I might have missed it but where is it mentioned you only need 9 correct answers to pass the numerical?

Personally, I heard that rumour from reading through the last 4 years of EO threads and Reddit. Several people over the years have said it. I know that people who have gone through the process and are already in will be able to clarify it.

No one has ever seem to question it..

I don’t trust Reddit as much but a few said it will depend on the bell curve how low the pass standard is.

I read through all the four years of EO threads and no one has ever said they failed the numerical. A lot found it tough though. Therefore the number to pass must be low or people are doing better than they think.

Of course, not everybody who participates in the board's threads are going to disclose how they got on with the tests.

I know a lot of people did fail the maths for the specialist and other competitions at other grades as the maths counted towards the OOM and the questions were very hard.

Planning to do the math exam either late tonight or tomorrow morning. So just hoping to God there's enough basic questions to get the first handful done in the time.

2 coworkers failed the numerical in the last comp so it can happen.

I passed last time but dreading this one.

I failed the last one too so not sure where they got that info from. Think people are over thinking the whole thing, what will be will be and it’ll be about 6 weeks before you even get your results.

@Glitteringstar may I ask what you scored in the numerical test last time 2024 competition?

My father is an EO and just told me it was spoken today in the office by an AP to a CO that only 9 is needed for a numerical and not to get “worked up” about it. I do feel people already in the CS have quite an advantage with the written, SJ, and numerical tests.

If you are just "passing" any of the tests you would want some very high scores in other tests. You need to have a high enough OOM to get called for interview.

I think my numerical was pretty strong. Is it just pass/fail or is it weighted for the OOM if you do well?

Well done! It’s only SJ and verbal for OOM. Written is scored part of interview. Score of numerical doesn’t count, just need to pass it.

Again, don't know if this is same for this panel but with previous panels, the qualifying/pass score for Numerical Reasoning was 390 out of 800 (49%). The score you got in the Numerical Reasoning was not included in your overall score which was used to assign you an OOM.

@kevinmcm I totally blew the written exam, did the first part which was relatively straightforward BUT rather than clicking next I clicked submit DOH so I basically only completed half to the assignment!

You didn’t blow it. I did the same thing and emailed them. They unsubmitted it for me with the correct remaining time and told me to belt away and finish it. No hassle at all.

I can’t remember I just know I failed it. It’s luck of the draw really, I don’t get worked up and just tackle it, have the advantage of being in the CS for 2 years so I felt I’d be better suited this time around.

I thought the numerical was piss easy but then again I always score best in that for some reason despite it only being fail/pass

@OlgaC I didnt see a 'Next' Button in the written test, just submit button, now thinking did i miss something?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,339 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Just done numerical, answered all but 1, 2 or 3 guesses so hoping I passed, more concerned with the verbal reasoning, felt harder than last time.

Is there anyway I can sit these tests for someone else? Or is it impossible with the camera setup?

I answered just 8 right to see and the public jobs said it was a passing grade. Hope that helps

On the numerical, some of them are so obvious that they make you rethink.

Thank you, that I will do 😁

A friend of mine is doing these. I presume you can use a calculator for the numerical ?

Yes you are allowed to use a hand held calculator which you need to show as part of the room scan before you do the test
