The guy is dangerous and unhinged at this point. Thinks all he has to do is drop even more missiles on Iran and the problem will go away.

I actually re read Conrad's Heart of Darkness and rewatched Apocalypse Now in the last couple of weeks and the parallel’s between the current US administration and that "horror" are chilling.

If one had predicted a decade or so ago that a Western administration would emerge that is as money grabbing, corrupt, morally vacuous, devoid of shame or empathy and willing to use spin, manufactured front organisations and bribery to maintain their facade as King Leopold's despotic rule over the Congo, it would have seemed relatively hard to countenance, because of the perception of checks and balances in place. Unfortunately no longer, as every day brings new depths for the Trump administration to stoop to.

The sad thing is that if history is to repeat itself, Leopold largely escaped any real consequences of his actions and greed also. The Belgian state had to buy out his interest in the Congo for the equivalent of billions, he died in his own bed, un-prosecuted and left the bulk of his estate to the final one of his multiple underage mistresses! The parallels are disturbing.

Based on the brain power of the current administration (regime) the below quote is very relevant.

"You would never know America had a schooling system if it wasn't for all the shootings"

Who'd like to be Micheal in DC on Tuesday?

PLANS BY THE Donald Trump-owned Trump Doonbeg resort in west Clare to construct a ballroom have been stalled by a sole objector living in Co Longford. This follows Liam Madden of Convent Rd, Longford lodging separate appeals with An Coimiúsin Pleanála (ACP) against two separate planning permissions granted by Clare County Council last month for the permanent ballroom and other upgrades at the west Clare resort.

In his appeal against the planned ballroom, Madden has urged ACP to “please refuse this nonsense”. Madden also pointed to what he describes as the marked deterioration of the 2mm Vertigo Angustior snail at the site. Madden claims that the deterioration of the Vertigo Angustior to near extinction can be attributed to nothing other than the development taken as a whole since its inception. which clashes with a report with the planning application that marine erosion and habitat succession were the cause. A snail bringing Trumps plans to a crawl, even.

Maybe we are lucky he has made such a mess of this because if the operation in Iran was a quick in and out like Venezuela .. He would really be emboldened to do something stupid over Greenland

A lot of people are still blind to the fact that all previous alliances are meaningless to the orange buffoon. He could molest the grandkids of his core vote in their backyards and they'd still swear it was Obama.

By assassinating a national head of state without being under direct threat from them he has demonstrated that every countries leadership is in his sights if they personally annoy him.

Micheal Martin might receive a oval office tirade about how Ireland needs regime change because of objections to his Doonbeg ballroom.

The USA under Trump is a hostile entity to all. Even Israel may lose its coveted pet position if Trump concludes that it's a total waste of remaining US military would be better spent on his American Shield notion.

For a quick look at Trump's war on Iran, there's Helen Lewis speaks to Ian Hislop, Adam Hunter Murray and Adam McQueen…

Aya Tolland told you so: Private Eye on trump's War with Iran - YouTube.

The families of the children murdered in the school and in other bombings mean that America could fall victim to future terror attacks surely?

The new Ayatollah has lost his father , wife and some of his children in the US/Israeli missile attacks over the last week or 10 days, so he's not likely to be in any kind of conciliatory mood any time soon.

Are they the same Iranians that follow a religion founded by a fella that married a 9 yr old?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,691 ✭✭✭yagan

All the people criticising Iran's reaction remind me of that Tom Barry quote.

They said I was ruthless, daring, savage, blood thirsty, even heartless. The clergy called me and my comrades murderers; but the British were met with their own weapons. They had gone in the mire to destroy us and our nation and down after them we had to go.

While i agree with the sentiment, you do know that in iran girls can marry at 13 and even younger with their parents consent, which happens.

You think the next guy in line won't be in a similar boat??

There is no scenario where the Religious leadership in Iran gets replaced as a result of this war.

The name of the person changes nothing…It's a cult , but unlike the US it's not a cult of personality so if they kill the current guy, some other guy with exactly the same world view steps in and absolutely nothing changes - They can rinse and repeat pretty much indefinitely.

That reality is one of the many many things that the US simply didn't understand when they started this sh!tshow.

the Donald doesn’t want to marry them. Just **** them.

It's a proper origin story for the new Ayatollah.

It really is the most stupid and unnecessary action taken by an incompetent and corrupt idiot which, this time, has finally f**cked not only some of the country, but, the whole f**king country.

Just FYI, there's lot of US states that also allow child marriage ranging from 12 to 18.

It seems the US economy was already much weaker than previously thought, even before this crisis began. This is on top on last week's figures showing virtually no jo creation during 2025:-

Oil price shock likely to ‘push the UK economy into recession’; US growth revised down – business live

    US economic growth revised down

Newsflash: The US economy only grew half as fast as initially estimated in the last quarter of 2025.

US GDP rose at an annual rate of 0.7% in October-December 2025, new data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis shows. That’s the equivalent of less than 0.2% growth in the quarter.

The BEA had initially estimated annualised growth of 1.4% in Q4 2025, which was already a slodown after 4.4% growth in Q3.

Today, the Bureau says it has revised down its estimate of US exports, consumer spending, government spending, and investment in the quarter.

Although this data is somewhat historic, it shows the American economy had less momentum than we thought as it enters the energy shock caused by the Iran war.

You can imagine the scandalised GOP reaction if Obama or Biden had delivered such figures, rather than Trump the miracle-working 'businessman'.

Was so surprised pleasantly to read this yesterday from Michael McDowell . I had to double check it wasn't a joke …fair dues Michael ,

( It's subscription only so have copied a couple of paragraphs )

"Donald Trump is mad, bad and dangerous. Only the midterms can save the US now

One Congress member is even apparently tabling a Bill to allow the US president to serve a third term

US president Donald Trump waves to the media after landing aboard Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. Photograph: Roberto Schmidt/Getty Images

…the idiot king Donald J Trump

... Trump’s demand that the Republicans in Congress give him the power to suppress voting in November – with obstacles in the form of severe voter identification measures and restrictions on postal voting coupled with long polling-day queues in Democrat precincts.

Trump is asking for electoral powers and threatening to veto all congressional legislation until he is given them. One member of Congress is reportedly tabling a Bill to enable a constitutional change to allow a third Trump presidential term. Gerrymandering of congressional voting districts is rife. January 6th, 2021, was just a foretaste of what can be attempted and what may yet happen.

I agree with Fintan O’Toole when he wrote in these pages that Trump is suffering from madness rather than classical mental illness. His psychological derangements, if I may use that term in preference to mental illness, could perhaps be described as psychopathy or sociopathy, coupled with extreme narcissism.

The old trilogy – “mad, bad and dangerous” – is perfect to describe him…"

    https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/03/11/donald-trump-is-mad-bad-and-dangerous-can-anything-stop-him/

When many of us were worried about his reelection after events of Jan 6th 2021 , were told of all the "checks and balances" to protect democracy in the US.

They have and are being eroded and the hope that America resets with November midterms is getting more and more unlikely .

Changing laws to suit an incumbent president and ensure his continuing reign is not only unconstitutional it threatens the very existence of their country as a democracy .

Its hard to know if hes concious or alive though. No proof of life, just a statement.

Either way it doesn't appear to affecting the Iranians retaliation abilities and tactics.
