Definitely agree that Villa losing probably maximises our chance of getting champions league. But I can't want that, no matter how hard I try, so draw please 🤣

I watched both Arsenal and City games.

The standard of football in the PL is gone yhrough the floor. 2 games of pure muck.

    super strange season.

they used to say that 40 points would make you safe in the league and 6th place is 48 points.

    Weird

Still almost a quarter of the season to play though. 6th last year at the same stage was also 48 points, and the year before 6th was only 2 points better off at 50.

The teams threatened by that last relegation spot are all averaging around a point a game, so that thing of breaking 40 to be safe is still just as true this year.

Cynical play is rewarded - Arsenal are a disgrace. The united penalty red card the other week a joke.

Pep hasn't won a EFL Cup since 2020 season, a FA Cup since 2022 season, a PL Title since 2023 season

Next Sunday is EFL Final, but Arsenal are chasing the quad , so they won't lie down. Will Pep ever win another trophy for City , if this season is another blank he'll leave.

    Klopp knew when to walk

City have a lookalike lined up . Pep and Klopp were the best PL Era

They're really not a disgrace. Arteta - who I cannot abide - has figured out a way to get them over the line and after 21 years of waiting, he's done it by fair means and foul. I just hope that their style of 'play' isn't emulated too much by other sides or the PL will become unwatchable. Arsenal fans don't give a **** about that tonight, nor should they.

Nope they really are dragging the game into disrepute faking two head injuries in ten minutes against a relegated team, dragging a badly injured Conor off the pitch apart from all else - just terrible and to call them champions if their fans can click with that they are just sad kants.

Before they went down this path they were also hit by Citys cheating but rsther than beat them decided to join them enabled by insipid refereeing

The outcome of their league title win will be rule changes to stop the game becoming unwatchable which it pretty much is at the moment..

    Wow, this is so delusional.

Arsenal didn't drag an injured Conor Bradley off the pitch, one of their players reacted badly but Bradley never left the pitch until after the medical staff had treated him.

This fake blaming of an entire club for one players stupid mistake is just sad.

Dragging the game into disrepute? Jesus Christ

Tbh, I'm not a fan of their style of plsy, but I'd rather be in Arsenal's position than fighting it out for top 5, which my team is.

**** housing your way to a title, there is no Liverpool fan I know who'd prescribe us adopting that stuff. The football this season has become unwatchable.

Look Like it or not arsenal have found a way of winning they wont care what others think, iits about winning at any cost now I agree the football to watch this year has been absolutely horrific so slow and boring not many teams if any have played exciting football including Liverpool.

For supporters supposed to not care what others think the fact you have posts from their fans in here seem to indicate they do care what others think. We all care what others think of us in some way, I am sure their fans that used to have a superiority complex over other teams style of play are hurting inside a little at what they are seeing, even if they are winning. Anyone remember the "Hooooffff" shouts when others teams cleared the ball against them about 10 years ago? Those same supporters are now happy with what they see their team doing? I guess only Arsenal fans can say and even then they may not be honest in a public forum.

Still prefer them to win over City or United, even with their cynical play and focus on set pieces and the darks arts at corners when it comes to blocking the opposition, not even talking about their unlikeable attitude as was seen with Martinelli and Bradley. If the roles were reversed I suspect Arteta would have gone to court to have our player arrested for manhandling and abusing their injured player. But easier to swallow than the alternative.

Yeah i agree, thats a whole league issue. Its not just an Arsenal issue. Watch the majority of premier league games this season and the last couple of seasons to be fair. Arsenal are capable of playing more open and attacking football, but with the current state of the league they'd probably drop more points by doing it.

Sure just watch back the two Liverpool and Arsenal games this season? Hardly breath taking football by both sides in them games. Sure Liverpool didnt even have a shot on target at the Emirates. Every team is guilty of it this season. Just easier to blame the team at the top for it.

It's for the league and other clubs to react imo.

Not an Arsenal problem - far from it.

