Yeah Cash on the bench hopefully means he will be playing against West Ham.

Pau, Maatsen, Luiz all playing so hopefully that improves our attacking threat, a decent performance from Sancho and it might make some room for Rogers .

Onana needs to take control in the middle to make the game easier. Happy to see Lindelof get a start.

    Pedestrian is accurate.

Almost pressing the crossing button and waiting.

It’s not been bad, but it’s not been good either

Unbelievable ball from Emi changing everything after what had been a really poor start to the half

    Boom.

    Emi Martinez enjoyed that too

Sancho is genuinely getting better, the little step over control and perfect cross for McGinn.

He's actually posed a proper threat at time down the wing

Should have had a goal there too Sancho - he's linking up amazingly with Martinez's lomg balls.

But walking off pouting, after hitting the post, while ball is still live and Rogers is moving forward with it, is not quite as good a look

    Phew....

Even Bailey scoring - although a few unneccesarily close offside checks

Clean sheet and a win, can’t complain

Roma Bologna looks like extra time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭cgorzy

Will take that, thought Sancho was decent and it was a good assist , a goal for Bailey. They’re stepping up when it matters…sort of!

Who'd we prefer - we beat Bologna earlier in competition, but Roma seem to be reliant on Malen's goal and don't think he could play against us

I think he could have. Dont think that rule applies in europe. Asensio played against PSG last season.

Results went well elsewhere tonight too. Lyon knocked out, Bologna a more preferable opponent to Roma, and Forest getting through means they’ll have an away leg before the Forest v Villa game in April too.

Think it was one of Sancho’s better games but he’s not a 350k a week player.

Overall a typical Emery European game ultimately as long as we didn’t concede we were through. Lille had a good ten minutes at the start of the 2nd half but that goal after their pressure knocked the stuffing out of them. Unusual to see Martinez release the ball so quickly he usually hangs on to it.

At least Malen won’t be coming back to haunt us.

Tielemans reportedly back in training (unlikely for Sunday) but that'd mean he'll be well set up for after International break matches.

Also Bogarde called up by Holland for internationals

nobody there to fear. The winner of Porto vs Forest will probably be the hardest opponent.

Great that we might have both Tielemans and McGinn ready to start after the break.

Hopefully the lads will take some encouragement from the European result but West Ham will be difficult- probably the form team from those who should be fight for their lives.

Emery has said that Tielemans could actually play on Sunday - the time of excuses is coming to an end, need some good results over these next 6 games

Results going our way this weekend.

Every team seems to be giving us a golden pass to CL football but can we raise our game? 3 points tomorrow is a must ….

Need to maximise today’s results tomorrow. West Ham playing relatively well at the moment, it won’t be easy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,362 ✭✭✭pavb2

The consensus on social media is that we will mess it up, hopefully not but given our recent PL performances a draw probably isn’t the worst result.

Hammers are top four in form table, Villa are lowest scorers in the leauge in 2026. This is going to be an very tough game and even getting a point will be a big effort. Team selection will tell alot. If a team is named with the likes of Mings, Digne Bundeia starting I fear defeat will be the outcome. I wouldnt mind seeing the same team that started against Lille, maybe Barkley for Luiz and if Youri is on the bench even better. Lindelof has been excellent everytime he has started and no.harm to give Konsa a kick in the ass and maybe he will buck up his ideas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭cgorzy

Lindelof has been good when he has played but I expect we will see Konsa back today and He was just rested on the Lille game. Hopefully Cash starts and is expected to play 90, I think Bogarde either playing or being ready to cover for Cash is part of the reason he has not been playing in midfield where he could give us the cover to play Maatsen and allow him to push on. Sancho taking confidence from the Lille game and stretching the game a bit would help our attack.

Falling out of the Top 5 seems harder than getting into it right now but we will need to win games to finish Top 5. This is a chance to get one of those wins and although their form is ok we’re not going to have games that are easier.

a draw at home to WH would be an awful result after Liverpool and Chelsea both losing. If you can’t take a chance like this to grab hold of a top 5 spot then it won’t come around very soon again IMO

West Ham with 5 at the back, this will be tough.
