I see Utd are going to make a few pound from the likely Greenwood sale in the Summer!👏👏

There's only one Bruno….. or maybe two:

Guimaraes & Camavinga ( supposidely looking to leave RM) would solve our middle of the park issues

Camavinga can be Shaw's replacement in the treatment room now that he's playing regularly. Only just turned 23 a few months ago and has spent his fair time in the treatment room.

Guimarães is a massive yes from me though. Couldn't see Newcastle selling to us unless the player forced a move.

Bruno G 29 early next season, he's a mighty player but wouldn't want to be paying a lot for him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,679 ✭✭✭BenK

But we need to replace a combative Brazilian midfielder who was close to 30 when signed for a big fee and on big wages. Fits the bill perfectly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,600 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Only played 1098 minutes in the league last season, or roughly 12 full games out of 38.
He's surpassed that with 1142 so far this season to be fair.

For the 24/25 season, 2 hamstring injuries keeping him out for close to 100 days
A seperate knee injury keeping him out for 45 days

    image.png

    So far this season

    image.png

So that's the hamstring, knee and ankle all keeping him out for good periods over the last 2 seasons

Not the kind of player we need to bring in

The video doesn't explain an awful lot from what I heard unless I missed something definitive. None the wiser after it. 13 minutes to say not very much at all.

I'm not sure if it is still the case now but I know a couple of years ago the YouTube algorithm changed to "favor" videos over 10 minutes long. It would push them over shorter videos into people's feed.

    More views. More money.

A lot of content creators at the time made jokes about having to drag their videos out over the 10 min mark. Seems to be what is going on here. Howson loves to waffle anyway so it's no work to him. He'd stay on for another hour talking.

€80m for a 28 year old, 29 in November seems like an un-ineos type deal tbh. An uneos deal.

If I could buy one midfielder it would be Szoboszlai, but obviously that ain't happening.

Guimaraes for the right price would be a great signing. I don't want older players but 28 isn't exactly over the hill, if he is in the 50m range I would snap him up. If it is getting into 70/80m range then no.

I do hope that our targets aren't just whoever gets named on the Saturday Social PL top midfielder list of the week. Sure anyone could tell you that Guimaraes, Tonali and Anderson are good players, I would expect a little more from the scouts than that. We need 2 or even 3 center midfielders so its going to have to be a couple of Lammens type signings in there as well.

And if we want to know if anything has actually changed at board level, then the "when" of this will reveal a lot. We all know we need midfielders so if the club aren't already working on the deals now, if they don't plan to have deals done before the world cup, then that will be a worrying sign for me.

I do think our top priority CM is going to be very well known, and likely a pl player. We can't afford to miss with that signing. Even a second CM signing kinda needs to be a lock too.

But if we are looking at a 3rd cm signing? I would expect them to show some more nous from the scouts tbh.

I would have concerns over his age, cause he ain't gonna be less than 70m imo.

But I also think there is a good argument for signing an older, experience CM, especially a leader when come summer our starting point in midfield is going to be Mainoo and Ugarte. We cant just add a bunch of younger players in, imo. Similar to how I think Cunha and Mbeumo were signed as 'now' experienced players cause we had to replace the players that should have been in that bracket (Rashford, Antony, Sancho)

Casemiro was just 1 year older at 30 when he joined. (as Bruno G will be 29 early season)

I don't think there's much point going down the Bruno G route. Newcastle are not going to do a deal with Utd at a reasonable price.

It'll be far closer to 100m than it will be to 60m they'll look for.
If we are going for one of their midfielders I think I'd prefer to go for Tonali, but again they'll look for crazy money because it's Utd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,397 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I'm not so sure. His contract expires in 2 years, and his last extension was 3 years ago. Newcastle need to be talking to him now and they won't want a repeat of the Isak messing around. If he quietly says he wants to move on, then perhaps they decide its best to be professional and come to a solid agreement with United. He will still command a big fee, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a stupid fee.

But thats the skill of negotiation I guess, lets hope that United have gotten better at it.

I don't think his age is much of an issue. His injury record is good and we can't have a midfield full of young players hoping they develop into leaders in a few years. Bruno G would give you that same leadership and determination you get from Licah. He's got goals and assists so could replace Casemiro in that department.

I think he's someone whose got that attitude and determination that he'll drive and motivate others in the team to perform and he's a player that the crowd can feed off his energy to get the atmosphere going.

The problem is that Newcastle seem to see Utd as some sort of rival.
I can't see them doing a reasonable deal with us say in the same way they might do with City or Pool.

I'd be very impressed if our guys managed to negotiate a deal with them for 50/60m but I wouldn't hold out much hope and I certainly would not want much time spent on it to the detriment of other deals.

Angelo Stiller is an interesting one given his release clause.

That Sander Berge guy we were linked with previously but ended up at Fulham, looked right good against us recently. Might not be a bad shout, he seemed to have good presence in the middle of the pitch. Very tall too for the set piece element we will lose with Casemiro going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭scottser

Berge is a good shout, as is Gomes at Wolves and Fernandez at West Ham if they go down. I'm not sure where all the talk of Tonali or Guimaraes from Newcastle comes from - they'll want huge money from us. I don't even rate Tonali either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,304 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Fernandez would be the one I would push for. Think he is going to be a star.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,550 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

We should stick in an offer for Szoboszlai for the craic. Decent bid, £70m. Stir the pot 😈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,125 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

Tonali is a cracking player but you would have to have doubts about his personality….could turn out as a disaster waiting to happen.

the main takeaway (for me) is that he might be out for the rest of the season.

we defo need to CB in the summer.

i read somewhere recently that real are eyeing him up.

i just hope we arent the fools who finance it by buying camavinga

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭scottser

Yeh the gambling thing is a red flag. And he comes across like a bit of a dick generally.

I wouldn't bother dealing with Newcastle. Like Isak and Liverpool they would take us to the cleaners. In relation to De Ligt, he was very injury prone at Bayern too. We definitely need another CB in the Summer because Martinez can go the same way.
