There's always changes and environmental impacts with development. It is for planners, assisted by people doing impact assessments, who should decide. There are people (look at the Whitehouse) who believe they know better than people who have years of qualifications and experience.

The park would have the new road running alongside not through the middle do it wouldn’t be damaged by it.

Well, aside from the loss of well used amenities such as the various frequently used pitches and paths used by many including elderly people and people with children?

We need many more Liffey crossings in west Dublin. There is opposition to providing them that can only be described as weird.

People are not (to my knowledge) opposed to more Liffey crossings. People are opposed to a significant portion of a public park being given over to a main road and to have a massive concrete bridge take up what is currently a significant landscape.

Widening the existing road is never done in Ireland for environmental reasons which are probably clear.

Absolute nonsense. Many roads in the area have been widened in the past. One notable one is the R120 which followed the old road and now has good lines of sight, etc. There have also been new roads built in the area e.g. the L2010.

The R120 was always straight and wide - it was a new build from 200 years ago. I know new roads have been built, I said we don’t widen existing ones. There’s no way to do it without destroying hedgerows and their wildlife.

Can we just have high-quality infrastructure in a rapidly growing city please? I’ve no idea why you’re so opposed to this.

No it wasn't - I'm not sure what road you are thinking of. The section from the canal to the Polly Hops was twisty, very busy and there was at least one fatality on it that I can think of prior to the recent realignment and widening project. However, the current layout is pretty much on top of the old road

OK - I thought you meant the section from the railway line to Lucan.

I'd also point out that hedgerows do not form any part of the decision making process in terms of road building. The Barnhill Rd would principally be to facilitate housing development (not as an M50 alternative). Those housing developments would rip out each and every hedgerow on the site.
It would be fairly true to say that Ireland (from a government perspective) doesn't care about hedgerows or wildlife aside from a fairly measly budget thrown towards the NPWS and the likes.

Build a cycle and pedestrian path and bridge then. If i that's the concern.

You can't fix traffic by adding more traffic. Really that's all this is about opening up more land for developers. You'll be in back here after the developers finish complaining about all the new traffic.

Build your way out of congestion…

The connection to the N4 won’t open up land for developers. And what if it did? We should be building infrastructure first before housing. I wouldn’t be back here complaining because I’m pro-growth.

    Seth

Please stop saying M50 bypass when it’s miles away from it and M50 alternatives are exactly what west Dublin needs.

    If course it will.

They wouldn't be looking to drive a road through a park if they'd built the road infrastructure first. They build a load of unconnected housing with no infrastructure and are now trying to fix that has caused with a land grab through massive local amenity.

This isn't pro growth its pro stupid planning.

All these roads are used as rat-runs to avoid the M50. You'd have to blind not to see that. The congestion on these roads at peak times is obvious its commuters rat running.
