And exactly what do you expect it to achieve beyond pearl clutching? It's not like the information is not out there for those who care to find out; and the majority of American could not be bothered to find out or care in the first place (insert your personal reasons here of why). For the vast population in America the war only matters in terms of how it will impact them personally and some muslim brownies with turbans somewhere over there has zero weight in that discussion. So I ask again; what do you expect it to achieve and do you care more for them to flip the house, senate etc. and achieve practical change or do you prefer them to simply preach about morals and pretend to be the pope? Because they can't do both.

Exactly. Trump has so many issues, the latest is that he has entered into a war that he campaigned on not doing and by doing so, caused gas prices to rise sharply, another massive promise broken.

Has any of that made any material impact on those who support him? No. So if the Dems start calling for an end to the war, they will simply be labelled as Iran supporting traitors, anti-American woke liberals who care more about illegals than the real Americans, and how dare they not support the troops who are out there fighting to secure democracy, etc

    Here we go again!

Despite these warnings, some right-wing media personalities are urging Trump to seize Kharg Island

Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade encouraged Marines to “grab Kharg Island,” arguing that doing so would not constitute putting “boots on the ground” because it’s an island.

“If you're on an island, you're not really in Iran,” he claimed. “You're on an island controlling the infrastructure. And you could be holding this area and still get around having boots on the ground

Silicon Valley AI billionaire and Trump supporter Peter Thiel held lectures on the Antichrist in Rome. Catholic church distancing itself.

Thiel has argued that the Antichrist might not be a person, but rather a governmental system that uses fear of things like AI, war and climate change to take power.

Rutte saying that 22 countries, of which are mostly Nato members are working on answering his Daddy's rallying call for securing the free passage through the Hormuz strait.

If they ever get Trump before an execution sqaud, Thiel and Miller should be on either side of him.

In a stunning lack of self-awareness, Thiel is the antichrist. What do you expect from an apartheid-era racist South African

I thought the Antichrist was supposed to be charismatic…

There's more chance of Peter Thiel being the antichrist.

    Nahhh good ole USA

What I would most like is for America, the Trump regime and indeed the population who either support or tolerate him, to get their comeuppance someday and pay a real price. And I'm not talking about the price of eggs. Their indifference to the chaos their awful government is causing is a national disgrace. Unlike Iranians, Russians, etc, they have the right to protest and most of them do absolutely nothing

That just shows how pathetic and useless the Dems are at controlling the narrative. It should not be hard to destroy Trump for this war because it goes against all his promises. Being afraid of being called anti American is a stupid excuse. Stand up and have some values and stop letting maga morons control the narrative

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,596 ✭✭✭Economics101

No. what it really shows is how pathetic a sizeable proportion of the American population is. If they really gave a damn, htey would have been huge street demonstrations months ago. Never underestimate the ability of MAGA and its media lackeys to mount a campaign about Democrat traitors.

A Houthi blockade of the narrow waterway would force oil and trade vessels to reroute around Africa, raising shipping costs, fuel prices and inflation worldwide while deepening an oil crisis following Iran's blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. For the US, it would mean higher domestic energy costs and greater economic strain; globally it would send oil prices soaring and slow growth.

    (Meant for other thread)

Standing up and taking action will draw the attention of local cops, ICE and the National Guard, Trump will use their payment checks to control them.

The top brass in the armed forces have to push back Trump and show example.

If the Dems were constantly complaining at the moment, and complain is all they can do, they don't have any actual leverage, they would be dismissed by the Reps accusing them of lying and spinning the facts, and no-one would pay any attention. I suspect they will wait until they are within striking distance of the mid-terms and throw everything they can at the administration. After that they are dependent on the voting public, but I doubt that public will be quite as quiet as the polling suggests.

The Democrats just need to sit back and let him do what he does. He can't help but make a disaster of things. What I will say though, once in sight of the mid terms, the Dems need to control that narrative. Needs to be a clear message and needs to include some cash back to help with day to day. No need for any aspirational stuff, this needs short term thinking to end this nightmare. Promise all Americans they will get 2 x 500 Dollar payments, one before and one after Christmas. That Federal taxes will be reduced on fuel and heating oil, hauliers will get tax breaks on fuel costs and that an immediate withdrawal from Iran will take place. And that should be the entire message and get every Democrat to talk it far and wide, they would sweep up. One of the main reasons Trump got back in because he promised a check, Dems should play the same game, get as many in as possible and hopefully will have the numerical advantage. Go after every one of the crooked **** after that, starting with TRUMP.
