saka is washed up and the manager is excepting this from him.

    Arteta needs to go!

He has no plan B. Everything he does is defensive and predictable. Never sets the team out to win games, it's about possession and control and today we had neither. Cannot blame the squad anymore. Our form has been shocking for quite some time now we have just been managing to scrape results.

People saying I would take the league over the cup, champions league over the league etc are deluded. You want to win every game and in one off games like today from minute one you attack and try win the game. If nothing else the fans can see you went for it and the better team won on the day, no complaints. Imagine paying for a ticket to that to watch your team sit back and allow a struggling City team pile the pressure on and look like world beaters, simply shocking.

No trophy in how many years and we finally bring on some front men in the 80ish minute ? Arteta paralysed on the bench to take a chance…2 nil down in a one off game and still holds back making positive changes to try turn it around. We should have emptied the bench after the 2nd goal, get Dowman on. Rice, Trossard, Zubimendi and Saka did zilch today. Anyone suggesting Havertz is first choice, watch that game back again. He is nowhere near it.

You think Ferguson would have started his 2nd choice players for a chance of silverware ? No chance, it is all about winning trophy's and creating winning habits. This is a trend we have experienced from Arteta from day 1, He is not good enough imo end of. Arsenals habits right now is not showing up in the big games when it matters, Mentally they are not there. Nobody else to blame anymore.

Would you not at least wait till the end of the season, before this rant? Still have an opportunity in the other 3 competitions and when was the last time we could ever say that?

Admittedly have my doubts in the cups now, as think in a one off game, the attack hasn't shown they'll show up. Better chance of the league. Which if course will be a highly successful season.

No it's not Ferguson and Pep should show you that. Wenger would disagree with you obviously as well.

Utter domestic dominance in England has never translated to anything similar in Europe.

I must say Arsenal seem to be top of the league in spite of Arteta.

Absolutely blessed that Liverpool and City dropped the ball this year.

Mourinho never even seemed this negative!

You can call it a rant all you like the record speaks for itself. One cup back in 2020. What should I be waiting for? if you enjoy their current form fair play to you. Opportunities mean nothing if you don't show up and perform, We are only where we are in the league as City handed it back by dropping points, The games we could have put the league to bed we got defensive, nervy and lost points, just like today.

We have done very well to continue churning out results given our shocking performances.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but can I ask how old you are? Just trying to gauge how long you are a supporter

Some Arsenal "fans" deserve absolutely nothing.

Went into today with 3 losses in 40-something games and in contention for a quadruple, now there's an Arteta out call. Hilarious stuff.

I think its 4 losses in 50 games and need only 1 more win to equal most ever wins since Premier league era started

do we get a trophy for that?! Sorry couldn’t resist. Seriously though, we need to start winning trophies, not leading stats etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭ronjo

Ok similar to me. Terry Neill was still in charge when I started following.

Boring boring Arsenal never bothered me in the slightest under Graham

If you think I have formed that opinion from today alone, that's fine.

It is not an coincidence that Arsenal's mental strength has been in question for seasons now. Arteta has been highlighted many times this season alone as being nervy, showing this through team selections , style of play and tactics in games that matter. Today he showed nothing different.

Unlike some fans, I call it as it is. Arsenal have arguably the biggest, best squad in the league and yet again today we didn't even try win that game…who should I look at for that?

Arsenal fans have every right to be angry today. Not the time for Arteta in / out discussions though as it’s counterproductive as we all know he’s going nowhere. If we don’t win the league or CL then that discussion will be happening behind the scenes at the club (at least I’d hope so).
In the meantime Arteta does need to try not to shackle the team so much and trust them more.

Means absolutely nothing, How many have City won? a lot less yet they have a trophy this season.

Arsenal should go on and win the league and brilliant if they do.

Can I ask you, should we not have won a league under him already? remember the big lead we let slip? that not count?

Think the players need to take more of the blame today, rather then the manager. We looked relatively comfortable in the first half and thought we were the better side.

Complete U-turn second half, where we were pinned in and couldn't get out and were punished with the 2 quick goals.

Hardly think after being the better side first half. That he then told the team to drop deep and not string 2 passes together. Probably did miss one of Odegaard or Eze in that scenario though.

If we win nothing this season then by all means have the Arteta out discussion, but to have it now is ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭ronjo

Yes we let one league slip in 22/23.

Two defensive injuries against Sporting and we fell apart.

If Arsenal showed up today and actually looked like they believed themselves they could win. Try to entertain their fans with some attacking football and be the better team on the day but still lost I would have zero complaints and tip my cap for them trying their best. What we watched today was another mental implosion. Dress it up anyway you want.

Why didn't Arsenal go full strength today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,952 ✭✭✭BUACHAILL

Arteta was under huge scrutiny coming into this season already and got a huge amount of backing from the owners to buy any player he wanted if I remember correctly. Today was his first opportunity to repay that and bring silverware to the club…we looked so far off. He sat back until the 80th minute before trying to change up his tactics and go for it? Tell me I am wrong here.

Yes players need to take responsibility but the manager decides the approach and has the power to change things, just look at Pep today.

I actually think Kepa had more touches on the ball than our midfield.

Who is dressing it up? Today was a steaming pile of sh1t

to be “fair” or some other nonsense reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭ronjo

did same as Pep. Allowed cup keeper to play unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,173 ✭✭✭giveitholly

I would understand if this team had already silverware in the cabinet but it came across as arrogant from Arteta. Okay its only the Carabou but put out your strongest team and just go for it.

    Hurting after that one.

It's one thing to lose. It's another thing to just capitulate... What happened in that second half? Just bewildered about how poor the team was. Okay, Kepa made the crucial mistake, but it had been one way traffic for twenty minutes prior to that.

I was laying it on thick in here a few weeks ago about how Arsenal didn't have the bottle etc, etc... Results since then have made me waver in that belief a bit.

After last week, it was about as close as I've felt all year in maybe being willing to believe that, maybe, they could prove my inherent fatalism all wrong…

But, then you have a shocker like today where they were completely outclassed in that second half by a non-vintage City side. City were so assured they were talking the piss. That's just embarrassing.

What worried me was it felt like City got the measure of them in the first half and then set out in that second half to show them who was boss - and did that with ease.

I don't buy talk from last week that the league is over - it's clearly fcking far from over - I still have this belief that there's a deep-seated mental weakness in this team.

They're an amazing team in so many ways and sincerely I want to be wrong, but I don't know how not to be concerned after such a poor effort today.

I hope that the break now will allow a reset and refocus... But, ah, just complete disappointment today. A brutal reality check.

Are you referring to Raya, or something else? Apart from the goalkeeper, we were full strength. City also didn't play with their number 1 keeper.
