Just a refresher about land grabbing Israel.

No but you have constantly demonstrated an inability to criticise what they do. And this "tiny country" has nuclear weapons and unwavering support from the US and other countries. These aren't some plucky underdogs.

The situation in the Straits seems to be a lot more complicated that much of the media coverage would suggest. Iran is apparently continuing to ship oil out at the rate of about a million barrels a day, about 60% of normal, plus they exported 2 million a day during February knowing the war was coming. They've also tripled their natural gas exports. Needless to say, the US can't or won't lift a finger to impede this to avoid upsetting the markets further.

They've also done deals with India (and probably also China) to let tankers through. I suspect that's what the French and Italians are angling for already.

Criticism of a nation that is an apartheid state, which constantly steals land that doesn't belong to them and is guilty of numerous war crimes and ethnic cleansing if not outright genocide and who acts as an aggressor nation to all around it isn't "demonisation".

I think the main reason they won't touch those crude exports from Iran is that most tankers are now identifying as Chinese owned or crewed. Sink one of them and all rare earth get cut off.

a major military force is constantly launching attacks

Well, if we're all going to stick to what's actually happening and avoid "bizarre fantasies", Hezbollah have not been attacking Israel constantly (there has been a ceasefire since 2024) and I'd hardly call them a "major military force". They have significant military hardware I'm aware of (tanks, aircraft, navy, ballistic missiles, launchers etc.).

Of course, I'd agree that they should not be attacking Israel - but I understand why they are doing it. Israel shoud also not be attacking Lebanon - but i understand why they are doing it.

Understanding what is going on and why is a lot better than shooting first and asking later. At least the French are trying to get negotiations going (and Israel is stalling). But once the US has finished with Iran, they will not countenance Israel continuing to pound Lebanon.

    Haaretz:

A round of direct talks between Israeli and Lebanese representatives that was set to take place in the coming days has been delayed, after Israel back-pedalled from a French proposal for a broad diplomatic agreement between the two countries, a source told Haaretz.

Another source said that Jerusalem is still reviewing the offer, according to which Lebanon would formally recognize Israel in return for a halt to Israeli strikes and an IDF withdrawal to the five positions it has held in southern Lebanon since the November 2024 cease-fire. The source added that Netanyahu remains undecided about the French proposal.

Officials who've spoken to Haaretz expect American patience for the war in Lebanon to run out once the "main" war in Iran is over. Lebanese flexibility, they believe, is also likely to fade by then, which means the window of opportunity for negotiations is limited in any case.

The problem is that Lebanon don't control Hezbollah, so how can they negotiate on their behalf.

    An illegal success.

That notion seems to be like telling Ukraine to let Russia keep Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimea. Whilst it might end the war (for now), I doubt many would see it as a "success". And of course, once acceded, nothing to stop Russia annexing more of Ukraine (possibly further afield too) in the future. Likewise with Israel.

    Its a slippery slope.

The recent episode of Louis Theroux meeting the settlers showed a Rabbi saying that Israel should conquer neighbours including Lebanon.

I wonder what’s next in the Trump playbook? Seems like he is stuck between a rock and a hard place, no allies, afraid of invading, he has to get out.

Did you ever think, just for one second, why so many people demonise Israel?

People demonise Israel because they see

    • an unfettered army committing war crimes by the day
    • a State that is comfortable issuing orders to slaughter its own citizens
    • a State that is committing Genocide and has exterminated 50,000 women and children
    • a State that has killed over 250 journalists in Gaza and still refuses entry for the International Press
    • a State that turns a blind eye or worse to the Settlers who are raping, looting, stealing and killing daily
    • a state that is illegally occupying land that is not theirs plus the constant grab for more land that is not theirs
    • a State headed up by an Alleged War Criminal
    • a State that is dragging all of its citizens into World Pariah Status - including those that abhor what their Govt.is doing

No, Israel is not perfect - but just for once, you might actually condemn their imperfections.

And for the record, the list above is off the top of my head. If I really thought about it, it'd be twice as long at least.

And every single bullet is justifiable and corroborated.

