Killed by a late goal again and it was always gonna be Hickey. Good value for a point again in an away game but we just aren't taking our chances. Wolfe missed an almost open goal from 5 yds FFS.

Very poor from us in Inchicore. Doyler could have put us 2-1 up but a poor effot was saved. Pats got a pen that looked, on tv, outside the box but they were well worth the win.

Jimmy Browne is a great signing for them.

Our MF is awful and that's three defeats in a row with games against Rovers, Derry and Bohs to come.

Very satisfying trip to Brandywell. Thought we played well in second half as we’ve been not awesome keeping leads. Some goal by Francis, a win against Bohs now will make it the perfect weekend.

Have to say always find them nice at Derry and the drummer lad took things in good spirits.

F*cking injuries though, an entire defence on the treatment table!

Deserved win for Shels. Nice to be able to say that again.

Lynch must surely be under pressure in Derry now. Likewise Daly in Waterford after that thumping.

Bad bad miss. We were probably better team in terms of controlling the midfield but little in terms of creating chances but neither did Galway, maybe the Twardek save and that miss was all. The atmosphere towards the end was a little different to normal, it wasn't antsy or nervous as it might have been previous couple of years, it was "we can win, let's get at them"

Horrible miss, worst I've seen in a long time. Twardek, Keohane and Wolfe all should have scored. Devoy had a free well saved, Mullen shot well saved and ye had one other after Devoys free. Outside that ye didn't really create and we defended really well.

Ye are far more robust than previous seasons. Hickey and Todd look a good partnership, so far. Thought Parsons was woeful, a real let down in that otherwise talented front 5.

Agree with that analysis. Really got away with one tonight. But it's great to see that mental toughness in the team. With 10 minutes to go I couldn't see us getting a winner. But Hickey is amazing, what a signing.

The Galway miss in added time was awful. How he didn't score I'll never know.

We lost those games last year. To sneak a 1-0 win is really encouraging. I think we are starting to look like real contenders now. Shels on Monday will be a great test of where we are. Rovers still favourites but we can dream.

It was an excellent 2nd half performance from us but I was surprised how Drogheda offered nothing once they went behind. I was at the wrong end of the pitch for our penalty, your one looked soft but was probably in the seen them given category. It's early days but I thought ye looked one Conor Keeley injury away from a terrible side. He was everywhere and his pass for the goal was really good for a centre back.

We were poor for the first 20 minutes or so but then took control of the rest of the first half albeit didn't create any clear cut chances. 2nd half was a different matter and we were dominant and deserved the win. Edmondson, Keena and Mata as our three forwards is working well so far. They're not all on the pitchbat the same time but they're all physical players who don't give the backs much rest and Keena has that touch of magic. Our fourth goal was really weird, initially looked a terrible pass from McClelland and that everyone had stopped playing for it to go out but Browne kept running and got to the ball. He then squared it to Palmer who was alone in the box for a tap-in.

Four wins in a row for us, keep that going for the next two matches and we'll be in a great position before the International break where hopefully Lennon and Forrester will be back fit as our bench was a bit threadbare tonight.

That's a fair assessment, we were poor.

Conor's great but I wouldn't blame our other defenders. Our MF is poor without a Gary Deegan or Ryan Brennan type player.

Brandon Kavanagh is a lovely player but Farrell is poor and we badly need a CM in front of the back four.

We made to easy for you and yet missed a peno and had some chances.

Our season is simply about the bottom half of the table. It's clear who the top 5 will be (even if Derry are doing their level best to screw that up).

Pat Hickey is potentially the signing of the season, I don't think anyone expected him to come in a centre half, but he looks so assured. He can read the game so well, he can tackle, he wins headers, positionally he's bang on and he can pass the ball as well.

Don't forget Anang peno save. Different game then.

Our chairman isn't the type who rushes to sack managers. He wanted Higgins to stay on after he lost to a pub team in Europe and came 4th in a 2 horse race.

But surely he knows we cannot continue on our current path? We are absolutely dire. No coherence, no plan, no style, no shape. The Brandywell is emptying with each game and the majority of the fans have now no confidence in the manager.

Manager seemed to have you going places last season before having to shoehorn both McCleans into the team. Feel like you’d be better off with last season’s team, Clarke and Markey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,071 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I wouldn't be so sure about how he done last season.

For a long time it looked like we wouldn't get 2nd. But the football wasn't great either, and I think we put a decent run together in the run in and sneaked 2nd.

But we signed 13 new players this season. That's simply madness. You dont have to be a football expert to know this wont work. The 2 McCleans have both been shocking this season. Both need benched for a spell. They seem to be guaranteed a starting place every game no matter how sh1t they play, yet young Clarke is sitting on the bench tonight watching an old man run around midfield making mistake after mistake. And OReilly was covering every blade of grass yet gets hooked and McClean stays on. Go figure.

The fans have turned, and it is hard to see how Lynch will ever win them back.

It was. The Times reported this morning that council staff have been suspended for watering the pitch despite the rain.

Club saw them do it after reviewing CCTV and complained. The pitch is now being maintained by a private company.

Great start to the campaign. There's plenty of goals in the team. We need to keep that winning momentum going.

What names would be in the mix for the Derry job if they were to sack Lynch?

    Couple of things there:

Our chairman isnt a guy who sacks folk, even when we are playing sh1t.

Duffer wont up root his life and move to Derry. Ain't happening.

There isnt a lot of managers out there.

Very attractive job. Would be a lot of interest in it from over the water id say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,071 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Perhaps. If there is, im starting to wonder how we ended up with this bluffer at the helm.

    Mostly cagey stuff tonight

Galway-Waterford game a great watch. Both sides really going for the win.

Amond having a great game and showing why he’s still one of the league’s best strikers even at nearly 38 years old.

Disappointing match in Inchicore and a draw was probably the fairest result although I think in the 2nd half we had a few decent chances. Missed Leavy for his drive on the ball and his willingness to run at players. Nugent was man of the match from our side at least, had a great game in midfield.

One for the greatest league in the world books tonight. Derry made a triple sub and the ref restarted the game with a Derry free which went straight out for a throw. Then before the match restarts the players realises that it's 12v11 and alert the ref. There's two minutes of confusion before someone figures out that Markey hadn't left the pitch and he's sent on his way with a yellow card.

Very impressive from Bohs tonight. That was a tough game. Thought we handled Shels well. That said they missed a sitter.

Honestly think we look the complete team. Deserve to be top of the league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,157 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Bohs the better team 2nd half but neither team did close to enough to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,813 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Not a whole lot to report from Drogheda tonight. Rovers were the ones knocking on the door for the final 15 mins, and Noonan had a good chance to win it, but don't think either team really deserved to win and it was a forgettable game overall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,072 ✭✭✭budgemook

Fair. Shels seemed happy enough with the draw as the second half went on.

Think tiredness set in as we’ve played 4 games in the last 11 days, and haven’t been able to rotate as much with the amount of injuries.

Need to go get 3 points in Sligo on Saturday and then that international break will be very welcome.
