Both the Iranian and Israeli regimes are brutal. The difference is that the Iranian regime is also brutal to its own people. I have no illusions about Israels intentions but I do hope the Iranian regime is replaced by its own people and that the US military action will weaken it enough to make that possible.

Iran helped destroy the deal that was almost negotiated between Israeli PM Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat in 2001 by its support for Hamas. Hamas and Likud feed off of each other. They are each other's bogeymen.

Report that Iranian port of Bushehr in the Persian Gulf bombed. This is likely to be Israel which is going after the more economic targets. When Trump bombed Kharg island it avoided targeting the oil/gas infrastructure.

No, they haven't attacked "pretty much everyone" in the past 40 years.

    Who's everyone?

Lebanon, where Iranian backed Hezbollah run the south of the country.

Iran, which has a state-led goal of destroying Israel, and funds Hezbollah and Hamas to that end, which the Lebanese Government has even acknowleged in recent days.

To say they started the war for "no reason then to destablise the region" or "attack the only person that could oppose them" is illogical.

If Israel has no interest in peace, considers everyone an enemy, why have they had no conflict with Saudi, Egypt, Jordan for decades? Like, their actual neighbours, who are not thousands of miles away like Iran?

And why would Iran be the only state in the Middle East that could oppose them? Egypt and Saudi Arabia have incomparably bigger and better equipped militaries than Iran which is literally thousands of miles away.

Notwithstanding that Iran is thousands of miles away and has, for decades, a policy of attacking Israel via proxy networks of terror groups it directly supports, and funnelling the vast majority of military expenditure into ballistic missiles capable of hitting Israel.

Personally it seems to me that people are basing their thoughts on Iran/Israel based on what the latter is doing in Palestine, because Iran is up to its scalp in raging war on Israel long before these hostilities. Ask yourself why Iran does that.

It's because they want Israel destroyed. It really is just a fact, and it's not taking sides.

I've left Palestine out of it because it's a far deeper and more complex topic than a sentence can do justice to and I don't think anyone supports Israel in those actions.

But again, it seems to me that a lot of people look at what Israel is doing in Palestine and they translate that to Israel must be the bad player in every scenario.

Trump issues 48-hour ultimatum to Iran

Donald Trump has said if Iran does not "fully open" the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the US "will hit and obliterate their power plants".

In a Truth Social post, the US president said: "If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!"

talk of winding down the war earlier today has been replaced with a 48 hour deadline by trump for iran to open the strait of Hormuz or he will obliterate all their power plants starting with the biggest ...

International Relations, up to and including threats of war, conducted through a social media platform created by an unhinged, former reality television host pedophile who happens to also be the President of the USA. What a time to be alive.

of course iran have counter threatened

"Iran’s Armed Forces Unified Combatant has warned that if Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked, all energy infrastructures belonging to the US in the region will be targeted, according to Iranian media."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,927 ✭✭✭Brussels Sprout

The Russians and Israelis targeted power plants and other civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and Gaza respectively. They had the good sense not to announce it publicly before hand though. That way they could give themselves plausible deniability by making up some cock and bull story about how they were really targeting legitimate military targets.

Trump is, as he often does, saying the quiet part out loud.

    From the Guardian:

The Iranian military’s operational command Khatam Al-Anbiya said in a statement carried by Fars news agency:

Following previous warnings, if Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is violated by the enemy, all energy, information technology and desalination infrastructure belonging to the US and the regime in the region will be targeted.”

It's comforting to know I will most likely live through the deaths of Trump, Netanyahu, and Putin. My body won't thank me, though.

Saudi Arabia ordered the Iranian Military Attache and his staff to leave within 24 hours, in response Iran fired 3 ballistic missiles at Riyadh. The Arabs can sleep at night knowing that these missiles don’t have nuclear warheads.

Interesting numbers, “More than 4911 Iranian rockets and drones targeted #Gulf countries versus 850 rockets on #Israel”

Oh the A10 isn't from comic books or cartoons, its designed to kill people, not infrastructure with surgical strikes but actual humans, in this case those humans are in fast attack boats holding the world economy to ransom.

    This explains the A10.

”Took part in a demonstration” seems to be something of an understatement. It’s been reported he hacked 2 policemen to death with a machete

You say it’s a state goal of Iran to destroy the Israeli regime. It’s also a state goal of Israel to destroy the Iranian regime. This fact gets overlooked but they have launched 2 wars against Iran. Assassinated hundreds of scientists. Bombed their embassy, introduced damaging computer viruses. Committed acts of sabotage and terror, fermented dissent and supported groups seeking to overthrow the Iranian state.

