I have a pumped rainfall shower, the pump is loud, very loud, you can here it in every room in the house

Its gotten noisier lately and i think i will get rid and fit a new one

Thinking of fitting a silent one and getting one with a lower flow rate to save water

Also thinking of fitting a temperature regulator before the pump to lower the temperature of the hot supply to protect against scalding but really to lower the temperture of showers to save hot water and reduce humidity, kids turn room into a sauna

Anyway can this regulator be used to lower max temp, or does shower pump need to be piped direct to the tank

It it a Pumped power shower, as in a plastic box on the wall or a dedicated pump in the hot press or attic?

What is the make & model of the shower or pump?

Its a rainfall shower, with a separate pump in the attic no idea what make anything is, its about 20 years old

Pump is also hooked up to bath and sink taps, so very annoying if tap is used late at night

I install silent electric & power showers but I have never heard of a dedicated pump that is claimed to silent.

Some stand alone pumps are quieter than others though. First thing is to buy a brass body pump rather than a plastic body pump. There is a massive difference in the quality and sound.

I find the Stuart Turner 3 bar Monsoon very quiet. Mine is literally on the other side of my head when I'm sleeping. It's not loud enough to wake anyone up in the house, even me less than 3 feet away from it. It sits on the slats above the cylinder where most Irish store their sheets. I've never even considered using a vibration / sound absorbing mat for it.

Most apartments being built in the last few decades use the Stuart Turner monsoon. While I work on their showers I never hear anyone complain about the noise from the monsoon, unless the pump is failing.

Thanks i will check the old one, but will probably get the 2 bar version of that brand, its about €500 on screwfix

Presume its okay to fit a temperature regulator on the hot supply to the pump?

Fitting a Thermostatic mixing valve won't effect the 5 years parts and labour warranty with Stuart Turner.

There is a little messing about with Stuart Turner pumps sourced from Screwfix. The import UK models rather than Irish models. The flexis are UK size rather than Irish. Buying Irish flexis voids the warranty. You will need to use the UK flexis & then alter the pipework from UK to Irish. It's not a lot of extra work but it will mean that you get the 5 years parts and labour warranty.
