Big al still a bit salty after last night lol.

Stuart is in the form of his life was Ireland's player of the tournament this 6ns and rightly deserves the Irish 12 spot and is a fine player, but when the dust is settled and the boots are hung up in one of them will be remembered as an Ireland great, a multiple test lion, a world player of the year nominee, league player of the year, and domestic competition winner on two continents. The other will be Stuart McCloskey.

What?! Bundee is arguably the most popular Irish player.

Early signs are that he has reacted positively to losing the 12 jersey to McCloskey, he was good against Scotland off the bench and last night was his best Connacht performance in years.

One more year of a motivated Aki will be a huge asset for us. We have 5 young homegrown centres who will hopefully benefit massively from training with him too.

maybe down there. , but it’s no surprise to any Ulster supporter that once McCloskey got a chance, he raised the performance bar of the Irish 12’s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,864 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

McCloskey is absolutely brilliant and I'm sure would have done a great job if he'd gotten more opportunities earlier in his career, but that doesn't change the fact that Bundee was one of the most important players in the best Irish team of the professional era.

Poor Robbie Henshaws career as Ireland 12 has been quickly forgotten by some.

The last line sounds like something a 9 year old would write.

As a general health warning for this page its important to appreciate Mcloskeys unbelievable form and performances for ireland and not listen to this attempted narrative from some that its a tragedy he wasnt ahead of Bundee for the last 6 years in which Bundee was the best 12 in the world

Trying to troll opposition fans after their team has won is new approach, hopefully it doesn't catch on.

Anyway- few interesting games for us this afternoon, think sharks and Benetton winning is probably best for us. Hopefully we push on to the end of the season but still think we've left too much to do with some silly losses earlier in the season.

Agreed. Murphy has turned Ulster around as has Lancaster at Connacht. I think the difference yesterday was Ulster had a big injury list in key positions

Dexicom. Thank you Ian Madigan during buildup to Glasgow Leinster game. And there was Shane Horgalan who was very positive about Tiernan O'Hallahan. I do love our Leinster friends

It wasn't exactly a first choice connacht 23 either. Missing LH Buckely, Hooker DTM and De Butlier, back row, SHL, scum half, Blade, Devine, center, basically any natural 13, back 3, Hansen. Gilbert, Bolton; could argue thay those 3 start a knockout game. No team is ever at full strength.

From what I've seen so far it's fair to say I was wrong about Lancaster that even though he is a excellent coach and mentor I just didnt see us competing at a high enough level to be in with a chance of a top 8. With 4 tough games left i just dont see us picking up enough points to make it into the top 8. Even if we dont achieve it this season has been an improvement but we are still short of a few players that would make us a definite top 8 team

I think connacht have shown a massive improvement in defence and also in fitness. Especially in the last few months. They havent been coughing up soft tries or giving away lazy penalties. The difference it makes in the final quarter of games will be telling.

Frawley, Connors will be positive additions and think there will be a few more signings which will make a difference. Connacht are crying out for a scott fardy/Brad thorn type signing. Lancaster will leave connacht eventually and they will be in a far better position when that happens.

Looking at the games I think we might end up in a shoot out with Munster for the last spot. Imo we need 14 pts from a possible 25 and a couple of other results to go our way.

Aki was better than McCloskey will ever be. He's been in the final four for world player of the year, Pro 12 player of the year and Ireland player's player of the year in 2024.

Anyway I really don't know why I'm wasting my time, it's clear you just don't like Aki and cannot be in anyway unbiased in a discussion about him.

And recently his performance the other night was incredible and he was great for Ireland when he came on against Scotland.

And like all things it has to move with the times. And today it is very much the Dexcom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,784 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Had hoped for a big response from Bundee this week and delivered. Granted that was a very weak Ulster centre partnership.

Looking at the contest for top 8 in the URC, Munster has a job on its hands. Not saying Connachts is easier but the team with the belief at the moment is coming from the west

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,784 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Have to say 5 points v Ospreys, 5 points v Munster and 5 points v Edinburgh are highly likely plus whatever points gained in SA. Suspect top 4 easily

Jack Carty has confirmed he is retiring at the end of the season. A great servant best of luck to him with everything in the future

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭RonnieL

No surprise - hopefully he can go out on a high. A sound man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,864 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Jack's still playing good rugby but it's probably a good time for him to retire, seems he's quite busy outside of rugby.

Hopefully the Ioane to Ulster rumours are more Jackman bullshit, we need him for another season, after which we will hopefully have a depth chart something like:

    Frawley, Naughton, O'Shaughnessy

I believe that we have 33 senior players confirmed for next season, with question marks over the following 11:

Buckley, Dooley, Lasisi, Aungier, Bealham, Dowling, Hurley-Langton, McCormack, Hawkshaw, Mullins, West

Plus I'd imagine Billy Bohan graduates from the academy a year early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Tommybojangles

I've certainly criticised Carty a lot on here probably more than he deserved but maybe that comes with being the lighting rod of first choice 10 for your team.

A fantastic servant and top top player on his day. Made us all so proud to see a Connacht 10 linign out for Ireland in he 6 nations and World Cup for the first time since elwood. His form in those days was unbelieveable and he was cutting teasm open for fun in the URC. Best memory of him will always be that gamne winning kick against Wasps in the Heineken Cup, back when the pool stage of that competition meant something. Some pints were drank that night

Not Jacks biggest fan, but he was a wonderful servant for Connacht, and had some magic moments.

Can't remember who it was against, but he did an amazing cross field banana kick out to Matt Healy in front of the main stand. Pretty sure it was a European game.

When things clicked for him, he was brilliant. He scored a cracker of a try in the RDS back in the day too.

Unfairly criticized for the Ireland loss against Japan in 2019.

The winning kick against Wasps was like a dream.

Wish him all the best in his retirement. From all accounts, he was due to retire last season, but got talked into one more year. Has played fine this year, and was worth his contract.
