    Great point there to level

draw is probably a fair result although Tipp didn't seem to be at full throttle

    Tallis was good

Weird commentary, he got a lot of players mixed up, Ormonde was playing for us at one stage and he almost had a coughing fit at one stage in the 2nd half. Can see why he's not one of the main ones.

What a touch by Mossy to take the ball down for the goal.

Great to see them going for goals, Moore played well.

Great to see us back playing traditional. Rather than pure crap with 13 behind the ball. TJ is still carrying us tho. He was instrumental in everything as usual

Didn't get to to match. Who played well or not so well?

A lot of boxes ticked tonight plenty of goals up around the 30 pint mark

Tallis was Brillant stopped two certain goals I don’t think murphy gets back in unfortunately

Hopefully the injuries to Bolger and phelan aren’t to bad did Cody come off with an injury also ?

    Tj is Tj

Molloy is becoming more important to us everyday he plays bit of a break through performance for moore I think he wasn’t shy infront of goal and took all his scores well where as in other games he was more likely to pass than shoot

Tipp overplayed the ball an awful lot instead of going direct more

The modern game of hurling is desperate to watch at times passs pass pass turn back over carry avoid contact across the field over carry repeat throw the ball etc it was tipps main game plan in the second half and some of the best forwards in the country waiting inside

Overall the performance was much improved. Much better style of hurling. Tom Phelan had a great start. Hopefully his injury only something minor. Likewise Bolger. Himself and Garrett did OK. My main concern is the concession of puck outs to Tipp again. So easy for them to work the ball to midfield with runners. We often get the ball to midfield and the man receiving is static and gets bottled up

    TJ makes intercounty hurling enjoyable!
killian Doyle can play nice little 40 yard passes, but he is lost at sea at that level.

Happy enough with that performance, very much felt the reaction to the Galway match among fans was over the top and felt there'd be a response from us (although I had predicted a win). That said, other than the last ten minutes I didn't think there was much intensity to it from either team, it was a bit toothless maybe in part because of the short passing tactics that do tend to make games a bit dull unless everyone is going absolutely full throttle.

Tallis had some great saves in the second half that basically kept us in it. On the puckouts I think they started going short because agree about ten or fifteen minutes tipp had started to completely dominate the middle third and were clearing up our puckouts, which is worrying.

TJ was phenomenal again, just an absolute wizard and aside from all he scored (and he nearly scored a second goal which would have made a complete eejit of the keeper of it went in), he caused consternation when we dropped ball in on him, he's so smart with it.

I hope today confirms that eoin Cody belongs out the field, he can learn to deal with being man marked but he can't deal with being holed up in the corner, he had a fantastic first half today and a good game in general. Mossy had his best game of the year imo, and Liam Moore is looking like the find of the league for us. Donnelly is starting to be a worry.

Kenny was great again, thought Doyle had a great start then started to get overrun. A few of the backs struggled although for all the blame deegan gets (often correctly, but definitely way over the top) nobody seems to be giving him any credit for a fine performance today. Corcoran struggled I thought, and bolger had a hard day at the office that he'll need to learn from. But missing Carey and Butler there was always going to be a tough time for those lads back there.

Think both teams left a lot in the tank to be honest, but a draw in semple is a decent result and we should go back to salthill in a few weeks with a lot more self belief and a few players back. Going on what I heard about Galway today, a result there would be a serious statement, but they are properly tough now. Hopefully we'll get two battles with them in Leinster now and it'll make for an interesting year!

Tj, what a performance from him. He is just so good, still our best player in my opinion.

TJ is a joy to watch

An Irishman is never drunk as long as he can hold onto one blade of grass and not fall off the face of the earth.

A nice spread, hopefully Liam Moore drives it on now.

McDermott did well when he came on as well.

at least you could identify the numbers easily, whereas with the Tipp jersey it was very hard to identify the numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭AhBoyDelaney

Janey if you thought Eoin Cody had a good game maybe go back and look at it again. He should have been taken off earlier. He is playing his own game and not a team player. Totally agree he needs to be out at 11 but he needs to bring other players into the game. Killian Doyle on a lot of ball but gave away a mountain of ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 hurleronthefence

some of Cody’s shooting was awful, and has been awful at times through the league. Donnelly looked tired. Great game for Tj, was carnage when the ball was near him. Tipp missed a couple of goal chances and gifted us a few scores messing with the ball. Infairness to Deegan whatever is said about him at times he gives his all whether he has 2 or 15 or anything in between on his back, he plays wherever he is asked. Thought richie got destroyed again on any 50/50 balls just looking for loose ball and a free strike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,693 ✭✭✭Marrooned

I don’t know what some of ye were watching tonight there were three of our marquee forwards absolutely septic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭AhBoyDelaney

Totally agree. Eoin Cody terrible and needs to stop sulking if that is what is wrong with him. Throw him out at 11.Liam Moore good first half only. Donnelly looked terrible at times and Mossie the same but they kept trying. Luke hogan not good enough.
TJ still leading by example. Sad to say he is still our best forward at 38.

So bad that we all thought Liam Moore squared that ball in the first half to a kilkenny man for a tap in 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 146 ✭✭The_Tank

Kilkenny played a simpler style playing off breaks and it worked. That said it looked ominous ten minutes into the second when Tipp were carving us up and e we were living off hard won scraps.