Iran alerting attacks will be commencing on US owned industries. A couple of days ago they provided a list of the tech companies who have connections to the US military.

The problem of being in a war zone. Three Ghanians were wounded just over a week ago. UNIFIL doesn't know who caused it (yet), there was apparently heavy fire going on, seems to have been collateral damage.

The Nepalese contingent had a shelter destroyed a couple days ago, nobody injured. Israel stands accused by UNIFIL and Lebanon.

The French were attacked on three separate occasions yesterday, both they and Lebanon blame Hezbullah. On two of them, the French shot back. No further details that I've noticed.

Both UNIFIL and the Lebanese government are extremely displeased with Hezbullah right now for thinking this would be a perfect time to get involved in the Iran/Israel conflict and drawing Israeli response.

Don't forget the 'settlers' killing kittens and the IDF sniping sheep. I saw a video earlier of the 'settlers' setting a Palestinian person on fire but I'm not going to repost that.

Oh and how could I forget, 'settlers' bludgeoning animals to death on a farm. The posters here who make excuses for these people would do well to at least look at these videos, or even better meet them to see how deranged so many of them are.

I wasn't aware that any UNIFIL unit has (so far) been attacked by the IDF. I had, I think correctly, thought that all the recent attacks were by Hezbollah.

The IDF has form for attacking UN positions - a few months back they got the hump when UNIFIL troops downed one of their drones. They pouted and then directed tank fire at the UNIFIL position.

But yes - totally agree. Hezbollah are dragging Lebanon down into the depths. I know its a very politically tricky situation but Lebanon seems to have at least been trying to get rid of them.

It's really something out of European colonialism in its darkest chapters.

Separately, aftermath of US/Israeli airstrikes on Isfahan. The population is 2 million, 3.8 million in metropolitan area.

I was in Isfahan, it's an utterly amazing place and, like I said before, the people there like everywhere else I was in Iran were just so kind to me.

Foreign FM Araghchi is playing a blinder so far.

Some Gulf states hosting US forces may be covertly encouraging the slaughter of Iranians, Iran’s foreign minister has claimed in a thinly-veiled attack on Saudi Arabia.

Abbas Araghchi demanded clarification on reports that Mohammed bin Salman was in regular private conversations with Donald Trump, urging the US president “to continue hitting the Iranians hard”.

Araghchi was responding to the second US media report in a week claiming the Saudi crown prince’s public opposition to the US attacks on Iran did not reflect his private position. “Stances should be promptly clarified,” he said in a post on X after stating that hundreds of civilians had been killed in US-Israeli attacks, including more than 200 children.

Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s supreme national security council, issued an appeal directed at Muslim populations in the Gulf states urging them to ask themselves which side they were on in the war and why no Islamic country had stood by the Iranian people.

Defending Iran’s attacks on Gulf states, he said: “Are we being asked to stand idly by while US bases in your countries are being used to attack us? The confrontation today is between America and Israel on the one hand, and the Muslim Iran and the forces of resistance on the other.”

As usual mealy mouthed soundbites and no follow through

UK and allies 'gravely concerned' as Israel launches ground offensive in Lebanon

The UK has released a joint statement with Canada, France, Germany and Italy after Israel launched a ground operation in Lebanon.

The countries say they are "gravely concerned" by the escalating violence in the country.

They call for meaningful engagement by Israeli and Lebanese representatives to negotiate a sustainable political solution.

A significant ground offensive would have devastating humanitarian consequences, they warn, adding that it could lead to a protracted conflict.

Change "Lebanon" for "Gaza" and we've just gone back two years. Deja vu. Rinse and repeat without doing a tap about it.

The UN is pretty displeased with the near daily ceasefire violations and killing of civilians. Over 100 civilians, including 16 children in the first 10 months of the “ceasefire”

The UN has also recorded the abduction of 19 Lebanese civilians by the IDF.

Why is the killing of children by Israel not considered a violation of the ceasefire for which there are no consequences?

There will be no consequences for Israel. They will still enjoy favoured trading partner status with the EU. Still play international sport. Still sing at the Eurovision.
