Not optimistic tonight, we can't beat a spurs 3rd team at home so Gala will be a huge task, i was there on Sunday and was very disappointed, the whole atmosphere was pretty bad to, very flat

I heard yesterday the president of Gala has agreed to split a 5 million bonus between the team if they get through tonight. Extra motivation for them against us.

Liverpool are a mediocre football team right now. We very likely will concede tonight because we keep conceding silly goals so you’re asking a team playing with 10.5 players to win at an elite level where they have to score 3 goals to progress.

There’s no fairytale ending to this year, imo.

I'd love just one more tie where we are massive underdogs under the Anfield lights against PSG and allow the manager one KPI where there is a season on season improvement.

We'll need every penny if we fail to finish top 5 also.

For a long time this season, and it is moot now given what followed, I asked myself a number of what ifs in relation to sliding doors moments this season.

If Hugo had kept his top on and been available for Palace away or if Kerkez had just cleared the ball down the pitch with his bad foot in stoppage time in the same game.

Would momentum have papered over the cracks a little longer?

I’d feel more hope if we added a few players in the Jan window but even if we win tonight it’s going to be very hard against PSG.

I know Galatasaray can't travel so home supporters get the full stadium....but still....haven't seen availability for a knockout CL game like this in years. Maybe the Porto home leg when we'd won 5-0 away but this is a tie in the balance and there's plenty of tickets going and sale dropped to a single previous credit

Crazy how quickly it turns on its head

And that's ok, progress, achievements aren't zero sum.

There are those out there that would rather Ireland hadn't qualified for Euro 2012 because we got battered by the best teams in Europe.

Hopefully the team put PSG out of their minds completely.

the last time stuff like this happened was in the hodgson days

If they cant find it in themselves to win tonight and get through in front of only an Anfield crowd then we don't deserve to even get CL football next ywar.

Imagine losing tonight and getting knocked in front of a Liverpool only crowd.

They should all be fined if it happens

Nah there were definitely similar in the early Klopp days

Sevilla at home remember the mad score draw? Didn't sell out and didn't require any credits. Then Maribor at home was selling tickets on the door I think in the same group, again for general sale no credits needed. That would have been around the time of the new main stand opening but before obviously the Annie Road end expansion

Burnley is in my head as another that didn't sell out a couple of seasons ago and Chelsea in Klopp's last season dropped to all members

It's not as bad as that yet, you still haven't got the game tonight going to all members, but if it were a group game I'd say it would and we're likely not far off that. Europa League/Conference League next season and we'd see another drop off I'd say. The group games a couple of seasons ago were grim for atmosphere, Union SG, LASK and Toulouse

    & RTE & Premier 1

Actually seems like there's a not insignificant number of Galatasaray fans around, not sure if it's UK-based fans but a good few groups with scarves speaking Turkish so who knows they likely wouldn't have found it that hard to get a ticket but if it's just a few dotted around the place then likely little impact. But wearing scarves is an interesting move when you're banned

    RTE also have it.

We could well go through tonight. The inconsistency of the team means that every time we think things are at rock bottom and Slot has to go there is a mini revival where things seem to improve in the short term - in terms of results, not performances.

I was nervous before the Spurs game as I expected a backlash from them after their previous game. Gala don't have a great away record. I think we'll win this one.

I was listening to the Second Captains Monday podcast earlier. Rory Smith and Richard Jolly both felt it was about 55/45 Slot stays beyond the summer. They raised some interesting points.

Firstly, Slot is a real company man and easy to manage from the club's perspective. They'll hope he can have a good end to the season and make the decision to keep him on easier because that's their preference.

Secondly, if he is to be replaced then you have to be very confident that the new guy will be better. The clamour for Alonso is mostly based on his legacy at the club and I doubt many fans watched much of his Leverkusen team when they won the Bundesliga. Is he definitely better than Slot? I'm not sure personally. And if not Alonso, then who else is a step up.

If Liverpool continue to play the way they are however, and the fans start voting with their feet, then there is only one outcome.

I'll go mad if Slot picks a team tonight that doesn't have an actual RB starting at RB, and doesn't have Szobozlai playing in midfield.

It's not that quick..it's been around 6 months since we lost 6 games in 7 or whatever it was…

He does come across as quite the company man alright, and he's a pretty direct communicator even if he doesn't really say much of quality. It's always full of spoofers at the top of a company except for a few key decision makers so they all probably get on great.

The fact that fans are not turning up, and/or making their feelings known in the stadium is a bit of an end of the road situation. It's easy to ignore online fans as you can pick and choose what you want to hear, but I would expect if we can't get through tonight it will be a cacophony in the stadium, and the club nearly always listens to the game-day punters in the end.

For the game itself I expect Gala will be well up for it, and we are in the habit of breaking other teams losing streaks this season. Team really need to turn up tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,191 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Shouldn't they be stopped from entering the stadium?

    Their supporters are banned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

How do you tell who their fans are?

Assuming that they are not wearing colours, racial profiling? Very dangerous path to go down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,883 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I doubt anyone is suggesting that!

If they have scarves at the ground then obviously refuse them entry but I'd imagine they're not that dumb. Plenty will have got Liverpool gear or a half and half scarf.

As long as they don't celebrate or bring attention to themselves

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,611 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Might as well give him the job for life so! If they can't see how poor we are and how far we have fallen, then they'll never see it. There's always a risk in changing the manager, but, the bigger risk here is to do nothing, let Slot roll into next season and the malaise continues, and sure why would they even change then if that happens!

So been going through a few pages as not been on for a while and my god this thread went pure muk. With some saying we should get Gerrard or Gerrard because of there connection to the club those who were saying it have you seen there managerial career my god.

As for people dimishing Slot with the premier league title while yes it was a Kloop team he was the manager who had to coach and do everything. It like saying we could have gotten any manager (Dyche, Ange, Santo) and would have won the league. Maybe Santo I think he could do well at a big club.

We had some bad seasons under Klop the year after we won the League and his final year. Plenty on here wanting him gone before the end of the season.

Now if we loose tonight then I think Slot leaving straight away could happen but I am hoping we win and go on and get CL football next year though PSG next round and City in the FA Cup would be highly unlikely

What a hypocritical post, you are forever whinging and crying in every thread if anyone dares criticise Arsenal or have a dig at them, saying this place is worse than twitter. And here you are coming into the liverpool thread with a smart assed comment.

I'm sure the football people at the club are fully aware of how bad things have become. I suppose they are hoping that things can improve.

I don't think they will, I think it's gone too far the wrong way. But I'd still hold some he can turn things around. I really like Slot, I think he's a good guy.