I prefer Klopp ball but spare me this nonsense that you have to win it a certain way. Every single Liverpool would love to win the title Arsenal's way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,113 ✭✭✭riddles

Arsenal has invested heavily in defensive capability and execute a great defensive game plan like getting back into formation at speed all that is laudible and built on hard work no issue with any of that.

If it delivers a league to them fair play. The issue comes from faking injuries in particular head injuries and delaying restarts etc. That's the distinction.

As for your point every Liverpool fan would love to win the title the Arsenal way, utter nonsense. We won 20 titles not needing to do it. Anfield is not exactly singing from the rafters with Slots version of controlled football even after the recent 5-2 win against West Ham as an example.

I think this weekend was the crucial win for Arsenal. They are on 70 points, have 7 games left and probably only need to hit around 80-82 points or so to close it out. Most of their games are very straightforward with the exception of City of course.

If City win game in hand, gap is six, if they beat Arse gap is 3, would make it interesting

Personally I wouldn’t. For me football is about enjoyment more than winning.

As a previous poster said, they will 100% introduce rule changes next season based on how Arsenal have gone about winning the League this season. That tells its own story.
Arsenal should enjoy their victory but it’s built on foundations of cheating and gamesmanship. I suspect that deep down that leaves a bitter aftertaste for them.

Fair play to Arsenal, I don't like how they play, but, they have found a way to get the job done. I wouldn't be critical of Arsenal as they have endured plenty of heartache playing the " right way" under Wenger and have been close the last few seasons. For those who don't like Arsenal winning the league, they might have to get used to it, once they win this season, the pressure will be off and they could win a few more; they have the best squad, probably won't be that many changes in the summer and all their main rivals are in some kind of transition, have lots of work to do - Pep might leave City, both ourselves and United might have new managers and Chelsea will likely continue having huge player turnover, so out of the main contenders Arsenal are the most stable and have much less work to do.

This season was certainly a lost opportunity for us, and unfortunately we made little to no progress this season to suggest we'll be able to challenge Arsenal next season.

Yeah great point in fairness. What rule changes do you think they'll go for? Instead of awarding a corner kick, you get a 45 kick in instead? Maybe a throw in or a drop ball? Interesting summer ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,360 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

True, in PL City won 5 of last 10, we could have 5 wins in ten today if we win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,924 ✭✭✭Damien360

They are not alone. Lots, if not most teams, are doing similar. Rugby corner kicks and time wasting. To give them credit, they have built a team without fiddling the books like City.

A rule change I would like enforced. If a dive results in a yellow to the other team, which I think is always a VAR incident, then it should be openly cancelled and immediately a yellow handed to the diver.

Open mic on the ref would change the abuse they get overnight.

Maybe a shot clock like rugby would be easier to implement. That's for all dead ball situations. Stop the full clock using open mic on ref for injuries that eat time. Enforce rigidly during added time.

Enforcing the rules that are therr would be a start.

"It is perfectly legal to stand your ground or "mark" an opponent tightly, provided you are playing the ball or holding a defensive position. The line is crossed the moment your movement is designed solely to obstruct or physically control the opponent rather than win the ball."

Overall I think given the last few years, I'm at peace with Arsenal winning it. Of all our historically serious competitors they are the most palatable as they are generally well managed as a company and also not tied to some maniacal regime. Don't like how they play much, and not a big fan of Arteta, but can't say they don't deserve it imo especially when everyone is playing awful football. It's an ugly season, but then somebody's got to step up. It's crazy to think they've gone 22 years without winning, really, not that far away from our 30 years, and we had a CL in the middle to tide us over. It was a lost opportunity for us this year, but then last year was a gift so that's a wash. We need to come out with major intentions next year, because it will be there for the taking again imo.

Think a draw is the best result really, less total points awarded (2 instead of 3), and Villa are still in terrible form either way (no wins in 4 with a draw or loss) and will prob drop out anyway.

Personally I would be happy if United stumble a bit before the end of the season. Ideal scenario is Carrick does just enough to get the full time position, but not enough to build a strong confidence, and then stays on to start next season and crashes and burns like clockwork. So that would look like a couple of draws and losses, and maybe 4th place finish for them (and 3rd for us lol).
