The entire “VMTV (or TV3 previously) is not in HD on Saorview” thing has been done hundreds of times on this forum for about 15 years and I’m not sure there’s anything new anyone could possibly add to the (many many) discussions we’ve had at this stage.

Q is it possible to watch back shows on virgin media?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,718 ✭✭✭Jeff2

They usually say a shoe is on vm1 or online so I'm sure you can watch back shows online.

    Verging media play.

I’ve heard The Group Chat has been axed.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

On the Player yes. Not VM4 stuff though unless you get lucky by searching a programme that was on it and it might pop up.

Not everything they broadcast is available in full on VM Play.Matches like the Champions league are only available as highlights. Six nations matches they broadcast are available in full though. Depending on you TV you can also record/time shifts to a memory stick. I dont know if the Virgin Media cable TV boxes can do this.

The Virgin Media Play App is available on agoiod range of TVs and settop boxes, or will run via the Internet browser on some smart TVs, but not all. Older Samsung smart sets have no VM app, nor will their internal browser app work. Android TVs work, Apple TV boxes, even ancient ones, maybe some game consoles? Firestick also I think. Well worth having, it's free.

I see Fionnan Sheahan treating himself to a full article, about himself, claiming he was 'Catholic shamed' for having his Ash Wednesday blotch on his forehead on VM Tonight Show last Wednesday. First I've heard of it, and as he brought it to our attention himself, it's a bit disingenuous. No one really gives a shyt about religious symbolism anymore. It's sad that he wants controversy, but had to raise it himself as it went entirely unnoticed and uncommented on in proper media, except maybe X and like cesspools, which don't count. I might as well feed his gripe and comment so. Here's his self published screen grab.

    1000020767.jpg

And my 'shaming' comment? Why does it look like a swastika?

Not sure if this thread is just for general VM news as opposed to individual issues.
But I can't see anywhere more suitable.

I'm Dublin region with VM Horizon Box, subscribe to Sky Sports (SD, not HD).
Since last night the channels display fine but the EPG is borked.
None of the sports channels (401-407 on the EPG) say what is on.

So currently on 402 Cricket I'd expect the EPG to say something like "T20 World Cup England v Pakistan".
Instead it says "Sky Sports Cricket HD on EPG 502 from February 24".
Each of the sports stations has a message similar to this, in 4 hour blocks for the next 10 days.
e,g, Main Event says "Sky Sports Main Event HD on EPG 501 from February 24".

501 and 502 etc are either blank or totally irrelevant (502 is Fashion TV).

Anyone on Horizon seeing anything similar. Have tried factory reboot, no joy.

This thread is more about VMTV (what was TV3) rather then the cable/broadband service the link above someone will be able to help you there.

Week In Review seems to be returning to VM1 on Sat 14th March 5pm according to the new listings. Last seen in October 2008, when it was dropped along with the weekend news at the time.

might be a repeat of the 2008 show

Maybe part of the expanded news service. They were given 3m or so from the CnaM earlier in the year, which according to the CnaM covers them for both VMTV 1 and 2.

Some 'interesting' additions to the schedule after next week:
Monday With Gavan Reilly - 10pm Monday 23rd VM1. I'm sure that'll be just using The Tonight Show studio again. Doubt it'll be audience orientated.

Judge Judy - New Series 5pm Monday 23rd. I've always thought that they must have shown every episode of this seeing they've shown it since Day 2 of TV3 and the series finished in 2021 in the US. However, VM1 has Series 24 of Judge Judy showing as new starting. Surprised they are so far behind - with 2 full series to show still. Only a matter of time that they'll show her newer programme called Judy Justice.

UEFA U21s ROI v Moldova Thurs 26th 5pm VM2. First time them showing a U21s match. Not sure what's going on here, would have thought RTE have exclusivity over ROI's matches. The only theory I have is that RTE are putting their resources into the Czechia v ROI game later in the evening, and the match was offered to VMTV.

Football rights are through UEFA, so aren’t negotiated with individual FAs. New tournament so Virgin must have made them a better offer than RTE

Good to see VM using the money they got from Comissiún na Meán. Others don’t like him here but I do like Gavan Reilly so I’ll be watching his show. I’m sure it’ll be a similar format to the Tonight Show. I hope Shane Coleman gets the Tonight Show gig full time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays if he want’s it. In my opinion he’s been the best of the stand-in presenters so far.

I don't think they should get money from the state, they are a private company, should we nationalise them?

I think Gavan is very boring. If Monday is the same format as Tonight why bother.

They should not get money from the state and at the same time have made redundancies and shipped work out to India.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,193 ✭✭✭iseegirls

The qualification stage is halfway through though. ROI have played 5 games so far.

Albeit RTE were publishing press releases saying that they had 2 games earlier in the season. Maybe they're purchased on a matchweek basis. ?

I’ve no problem with the broadcasting side of VM getting money from the state for their News and Current Affairs content. But they should be accountable to the Public Accounts Committee for how they spend that money and if any salaries are paid using that money then they should be published just like RTÉ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I agree, but VM is a very large company with big profits surely they should give something back in terms of Public Service.

If not then we need to decide to nationalize they news and current affairs broadcast services.

Isn't a nationalised news organisation the same as a propaganda wing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭deezell

Vote in Sinn Fein so. They would take control in a jiffy, if their record of SLAPPing is anything to go by.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭RoTelly

If you are going to pay a private company to produce their main public service broadcast requirement I think your starting the idea that a centralized government news organisation that provides the news to the independent broadcaster sector should be established?

Why is the government paying money to private organisations for news and current affairs?

The CnaM should have published before awarding that 3 million to VMTV the total cost of VMTV news before the subvention and how it will improve the service.

To me much of this "work" that the CnaM is doing is funding the license requirements of the Independent Broadcasters.

If we want to nationalise these services, then it is time to do so.

Otherwise they try to earn a curst themselves.

I agree. This a private company who knew the terms if the licence at the start but being ireland we always give in to constant complaining of how unviable xyz is by the private sector unless the state intervenes.

Shocking to watch Cheltenham with no VM Irish broadcasters on the ground, or in studio, just Irish pundits hired by ITV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 289 ✭✭AJB39

The first edition of Week in Review aired today. It’s presented by Caroline Twohig but is just a replay of news stories that have already aired on news bulletins during the week. A total waste of time really. I hope not much of their new income is been spent on it.

I’m not sure why you’re shocked, that’s the way all racing has been on VMTV for the past nine years.

Their constant promos suggest they're 'bringing' the racing to you as the.Irish rights holder, its just an ITV rebroadcast. Zero effort. That's what's shocking, that we just accept it. At least they make an effort for the 6 nations.
