VAR took so long I was convinced they'd find something - we actually got benefit of the doubt

    disappointingly easy

    Now VAR, now!!!

Go back and look at foul on Tammy!

It was in same period of play that lead to goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,753 ✭✭✭basillarkin

Konsa pure much, ok no pressure on but that's shite. Is Pau injured

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

    Of course not.

You can intervene when Bailey is 50/50 keeping ball in play vs Brentford, but wont look at why Tammy is sprawled out

Actually even more stupid, he's now booked the player for that tackle on Tammy, but hasn't given a fee or stopped game as they break and score

Another soft goal… feck it anyway

Bogarde ain't a back up right back, questions need to be asked, small money wasted on Garcia and the young serb?

Rodgers form off a cliff and still gets play, will do well to hold 6th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

    Here's Garcia now…for Buendia.

So I guess Bogarde in now playing attacking left wing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

Nope, it's Mings playing left wing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

That's hialrious - 3 Villa players and an open goal. And Garcia tackles Luiz and they both miss the ball

How did they not score there, Luiz and Garcia getting in each others way….

5th surely by these evening, 3 off Chelsea (and potentially 4 off Brentford if they win at home to Wolves tomorrow 😐)

Ref played advantage for Villa I thought. Anyway, I think that was on the players. Setup wasn’t terrible or anything, players were just found wanting in some key moments. Rogers in particular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,955 ✭✭✭Patser

Ref didn't seem to signal anything, and attack almost immediately broke down, so I thought under new rules they could call it back for the free.

Utd scored in the same passage, so VAR should have at least queried it - but compare the time taken in awarding the goal (no check) to how long they studied Barkleys; or as I mentioned the famous disallowed goal vs Brentford when VAR went back to far end of pitch to decide that Bailey probably didn't keep it in

If ref wasn’t giving an advantage, you could go back for a foul. Was defo my impression that he was though. Villa let themselves down in both boxes today. Things still won’t look too grim if can get the job done on Thursday and Sunday. But big if there.

I mean it is Utd at Old Trafford, so we really shouldn't be that shocked.

We just need to somehow turn things around. As you say CSF, complete the job vs Lille and we are still in hunt for 1st trophy in years, as well as competing for top 5. Given depth of squad, Emery is working miracles, probably way over-achieved pre-Christmas so we've a warped perception of where we are.

But we really, really need to see a reboot happening soon

Whatever about getting a draw today we never actually looked like we could get a win crazy that Utd were 11 points behind us at one stage. We are in a bit of a slump but had set high standards for ourselves I think this is a consequence of the financial restrictions we’re working under.

I stand to be corrected but players brought in over the last few transfer windows have seemed like stop gap measures and who knows what the thought processes were behind Dobbin,Iling Jo, Barranechea etc. We’ve not been able to bring in signings of a higher quality that would improve the starting 11 long term.

Today isn’t the bad stuff though. Everton, Brentford and Leeds at home and Wolves away are where it’s fallen down. West Ham next week is another game like that and it’ll be make or break.

    Spurs!!

Well we're still in top 4.

But as tweet below says, time for excuses is up, we have to start getting points

What's the maths now on the title?

Two PL wins from 10 isn’t good enough need to repeat that 8 game winning run we had before Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,156 ✭✭✭✭CSF

I’d say 13 points out of 24 is about what it will take to do it now. Chelsea’s fixtures are horrible (and play both Liverpool and United so they can’t both win those games) which is why Villa are still 4/9 with bookies for top 5 in spite of being this bad.

Hope so four wins and the odd draw our goal difference isn’t great would be painful to lose out again should that come into play.

We’re playing after Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United next weekend so will need to sort out our attack for that game to find a way to get a win. Brentford have 2 games before then! There are only so many times we will get to drop points and stay Top 5. Hard to see how the attack will get fixed unless someone like Bailey or Sancho finds form to change the shape of opposition defences. Playing long to Watkins with little support isn’t enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,362 ✭✭✭pavb2

One option is to start Tammy over Ollie but yes if he doesn’t get the support it’s the same outcome

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,156 ✭✭✭✭CSF

I think realistically if Villa finish behind Brentford they’ll be finishing 6th place.

Be thankful Villa can't be relegated, this squad is awful and the the manager is persisting with players totally out of form. It's an embarrassingly poor Premier leauge and the fact Villa find themselves in fourth is laughable. Liverpool are a shambles, Manchester United are not much better, Chelsea are a freak show and Villa will finish behind all of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,362 ✭✭✭pavb2

Until recently you would have thought a one goal lead against Lille with the home tie to come would be enough but given our recent performances I’m not so sure. Anyway hopefully we can get over the line and maybe buy a bit of time for Tielemans and McGinn to get up to speed.

All teams have injuries Spurs 13 I think but It is quite disappointing that our other players aren’t stepping up and a shambles that Harvey Elliot hasn’t been given more of a chance.

    Happy with that lineup

Cash back on bench has me happy, had me worried he'd be another of those nonspecific injuries that go on for months.

Pau and Lindelof a big change, but should be creative

    Tammy starts