Our fullback line was in big trouble all through. Tipp fluting around with the ball cost them the opportunity to put us under more pressure. Mccarthy had the better of Bolger. Btw Bolger looked in a good bit of pain going off so hope he’s ok. Gearoid O Conner was taken off by Tipp at half time and i thought he was winning his battle too. Garrett battled well at times. Deegan unfortunately not in the parish of a full back, looked shakey and I felt he did poorly for first tipp goal - long ball claiming neither ball nor man.

Tipps goal at the start of the first half was criminal defending from us where they just ran through. That said after that point everyone battled theirhearts out. Corcoran ended up in the corner and did well, Reid was clearly on one leg. Garrett made a goal saving tackle and Tallis some miracle saves.

Forwards looked limited, again moore and the imperious TJ the pick. Donnelly very poor, looked sick tbh , was doubled over in the first half and dropped a couple of shots short and missed easy chance in the second half. Looked low on energy. McDermott battled well. Beirne struggled with the pace of it. Cody almost caught fire and did his best work playing off Tj. But we left a number of simple scores behind us.

Overall I was happy we had a rough plan and down a lot of bodies stayed in the fight. Tipp were playing to win, and their subs proved it, but they kinda shot themselves in the foot. TJs goal lifted kilkenny when they looked out of ideas.

Kilkenny made a tonne of mistakes, especially the new lads but that is how they learn so i attach no fault to that.

I'd say Lyng will be happy enough. Much more energy in tonight's performance, clearly something up the last day. Not perfect but plenty to work on.
TJ is just remarkable. Great to score 3-18 from play despite a couple of our better forwards not quite at it. Only 8 of the team that started the semi final v Tipp started tonight.

James Owen's has to be worst ref in the game. Tipp defenders constantly fouling and pulling and dragging yet 1 free for Kilkenny in Tipps half in the entire game?? Couldn't buy a free, he's a disgrace. Then ignored a really dangerous tackle from behind on Darragh Corcoran for Tipps last score.

We all know how how good tj is but his performance tonight was something else for a man who hasn't played a match in a few months

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 146 ✭✭The_Tank

Couple of other points - Tom Phelan going off was a big blow to kilkenny as he was going well.

Eoin Cody - when he does pass - so many of them are not executed well

Good to see a bit of fight in the lads tonight..unfortunate about the injuries but hopefully we can clear them up., as good as tj always is, it is worrying how much we rely on him still, eoin, john donnelly need to start making their mark on games for tj to pass the torch on so to speak. The backs…I felt it was the best opportunity for Corcoran to be tried there, and I think he can do a job, as deegan is definitely not a full back. I've seen someone post here that you can put him anywhere but the problem is that he lacks the ability to fight and win his own ball, and theren he really isn't room for that in an inter county defence ..…i do worry going into leinster that we do not have a settled spine, but if I were to choose a team to face Galway in April?

    A tallis,

    Butler, Corcoran, Garret

    Blanch ,Carey, s murphy

    Kenny Molloy

    Donnelly Cody phelan

    Mossy tj moore

I thought Killian Doyle was very good tonight and was unlucky to be taken off. He has great hands and first touch. He made a couple of mistakes in a row which led to him being substituted but overall he was one of our better players. I think subconsciously Lyng is more aware of his mistakes than others given they are club men. Bit of depth at midfield now with him, Molloy, Kenny.

Forwards situation looking a little brighter all of a sudden also. Eoin Cody wasn't brilliant tonight but he did some excellent things, was very good in first 20 and caused big problems. Overhit a pass early on but was very decent I thought. Made the goal with a great pass for Mossy and then had 2 very poor wides, inexplicably for him. Had he walked off with 0-4 we'd have been happy enough. Mossys form is more worrying despite scoring 1-2 tonight. John Donnelly not fully up to speed either.
Ed McDermott was very bright and Tom Phelan had started well. We will need Stephen Donnelly and Adrian Mullen to be fully fit come the biggest days ahead. Liam Moore another encouraging performance but needs to stop fading out in 2nd half, but his work rate is excellent. Be great to see Harry Shine get back. Well done to Rory Glynn on his senior competitive debut also.

Aidan Tallis (or Alan Tillis as the TG4 guy called him there at one stage when I watched it back) is a super keeper. Depth there now also.

In defence, Garrett did well again. More worries here though I think. We need the 2 Mikey's back ASAP. And Huw, if you read this page, would begging do any good??

bang on Chaz. Owens only stopped play when Tipp scored, I actually thought it was Deegan hit Corcoran but I only saw it in real time and at distance. Anyway we came home with our heads held high with only about half of the team performing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,458 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Agree here, think people are being way too harsh on Cody's performance today, was far from perfect but he set up several scores, worked well off TJ, and while he had a couple of poor shots, if those had gone over he'd have looked fairly solid. Look at the work he put in for the first goal, he's very good in those situations breaking out from distance. Don't know anything about his relationship with lyng, don't give a **** either, you don't have to like your manager.

ye I’d have to agree Tom Phelan hit the ground running tonight and our performance dropped when he retired any word on what’s wrong we assumed he was cut. Could he have been concussed? And Ivan Bolger seemed to know he had a serious injury judging by his actions on the pitch.
