I took a flight with EI recently. On the way home there was a short leg with AA followed by a transatlantic leg with EI and then upon arrival in Dublin I used Uber to get home. Points for AA and Uber were almost immediately in my AerClub account but I am waiting on EI (1 day later). It generally arrives in 2-3 days so all good but weird how third parties can update immediately (United were the same a few months back). Maybe EI have a batch process?

So, I have achieved platinum for the next 12 months (first time).

From the website I see the following benefits over silver:

    • 50% extra Avios
    • Access to 51st&Green lounge at Dublin Airport (when it reopens)
    • Lounge access for a companion (assume this includes 51st & Green)
    • 1 complimentary upgrade

Are there any hidden benefits anyone is aware of?

    • Use of partner lounges – BA in LHR for example
    • I assume if economy is full a Platinum traveller is closer to the top of the list people considered for an upgrade. I recently got upgraded at the gate when Silver and travelling on a Flex fare (to Chicago). Was thrilled 😊

If you're flying BA or American airlines, you have access to their lounges as well as fast track security I believe.

Not sure if the companion access applies to 51st and green. (Though the Google AI says it does)

If i was to get the wife an additional Aer CC would she be eligible for the free flights after the 5k spend? Have the card a year this month and have a big purchase due that will get me the free flights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭kindalen

Yes you will, but has to be a separate account, not a second card on your own existing account.

I have some big house purchases coming up, what's my best tactic for earning a few points?

I was thinking of maybe revolut Ultra Credit card to avail of 1.5 revpoints for every euro spend, and then convert those points to aer club when the rev 20% bonus next comes around.

But not sure is there something more beneficial? I don't have any aer credit card at the minute, so would consider that if better.

    Spend is probably about 40-50k

Platinum does get you into the 51st and Green if flying on EI (and on AA) and you can bring a guest on the same flight as you.

Platinum is FFP2 in the JV so lounge access when flying on AA/BA/EI at all airports on a ticket which includes a flight across the Atlantic to/from US/CA/MX

Platinum also gets you into the BA lounges at LHR if flying from DUB/ORK/SNN on EI to LHR and then BA onwards to any destination, must be EI + BA on the same ticket

There is a dedicated phone number for support and you are further up the list for upgrade

Does anyone know what the check in allowances are on the free flights through the Aer Credit Card? Ive had it 6 years now and am pretty sure ive checked in a 20kg bag in the past. Looking back at all the confirmation emails it only says 10kg carry on so im confusing myself as ive never carried a bag on.

Yes you can , though mixed reports whether you can do it on the automated machines , you may have to do it at check in desk

We couldnt use the automated machines in Dublin airport. Had to manually be checked in

Just got an email about an avios only flight to Malta in August, 20k avios for a return ticket.

I applied for boi rewards flights and they were approved, however when I checked the dates I see the return date is a day earlier than I'm sure I had requested.

I called their 'help desk' got passed around a bit and was told I have to book those dates and if I don't I lose the benefit and they won't be reinstated back to my account. Is that the case, that if you don't follow through with the booking, you lose the flight benefit and they can't be reapplied to your account?

Has anyone else had this happen where they've confirmed a different date to what you applied for?

I applied for a flight simply to check availability and price and they sent me a booking to pay, I ignored it as I had changed my mind on dates (hotel price). When I tried to book again, on the assumption that I had not taken up the booking I was informed it was used - raised a formal complaint but didn't get the benefit reinstated.

If, you asked for specific dates and. you can prove that then you may have an argument, they don't usually offer alternate dates, just say flights not available so, should not have happened unless you requested the dates.

Ask to see their copy of your application so that you can check the dates - they should either change the date or reinstate the benefit if you can prove your request does not align.

The free are good for what they are but boy do Aer Lingus/Bank of Ireland make them hard to use!!

Thanks for that. Was hoping the response would say the benefit is reinstated but if it's not I might just book them and use the flight over only, will still save some money. I can't imagine I'll get anywhere other than frustrated trying to battle with them over the dates given my experience with them to date

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭thebiglad

I tried, in vain - there response times are brutal and couple of times they completely missed the point I was trying to get across, whether deliberate or not.

If I were you though I'd still at least ask for a copy of the flight request form they received from you - if they didn't follow those flights then you have a chance.

I thought the most you could pay in Europe was 7,500 avios (15k in each direction)

These would be avios only,so no cash co pay or taxes and everyone on the plane has paid avios for their seat,so there’s a good chance the lounge will be rammed on the day that it operates as most of them will have the BoI credit card

On a map, but for EI it's Zone 3 with the rest of the longer distances in Europe for 8.5 k to 10 k each way.

Just to update, flew out last Thursday, couldn't check it in. Was told by 3 different agents it was carry on only.

Also free selection of seats is gone, did random allocation twice and thankfully got decent seats but even the basic ones 48 hours before were being charged. Looks like they've made some tweaks.

Interesting, we only flew out at the start of March so not much of a time difference and had no issue manually checking in all 10kg bags. (We did also have a 20kg bag that had to be checked too).

We were able to check both 10kg bags Outbound and inbound too.

So frustrating when two different things happen / the ground staff don't know what the policies are or if they change policies let customers know

Last time I flew and used the fast track/priority boarding the staff member at the gate hadnt a clue / nor would listen. She just said it doesn't say it on my boarding pass , I tried to explain about the credit card etc and she kept pointing to the boarding pass.

I wasn't fussed and just boarded as normal .

WOW EI is offering soft landing for AerClub.

After multiple years as Concierge I did not do a single trip on EI last membership year and this morning I got the "Welcome to Platinium" mail, I was expecting to drop down to nothing but seemingly soft landings are a thing.

Not that this will get me back, but still a nice to have just in case I need to do EI.

Why is the Aerclub app so clunky?

Anyway, how does one see how many Avios it would take for an upgrade when gking transatlantic, tried managed my booking but nothing there.

Better yet, you'll get a year of silver after that! I was concierge two years ago then pretty much completely stopped work travel. Got a year of platinum and now a year of silver. As you say, very handy on the odd personal flight

you have to email them. It’s about 37k each way if I recall .. at least that what I gave for an east coast return trip later this month
