Its amazing how much Chelsea have spent under Blueco and still dont have a half decent goalkeeper. Madness by them.

Its turned into a complete shambles of a champions league race.

United deserve 3rd but the rest are awful at moment

Everton are playing themselves into the champs league conversation. If Liverpool and Chelsea keep going like they are then they have a serious chance.

I think its only paid out to 2 years, something they have in contracts in that he has to be there over a certain period of theb contract to get the full payout. Swear I heard that somewhere, I may ne wrong tho.

Hes completely out of his depth

There's gonna be some scramble for managers in the summer. Pool, Chelsea, Spurs, possibly City and United. Alonso is sitting at home licking his lips right about now.

If United get CL football, Carrick will remain on.

How can Chelsea spend so much money to be so ordinary. Only three top class players in Enzo, Caicedo and Palmer. The rest are nothing special and both the keeper and manager are embarrassing.

It's a very low bar this year given top 5 to qualify and even then it's going to be an uphill task.

Finger crossed Slot gets a new contract

He won the league. It’s getting to decades since a ManU or Arsenal manager did that. That’s the goal. He fookin did it. The improvement from the previous season, with largely the same team, was immense.

Winning the league is tough, defending it is tougher.

Interesting to look at managers who have successfully defended the title in the last 50 years. I might be forgetting someone but I think it’s just Paisley, Ferguson, Jose and Pep.

Dalglish won 3, never defended. Wenger won 3, never defended. George Graham, Brian Clough never successfully defended. Many many more.

So Liverpool were never going to win the league this season.

Plus Liverpool players getting constant reminders that their mate died horribly in the summer can’t help with their drive and intensity, but it’s absolutely more important that we (LFC fans) honour him throughout this season and never forget him. But imo that’s the main reason we’re 5th/6th and not 3rd You can’t just can’t expect that not to impact players in their day job

The team still has big performances in it. Still in the hunt for a couple of trophies. Underdogs for sure, but we’ll see.

Spent close to half a billion and nowhere near contenders all the same.

Looking at the games tomorrow and depending on results Spurs could end up in the bottom 3.

“So Liverpool were never going to win the league this season” - you’ve come to that conclusion based on other managers failing to defend titles in the past? That feels like pretty weak logic, easily said now with 7 games to go after a poor season by defending champions who spent eye-watering money in the summer.

Most people wouldn’t have said ‘they’re never winning it again this year’ - they would have expected Liverpool to challenge, not be 25-30 points off it at the end of the season, which looks very possible now.

On Jota - it’s obviously tragic, and losing a teammate is huge, but can you really use that across an entire season? Where do you draw the line? If Liverpool are average again next year, does that still get used as the main reason?

I don’t think losing away to Brighton today comes down to players having Jota on their minds. If anything, I’d say some fans are thinking about it more than some of the players do at this stage.

Totally agree. Slot did fantastically well last season to win the league. I dont think Klopp would have won it to be honest. Add the fact its difficult to win back to back titles...add the Jota death and this season was always going to be difficult for them. Then you look at the signings and they've been poor bar mabe Ekitile. Wirtz for the money spent has been very poor in the games I've watched him and then the levels of VVD and Alisson has dropped off. Still think Slot wull get them champions league football next season

Is the applause on 20 mins going to be for evermore? Hard for players to naturally get over the grief when they are reminded of it every match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭cgorzy

Did Andrews watch the Champions League during the week and decide he didn’t want any part in that passing football nonsense? Leeds Brentford a terrible match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,162 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Brentford are Stoke mark 2, same colours and **** stadium, and horrible to watch, and stuck mid table.

Utd fans screaming blue murder about the Maguire incident are surely not forgetting the laughable red card and penalty given against Lacroix a few weeks ago with palace 1-0 up 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,727 ✭✭✭caviardreams

I think that's harsh - match tonight was dire but brentford play some decent stuff sometimes - damsgard epecially, outtara, thiago, schade are quality players

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

That’s a fair question and I get what you’re saying. The tributes are obviously well-intentioned, but maybe they’re a distraction now? I don’t know. The players are human, but they’re also professionals. I doubt they’re fully focused for 19 minutes, then lose all composure at the 20th minute and let it affect the rest of their performance. Especially when it’s become a regular thing now. This shouldn’t take anyone by surprise.

The reminders are about showing respect - they’re not really something you can point to as a reason for poor results over the course of a full season imo. It might affect individuals at times, but using it as a main explanation for how the team’s performed overall still feels like a stretch to me. I’m just not buying the ‘this is the difference between 3rd and 6th place’ logic.

Andrews is doing a great job, given resources, but they are a tough watch, the Arsenal/Stoke model , and that soulless stadium , reminds me of the Stoke one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,199 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

How does it work then? Do you need to wait for a bad decision in your favour to be balanced out first before you can complain about one going against you?

well you were delighted when that decision went for utd. Good for the goose and all that
