Guinea Fowl. It tasted just like a roasted pheasant!

Congealed pigs blood mixed with oatmeal then seasoned. Popular in some place called Clonakilty.

    Injeera in Ethiopia.

Nearest thing to carpet underlay you'll ever be served up on a plate - great for soaking up all their delicious curries and stews, but absolutely revolting 🤢

Oh no 😆, that's a meal I've always wanted to try but I don't know anyone that would eat that kinda food with me. The greyish colour isn't very appealing but all topping look mouthwatering.

Is it just the texture or did you not like the taste either?

Quare name but great stuff, love it with their spiced stews.

I was weirded out being served alligator sauce piquant one day by a proud coonass. It turned out to be really nice but then he really is a hell of a cook.

Nice try but there's no pig's blood in Clonakilty black pudding.

I love black pudding but Im not a fan of white pudding. My mother was the opposite she loved white pudding but not the black. So any time we ate breakfast out somewhere, we'd do a swap.

The mention of clonakilty reminded me of that.

Toppings were amazing! Stews and curries, cooked in front of us on a fire made from twigs on a mud hut floor - how they do it I do not know but they were always delicious! (The times we were there were always a fasting period like Advent in the lead up to their Christmas, can't remember the name unfortunately, so always vegetarian/vegan, which I was always grateful for!)

The injera - texture, look, taste, feel, everything about it was revolting!!! Luckily they were well attuned to the vagaries of European (lack of) tastes, and usually did rice for us instead (and ate the injera themselves!!)

The grey look scared me a bit but I just imagined the texture to be like a slightly more dense pancake. I'd still be willing to try it 😋.

Now on the otherhand - I seen a video of a Nigerian/German family where the mother served her kids dinner. She scooped out a big ball of shiny dough thingy alongside some other stuff. I looked online and I think it's called Fufu. Don't think I'd be interested in tasting something that looks like a giant ball of chewing gum 🫤

Nice, tongue when done right is a superb cut. I smoke an Ox tongue once or twice a year, it's a long process but when it's done, it's amazing. Cheek is also another winner for slow cooking, makes amazing tacos.

Hmm… I'd love to try injera, and all of the other Ethiopian foods. None available here. And it doesn't seem like a particularly easy thing to make I suppose?

    Is injera very sour?

Really?! I always thought that it was pig blood… Hmm.

Why though? Is it down to economics? I don't even know if there would be any taste difference, I suppose not.

Beef blood powder according to the ingredients.

Oh… didn't know powdered blood was a thing. It sounds very commercial and unauthentic :/

A matter of practicality I’d assume. I remember my mother making black pudding when I was a kid. We’d kill a pig and the blood would get harvested. You obviously had a time window and the clock started ticking as son as the slaughter happened. I can’t remember exactly but it wouldn’t have been sitting much more than a day. Much better with with commercially produced powder for volume production. Home slaughter has been banned now. It’s a pity but there was a lot of work involved with it too and you didn’t have the luxury of leaving things till the following day if you got sick of it! 😃
