I thought Eamon Fitzmaurice made a complete ass of himself last night and played the man and not the ball

someone from the canteen maybe? I never saw or heard of him in my life yet he has been given this programme and is beyond useless, boring and inept. Soft, stupid questions a child would ask. As a result I havent looked at The Tonight Show since he has been presenting it on a regular basis, the first one or two viewings were enough. (I just look at this thread!).

I get too annoyed at the way politicians are left of the hook in this country for everything! Ditto Claire Byrne with Micheal Martin yesterday (going by all accounts as I didn't listen to that either :-)) Its infuriating. Pat Kenny will be sorely missed as he had an edge that none of these presenters have, except Sarah McInerney perhaps? Which means politicians just keep getting away with stuff with no accountability.

John Lee is the Editor of The Irish Daily Mail, he's been a panelist on a few programmes across TV and Radio including Tonight in the past. He is married to a FF's Lorraine Clifford-Lee, she is a senator and an unsuccessful candidate at local and general elections.

As for Newstalk Claire was given Micheal for her first day on the job, you'd think she want to at least leave the newspapers with something to write about.

Both Tonight and Claire should have to now interview each of the party leaders, too often do we see and hear light interviews with the Taoiseacht and Tainiste, followed by no rebuttal from the opposition parties.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Gibbons is a pompous prick. Fair play to Fitzmaurice for standing up to him

Richard Chambers in the presenting seat tonight.

You'd have to wonder if he's talented enough to front a panel programme.

I've fallen out of the habit of watching this show now. I probably would go back watching if either of the Claire's started presenting again. None of the stand ins so far do it for me.

The young journalist on the right complaining that Ireland doesn't stand for the actions of ICE.

Presumably she's forgotten about all the fires in refugee centres here with most going without charges and the various violent protests whenever an IPAS Centre is proposed in an area.

I was hoping he would have quizzed the SD one on their statement yesterday that they would be able to have free GP care for everyone by 2030.

A GP was interviewed on Newstalk and basically said this was unrealistic and unworkable.

decent again this week. Maybe a potential permanent host?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭Isthisthingon?

I find him a bit arrogant and the mask slips very quickly on topics he has an opinion on.

He is a much better polished presenter then the last few I will give him that.

I've been following "After the Flood" on VM1 no Mondays at 10pm.

It finished last Monday and I was curious to see what is replacing it.

It's a new series called Monday with Gavan Reilly.

Gavan and guests break down the weeks political diary, key Cabinet issues, major stories shaping the national agenda, and the impact of upcoming decisions.

The Tonight Show continues on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as usual.

Good discussion tonight, Boyd Barrett would do your head in!

VMTV have been given 3m+ from the CnaM for more news coverage. I assume this is one of the "new" shows, the Week in Review returned a few weeks ago.

He's off his trolley or he hasn't an ounce of sense inside that head of his.

I just don't particularly like him

He says it won't be confrontational, but conversational.

Of course his promo he excuses the government!

It was be a dreadfully smug and dull show.

Funded by the CnaM. I knew cutting the Tonight show down would get them 3m from the CnaM. easy pickings.

Strange because only a few years ago VMTV axed Monday night edition of The Tonight Show. I suspect the cash injection from the public to VMTV might have help with VMTV's appetite.

It only took them 7 months to realizes the show went off the air. And just a month after that nice grant given to them from the public.

He goes on about being more of a conversation and really is selling the idea that it is different to Tonight and other CA shows. (IMO most shows have become tiresome conversations with the same panelists).

Interesting he watch WWE perhaps if the just sat down and had a conversation more people might start watching it! He quoted a guy I went to college with "Yeah, so is Coronation Street and EastEnders… you know they’re all scripted too, right?" Indeed but perhaps if they were less confrontational I might start watching again !

Poor auld what's her name is just a forgot speck of a presenter you know the one she took over from the Frontline and that other show!

They really are messing around with the format of this nightly slot. Feels almost like they reduced the number of weekly shows to get rid of Claire Brock and Ciara Doherty and now they are ramping it back up slowly with this show, same slot same presenter. Way too much change to want to tune in anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,052 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

I thought Brock and Doherty were good presenters on the show.

Always assumed it was their own decision to leave.

so I have heard Monday is very similar to group chat.

Nice to see the Former Deputy Chair of RTÉ on the panel, wonder if he will ever answer any questions about his time in RTÉ.

First Episode of Monday doesn't make VMTV ONE's top twenty getting less then 70K behind mid-week episodes of Ireland AM.

Yikes. I suppose it was hardly going to set the world on fire. These late-evening political programmes just seem so irrelevant. At least Question Time on BBC has the audience element.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭RoTelly

If he was going after the Q&A/Frontline/Claire Byrne/Upfront audience then he should have got an audience in.

Gavan Riley has been given a big opportunity here.

He previously got axed from Newstalk after presenting his own radio programme.

I'm not sure the quality of his interviewing has improved since then.

Christ.... Coleman should have stopped that shouting match.
