Yanks causing controversy in Louth football? Are lockdowns also making a comeback?

Is his point that because the club should be "a-political", Jonna Byrne as a member of Sinn Fein shouldn't be on the board?

Should it be like the army where you aren't allowed join a political party while serving?

Probably not a great idea having TDs heavily involved with football clubs in a decision making capacity. Not specifically because of anything Israel related. Just feels like there are conflicts of interest waiting to happen there.

Politics and football absolutely intertwine, and that’s completely normal. But I don’t think you want people wearing numerous different hats, where the interests may not be the same.

I'm a Drogheda supporter and I agree with Gerry Kelly (the radio presenter in that video) 100%.

A good night for football tonight, the kast game on the awful 3G pitch at the Brandywell.

    Good riddance.

Can't be too disappointed with our loss in Tallaght. We always struggle to there but we played well, went toe to toe with Rovers second half and played some nice stuff. Couple of decent efforts but just didn't create enough.

Rovers strength off the bench helped them get over the line. Lovely second goal and we were caught on our heels for the opener.

For a team that lost a fair chunk of it's squad I thought ye were actually better than last year and really put it up to Rovers while playing some good football. At times in the second half Rovers' composure was very shaky and were very lucky that shot hit the bar at 1-0. For all the youngsters and new players in the Rovers team it took one of the old heads in Aaron Greene to put it beyond doubt with an excellent finish.

Bohs really poor tonight, but for me the Dundalk goal your man heads it out of the keepers hands. Dundalk should have won really.

Comfortable win for the most part tonight bar a few spells at the start of the 2nd half and we really should have scored more than two. Nugent and Turner have been really good this season and it's great to have options like Mata and Keena to bring on. Waterford were bad and look in trouble.

In two minds about the international break now, don't like that it's going to break our momentum but it does give us a chance to get some of our injured like Lennon and Forrester back and have even more options. Also gives Leavy a rest because he's been doing Trojan work for us so far.

Agree. I was very impressed with Dundalk, they had a right good go at Bohs and were unlucky not to get the win, total contrast to Galway last week who defended with ten men for most of the game. Rennie not afraid to make changes but all very like for like. Parsons, Zane, Vaughan, Strods all very similar. I’d have liked to see him go two up top with Hugh Martin and Whelan. Whelan worked tirelessly. Getting very worried about the lack of goals or even the lack of chances we create considering we have so much of the ball. The backwards passing would drive you nuts

Delighted with a point in Derry. Two cracking goals from us and two mistakes from Dennison giving Derry a helping hand.

As an aside, was there a rugby match in Tallaght this week? The markings on the pitch would suggest that this was the case.

A schools final was mentioned at the start of the game in commentary. They said they don't think the pitch has ever been as bad in Tallaght.

Obviously every team would like a good striker but Bohs definitely short there as very little in the way of chances created last night ,a couple of times we had the ball in the box but no shot taken on ,a bit like last season ,defending has improved which has certainly helped in not getting beaten so far ,though we were fortunate not to concede more last night .Dougie seems to be a sick note unfortunately even if it is hardly surprising that is the case ,was a bit of a gamble signing him by all accounts .

Happy with the win v Galway last night. First half I thought we were very good and created lots of chances, should've been more than 1-0 up at half time. Galway make three changes at half time and some tactical tweaks and looked much better second half, arguably had the better of the 2nd half until we grabbed a great second goal - excellent pass from deep by John O'Sullivan with a lovely run , cutback and finish by Greener.

We aren't getting any better, and 2 absolute crackers from drogs to equalise.

Started with no forward this time. Then brought 2 on late in the game.

McClean started on the left side of a back 3 tonight, probably the position closest to what he has been used to, and he was still at fault for a goal.

Don't know where we go from her. The majority of the fans want Lynch out now, but I cant see him being sacked so not sure how this is resolved. His team management and selections almost look like he is trying to get a payoff. Our only hope is this rumour of St Mirrens interest comes to fruition, but they'd be mad.

Sad thing is, we have some excellent players there, if the right manager was in place. I think we are now playing for 4th spot at best.

Green is still a fabulous player even though some write him off because of his age. Victor looks a class player, him and Adam Brennan give Rovers a real attacking threat. Fair play to Galway, they’re a tough team to break down and carry a good threat up front

I said after the end of last season that Dundalk needed to keep Gbemi Arubi because he could keep them up. He's a great young lad and is brave and very hard working with a good football brain. He's still only 21 and is improving all the time in different ways. I know that id he continues to improve then the English teams will come looking for him. Great to see young Sean Spaight coming on and doing well too. We have a very young team with a good spattering of experience too and Horgan is keeping them on the ball. we were many people's tip to go back down but we will fight hard to stay in the Premier Division where we belong. The Bohs fans were excellent last night and created a great atmosphere.

Any tips or where to park for Sligo match ? I’m staying in Clayton hotel, seems like it might be a bit too much of a walk with my family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,818 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

If you've got kids with you I'd recommend Nazareth house across the road from the showgrounds. It's the closest and there's no major road you need to cross on foot. I think it's €2 to park there.

Slightly further away but within walking distance you can also park in wine street car park (Tesco) or the cathedral car park.

yes Leinster Schools senior Cup. Final and reply (Monday) both at Tallaght

For anyone who read the Paul Howard books on the adventures of Ross O’Carroll Kelly, the rugby final being played in a) LOI soccer ground and b) Tallaght would generate enough material for a new book

Drumcondra stand is deadly but shelbourne have been awful. Dundalk well worth their lead, they could have been 3 up and it wouldn’t have been unfair. Feels like I’m still waiting for our season to start , our lads don’t look right. Hope it’s a game of two halves but I didn’t see anything first half to give me hope. Need to drop the back 5 to give us more up top.

Shane Farrell has collapsed here in Drogheda. Looks quite serious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,240 ✭✭✭kksaints

Great win for us tonight and really should have been more as the Sligo keeper made some super saves at least 4 or 5 times. Palmer was excellent and if he can stay fit he's a top quality player. Nugent has been a really good signing and he deserved a goal for his work rate. Breslin came on for McClelland and slotted in perfectly. Scored a lovely goal too.

Sligo did have chances particularly in the first half as we were a little too open but they really need some of their injured players back fast. Top of the league now, which is a fantastic turnaround since the first two matches. Dundalk will be tough on Monday however and Rovers on Friday is a huge match.

Hope Farrell is alright, hate hearing about players collapsing with no-one near them.

Bit disappointed by tonight. Bohs have forgotten how to score. Two clean through 1 on 1s and both were poor.

Without the rock solid defence we'd be in bother.

I want to see more goals from Tierney and Dawson. Must win now on Monday as we are in danger of fading back into the pack.

Strange to say when we are still unbeaten.
