Happy Birthday Dazler on what's probably been the nicest day of the year so far although it wasn't that warm here in Meath today compared to the west.

What a pet day, topped off at 19.2C here after a cool start of 3.7C and cooling down now to 10.6C , finishing the day with a beautiful sunset on the Kerry coast.

Pic taken from Banna Strand looking towards Brandon at 19.35.

Happy birthday Dazler. Class day all around it seems. I got 16c as my highest on the work wagon. Tipping away in my shirt for most of the day. Went over to one of my neighbours house walking about 7:30, around 1k, just walked home, still in my shirt, pleasant night out.

It to 17ºc here was so so nice, definitely boosted the mood for sure

Played that earlier myself, a must on the first day of the year to have a bang of summer off it….

Even a slight shift in wind direction can make a difference at this time of year

    Dublin Airport 2 degrees

    Mace Head 11 degrees

Another beautiful morning in north Longford. Great to be out and about. Had a walk over a few pasture fields and they're still quite moist underfoot. Stock will be in for a while yet, though grass cover is good. Roll on end of fodder season.

Going to enjoy this weekend and get the grass cut before this potential storm on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Beautiful day again today if a bit hazy, plenty of heat in the sun. A few bumble bees wasps and butterflies flying about.

Nice bit of frost out this morning. Mullingar had an almost 20c drop, 16.6 yesterday at 2pm and down to -2.7 at 7am this morning🥶

another warm day tomorrow and then a shock to the system from Sunday onwards with temperatures slightly below average for the most part over the next one to 2 weeks.

Hi apologies I didn't reply to this. It's not our holly tree but I know the person well, I assume it is native but I must get a better look at it some day. I do recall some years taking clippings of it before Christmas and there being little or no berries on it.

    Another fine start in D16

Gorgeous sunny morning. Long may it continue.

Grass frost this morning. Cut the grass on high yesterday - whoops 🤭

Foggy and chilly in North Longford. It was bright and clear when I first went out, but the fog descended quickly. A chilly 3c. Its going to be a nice day when the fog lifts.

Near Ardagh, Longford, I was outside briefly just before dawn and the fog was ascending rather than descending, in that it was foggy at ground level but only to a height of less than two metres. Very dense thick fog now, which I hope clears early enough as I attached the mower to the tractor yesterday evening and I plan to do a high cut of the paddock today. There'll be no grass cutting if the sun does not get to dry the grass.

Grass frost this morning. Ground needs another couple of days drying before cutting the grass.

10C. at the moment. Fog lifting slowly.

Beautiful weather today and yesterday with mostly sun and nice and calm. It still feels quite chilly to me - not experiencing any of this reported warmth - but that suits me perfectly for working in the garden and getting out for a walk. It's ideal for me.

It's a fortnight since I cut my grass first, and I'm unsure about doing the second cut yet. It really hasn't grown much at all, but maybe I shouldn't waste the dry weather if it will be showery for another week. Ideally I think it would be better left til next weekend.

Glorious weather. Got the lawn cut and went for a long cycle. Great to have clothes on the line too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

easily the best day of the year here in Meath, I celebrated with a 99, something I rarely eat! Hoping to get the lawn cut tomorrow but garden is still a bit on the damp and muddy side.

Played 18 holes of golf today, first time this year the full 18 were opened. It felt a lot warmer than around 10c under blue skies and it was very calm too. Absolutely heavenly.

There's been a great buzz of lawnmowers anywhere i moved about to today. Not too far admittedly, but a lot of local lawns cut. I helped an elderly neighbour empty some kerosene he had, 5 × 25l drums into his tank. He had them since before Christmas he told me. He got them in Derrylin, at the old price he laughed. Keep me going along with the turf until the summer he said with a smile.

Cut our grass but left it longer than normal in case of mud .

Amazing what a few days of sunny weather does for your psyche . Recharged for a bit now .
