We'll only be able to properly assess Slots tenure once we see how his successor does.

Whoever follows him has a massive job on their hands.

If Edward’s and Hughes and Slot leave in the summer does anybody reckon Klopp would fancy coming back after having a nice two year break and a fresh group of players there to work with. Also Pep will more than likely be gone as well.

I know klopp is loved there but never go back, it'd be a bad idea imho.

No, Klopp is done. The only way he'd be back is in some form of Director or Chairman type role and even at that, there's negligible chance of it happening. His time on Merseyside is done.

There are no quick fixes for this mess and its unclear if Klopps brand of football would flourish in the current iteration of the premiere league.

    This is a good point.

If the Premier League continues on its current trajectory, it's hard to know who Liverpool could hire and be guaranteed success.

It is hard to believe how unfit this team is, what was the stat earlier they have been outrun by other teams in 26 games this season or something shocking like that. I heard on the commentary today that Spurs outrun Liverpool by 8km last week. That is just embarrassing and that is at home. It's an absolute shambles and yes Slot needs to be held to account on this. How we are even still in the running for CL spot is unbelievable.

Rafa. He was well able for this agricultural style, and managed to sprinkle some genius through the misery.

As much as I would love to see him back, I don't think that's likely!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭jones

This is not a blip - the team has fallen off a cliff with zero signs that it can be turned around from Slot. He needs to go during the international break.

Slots position is now untenable in my eyes and I suspect the players have stopped playing for him too. We're getting outrun by almost every team in the league.

Regardless of mitigation (Jota, injuries, new signings) it's clear as day Slot does not have the tools to solve this. He did great last season tweaking Klopp's tactics, reinventing Grav, taking advantage of teams having an off season and Salah in the form of his life but it's very different this season.

I don't get why some people continue to stick their heads in the sand in terms of how bad these performances are. It's like winning the league last season means we can finish 17th this season no harm no foul carry on Slot 🤣. I don't think he'll be there when the league resumes.

As an aside, that's not what triggered means… it's not a synonym for annoyed or something, it's just a totally different thing.

And one doesn't need a hard on for a lad to just recognise that frauds don't win premier leagues. He can be out of his depth this year and still be granted the modicum of respect he deserves for giving us a great year. ffs like, why does everything have to be so stupidly childishly extreme all the time. He did well last year, he isn't doing well this year. It's not that complicated.

    17th?

To be fair, that is exactly how people are reacting, as if we are in 17th rather than 5th and in quarter-final of the champions league.

And I totally agree, if we were in 17th i’d be calling for a change. But as it is, i’d love to see him get a chance with a front 3 of Wirtz, Eki and Isak in full flow. Despite our glorious history, the number of league winning managers we have had is few and far between. We should treasure them all. Slot won the league when feck all expected it. No reason at all he can’t do the same next season.

How would you judge Brendan Rogers reign so? I'm assuming you see Klopp's tenure as marginally better than slot's as both have one league title but klopp has a European cup. Slot does have another 5/6 years to beat this though but if the football continues like this even another European cup wouldn't put him near Klopp for me. (We all know he won't be here in 5 years) The way they see the game is too different. Klopp sees it as entertainment Slot as some form of fencing maybe? A lot of bouncing around with not much thrust to it. I can take the losses but not the lack of something to get excited by. I didn't get to see it today and I didn't even mind. That's how bad it is.

(I'm not counting domestic cups- fun and all as they are)

I must say I admire your steadfast believe in Slot but I've lost faith unfortunately.

I still believe he's a quality manager and will go on and have success elsewhere. He did unbelievably well to squeeze a league title from this squad of players last season. The turmoil during the off season and changes in personnel kind of did for him.

I kind of feel last season was the dying kick from the old guard of Salah, Van Dijk, Alisson, Trent, Robertson. I have my doubts the new core of players will ever reach their heights.

I'm using 17th as an extreme example of what people defending Slot have said - the rationale being that because Slot won the league he has a free shot this season no matter what happens - which is bullshit. Liverpool are a club who depend on European money.

If you follow these arguments to the end point then he could finish the season in 17th and still be there next season. It's based on nothing and complete rubbish. I think the only thing that's kept him in a job until now is the fact other teams have also sh*t the bed and we've somehow remained in contention despite our best efforts.

    He's done.

There's always the vaguest possibility of anything happening but you can't really be thinking that is a good basis for sticking with Slot for another season?

I completely missed the game thank fcuk by the sounds of it

In fainess there is quite a bit of talk among journalists etc and even Kelliher alluded also to the fact he should be given a free pass this season due to the Jota situation. Im inclined to agree also, get champions league for next year and regroup over the summer.

As things stand slot is going nowhere before the end of the seasons and if we get champs league he will be here next year.

Wasn't Klopp a lover of the high line

We would be even worse off but adapt

Just noticed the quote button isn't working so I will continue...

Rafa of Houllier would be made for the Premier league as it is now

    Haven't a clue who I'm responding too so f#ck it lol 😆

Even with United stumbling themselves we're now closer to 10th than 3rd.

3rd in table, down to 7th in table, 30 games between them all, 9 wins between them all , and we have 3 of those wins.

This is why these teams aren't competing for title, so inconsistent.

We only have two PL games in next 5 weeks, might do us some good

Despite our glorious history, the number of league winning managers we have had is few and far between.

Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Klopp, Slot.

Is there a club in England with more league winning managers than us?

there’s no reason to think Slot can’t win the league next season if you totally ignore everything we’ve seen since August.

Watching the Everton Chelsea highlights and if we do get a CL place. you feel alot of it will be down to Sanchez

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭IrishOwl...

Klopp would have to reinvent himself and his style of football if he were to come back to Premier League management. He's obviously capable of doing such a thing, but would he want to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭jones

I genuinely thought the same until today's game. I saw the uptick in performance in Europe and thought yeah we can steady the ship and squeak into 5th, get champions League and go again next season, address squad issues etc. But the stats are just too bad to ignore after today. We're actually getting worse in the league.

I know we know nothing about the dressing room but it looks like one of two things is happening:

    1) either the players have stopped playing for Slot

    or

    2) they are so unfit they are unable to keep up with the pace of the league.

Either way I think we're in end game territory. I don't think we finish top 5 and I'm sure FSG are alarmed at how badly this season has gone even with the mitigations outside Slots control.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,197 ✭✭✭corcaigh07

This is absolute rubbish, we are not even close to defending our league title, the performances on the pitch and off it with Slot have been pathetic. Poor performances haven’t been exclusive to the league either.

I do not see the benefit of hoping Slot squeaks into 5th for this season. Get rid now and actively make an attempt to achieving 5th or higher, it’s inertia otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭hawaii501

He has an excuse ready before every game as well, they had more time to prepare was this week's.

Sick and tired of hearing this along with him not using his squad at all unless he absolutely has to.

Sooner the better he is gone, football is atrocious to watch as well. FSG surely can't wait any longer.

if anyone thinks Slot is being sacked with the team in the CL places and in the QFs of the CL, they are quite simply, delusional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

Zero chance he's gone before the end of the season. Probably quite a good chance he's here next season too.
