Absolutely, but to be fair it is nothing new. How much cross-channel racing, other than Cheltenham and Aintree ever got a full Irish presentation and commentary team from any broadcaster? In the 1980s and 1990s RTE broadcast UK racing on Sports Stadium and it was just a direct relay of Grandstand’s coverage, they would pull away at the race result and that would be it, they’d cover some other sport until it was time for the next race.

And nothing to stop RTÉ doing that for the Winter Olympics coverage but sure that's another argument for another thread.

Just wanted to clarify my views on the CnaM public subvention to Virgin Media TV (And this goes for all media organizations)

    1. If public money's are to be given to independent media outlet then it must all be account for, having worked with community groups, everything has to be account for when dealing with auditors that the council send, this isn't for 3million euro of tax payers money.
    2. The government must consider what is the best course, do they directly funding the media with grants or do they create a news organisation that the independent media can tap into, an PA or Reuters type organisation, but as a semi-state body.
    3. No public money to independent media, in the case of Virgin Media there is a case to be made that they are a large company and should provide some public service to the country, do we develop a separate public service tax on them that can be spread across the media sector, which would be administered by such companies to avoid any political pressure.

If the Week in Review is simply the same format as before, then how does it qualify for this money?

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I assume the VMTV4 ISL coverage is simple an ISL translation of the commentary rather than an ISL commentating, but is this necessary for sport? It's a visual event, there are graphics for all parts of the game.

Why didn't VM just put the earlier Champions League game on a different channel to the later game, when there was always a chance of extra time? They've now switched it to the player, instead of taking a decades old episode of A Touch Of Frost off the air, on VM3. Bloody hell..

And if you wanted to see the Chelsea match, which was due on that Play channel, you'll now miss at least the first 20 minutes until the Bodo match finishes, with penalties an outside possibility, as Sporting are 4-3 up.

Oh I actually misheard him. I thought he said the player. I forget that Play Channel exists, because I have Sky, and it's not on it.

Well you can relax and watch the Arsenal match, both Chelsea and City are fkd, Chelsea conceding 2 and City one, with the captain Silva sent off.

Appears to be the case, and that is a shame. Who wants to listen to a group of people who are all quite clearly of the same political mindset discuss the issues of the day? If they had a special guest each week who was in opposition to the panel, or an expert on a topic they were discussing, then it would have made the show into something unique and worth watching.

I don't think it was getting much of an audience. Are VMTV doing any podcasts anymore?

My view is that it started as a podcast and was decent, but then they changed it to be TV show first which meant the podcast format suffered.

And also, they used record it on a Wednesday afternoon to be shown on Wednesday nights and published as a podcast on Thursdays, meaning the news was pretty out of date in some instances.

They have rugby and sports ones, but I'm not sure about politics. Attracting and maintaining an audience for politics pods appears to be a big challenge for them.

I can't see them switching away from Newcastle v Barcelona tonight if that goes into Extra Time. It is still bonkers that they don't utilize their other channels for these scenarios.

No extra time tonight, matches all anticlimactic in the end, all four over by 55 minutes mostly.

More of the same with the new Gavin Reilly current affairs show. I can't see it lasting very long.

They will have to replace it, in fairness to RTÉ their Monday night line up of Docs is really too strong for a politcal chat show to compete with, even if Gavin thinks that it fills the void left by RTÉ's Frontline.

DId you hear his promo, where he declares, we'll look back at 'The Week in Politics'. Naughty, Gavin.

Repeated at 11 tonight on 2 which might be more suitable.

Is there a Virgin Media Play TV channel? It's not on Virgin Media's TV platform either

It pops up on the VM Play app from time to time, usually when they've multiple matches.

The Chase 24/7 now a channel on VM Play. I guess that it was inevitable it was going to happen. Id imagine they'll start to copy a lot of itv's fast channels over the next while.