It’s portrayed as a one way street where “tiny” Israel just wants to leave in peace and harmony with its neighbours.
It has always been, very much, a two way conflict.

So you're happy for Israel to kill children?

    /s

There is too much sense in this post for Boards…. can we have in in a Blue vs Red format please? No nuances allowed as it makes Iran look bad.

As the Brits are supposedly seeing this one out what is the Sub meant to do. They'll hardly fire the two dozen or so missiles at Shaheds. That would be a really dumb and expensive use of the asset.

It's actually a big lumbering useless piece of kit if not going on the attack.

Excellent post but some just want to blame Israel for literally everything. I'm sure when this spell of weather ends some will blame Israel for ruining the weather. Its a crutch for some.

In common with many posters on here, Iran want the destruction of Israel itself, not just "the regime". To try and claim otherwise is just ridiculous. They dont want Israel to exist. They have stated this over and over and have been working towards this goal for many years via their funding of various groups. On the other hand, Israel have never wished for the literal destruction of iran, for them it really is just about the current theocratic regime that aims to destroy them. So its not really a "two way street" at all.

It has been claimed before, without evidence that Iran has an official policy of the destruction of Israel.

Calling for the destruction of the “Zionist regime” yes, in the same way every recent Israeli leader had called for the destruction of the regime in Tehran.

Israel killed their own PM Yitzak Rabin, to stop a deal. Satanyahu is widely believed to have been behind that. The American admins and CIA still fell fully square behind Isreal despite this.

Neither of those want a deal. The Americans want to control the middle east and Israel are the perfect tool to do so. Many indigenous Jews, true smites, said they were happier living side by side with the Palestinians pre 1948. The illegal establishment of the state created the problem in the same way the partion of NI did on this island.

The US and Britain have had it in for Iran since Mossadeagh. They created both these problems and continue to feed them by propping up the Israel regime.

I don't think there was widespread anti-isrsel rhetoric in Ireland before the genocide. Most people had little or no interest in Palestine. The genocide and multiple war crimes shone a light on Israel tactics and motivations.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,219 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Thoughts on these counterpoints @Homelander ?

By the way I think some people here fully supported Israeli actions in Gaza. You would be naive not to recognise the amount of anti-muslim hostility in Ireland and how muslims have been dehumanised. Ask the posters here that refuse to answer questions on it.

    Two way street? Terrible analogy

it’s more like a region wide dumpster fire where so far Iran has mostly hurt anyone but Israel in the bizarre hope it turns those countries against Israel when it is already doing the exact opposite of their stupid strategic theory and leaving them with the same conclusions as Israel and US, Iranian regime has to go

Oh all while hurting Palestinians more firstly by directly killing them now and by taking their cause off the front pages

notice how none on the far left want to even mention the Iranian cluster bombing of the West Bank killing Palestinians, or the regimes ongoing murder of protesters, because they don’t actually care,

That’s when not busy defending the execution of a young man implying he deserves it for being a gay protester in Iran

the Iranian regime only needs a few mobile rocket squads hidden away in mountainous terrain to keep the strait closed. So even if their energy plant was destroyed, you’d still have no strait opened and a fcking angrier Iranian regime on your hands.

Trump doesn’t know how to de-escalate - and because this war never had a goal in the first place, except to bolster trumps ego and win some seats in the upcoming mid-terms, it’s very hard to know just what America could give Iran to make them back down- but the price will be significant- Iran has America and indeed the world over a “barrel” - they’re in a huge negotiation position and it wouldn’t surprise me that America are doing a secret deal with them right now.
Blow up their energy plant, and you can forget any ships passing this strait for the next decade- US and European warships won’t be able to defend against essentially gurrila type warfare on oil tankers by Iran.
Peaceful negotiation is the only way for this to settle down.

We need to just hope the American people turn against this bell end.

Now we have the the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq. They got attacked by the US last night, “maybe” to stop them attacking US facilities.

I’m with you but it’s wishful thinking- American public have blinkers on when it comes to anything outside of their own country - they might get miffed about petrol prices at their local “gas” station or about food prices rising, but they just appear too plain dumb to link what Trump is doing worldwide to their own very mediocre economic “crisis”.

I mean, they elected the fcker so we have to accept that they wanted this sh1tshow too - they’re complicit whether they’re willing to admit it or not

Them gulf states can seize all that dirty Russian and Iranian money stashed away mostly in real estate there and pay for plenty of anti drone defences
