Yeah. My point is if the Pally crowd had actually heard of this fella, there'd be hell to pay for both Lyric FM and the National Concert Hall and we wouldn't have heard from that musician at all.

Like the proposed football match, Eurovision, certain pop artists - the noise about it would be spectacular.

    Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

and if he ever gets Tubridy in he can ask him about why he lied to his colleagues about taking a pay cut in solidarity with them when in fact, he didn’t.

    "You're happy enough with that?"

I'm excited and delighted with that.

RTÉ were also eager because they where heading into the Oireachtas committee and wanted it to be an easy day for them. It was like going back in time to before the scandal.

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

The Report confirms that 2017-2019 earning figures for Mr. Tubridy were publicly understated due to adjustments made by RTÉ’s financial department.

The Report makes clear that neither Mr. Tubridy nor NK Management had any involvement in the adjustments for the period 2017 – 2019.

You do understand that Mr. Kelly and Mr. Tubridy don’t work in RTÉ and wouldn’t be responsible for RTÉ’s reporting, right?

And you also understand that this is an entirely different thing to having knowledge of the agreement and being party to it, right?

I mean you do understand this, don’t you?

They are not happy, and are on a mission. Use of phares that were used over the last few week in the media in relation to RTÉ E.G. "hollowing out".

National Lottery programming in the next fortnight will not be happening in house anymore.

Again we never had a real answer to why this programme cost so much money.

I wonder did any of them notice the Children's Department close a decade ago, or that RTÉ axed RTÉ News on 2 and RTÉ Late Night and morning news bulletins on RTÉ ONE, or that they were axed on RTÉ 2FM?

Part of what we were discussing today was for the Late Late Show, if there is a star in town on a Wednesday what happens is the studio will get fired up, crews will come in, the audience can be pulled together from staff and even students from UCD love coming over. An independent, I’m not sure how they would do that maybe if they’re in a warehouse setup on the outskirts of Dublin somewhere. So that would be a loss to the Irish public

This is a new thing in RTÉ on brought in with the advent of Patrick Keilty (yes previous hosts have done this but only sporadically).

He said RTÉ will be legally obliged to spend 25pc of its public funding on productions from the independent sector. “But it doesn’t state that we need to wind down what we do in Donnybrook,” he said. “We should be building on what we have rather than using that 25pc as an excuse to just basically throw away our programming.”

I would agree with him here, Managements plan is to basically move Fair City and TLLS over to the indepenent sector to meet their targets, this doesn't increase programming, it just moves existing programming to a different producers.

Previously, an RTÉ spokesperson said it acknowledged the Siptu ballot result.

I wish newspapers would name the spokeperson, they named both the staff member and the SIPTU person, why do company spokepeople get to hide?

The Report confirms that while the earnings were publicly understated, there was no impact on RTÉ’s financial statements as a result of these adjustments.

The Report suggests a hypothesis that on the balance of probabilities adjustments were made for the years 2017, 2018 and 2019 in order to allow for ‘revised earnings’ below a figure of €500,000 in each year.

The Report highlights poor governance including significant deficiencies in internal management controls, failures in the finance function, and a lack of communication from the Executive to the Board."

These aren't my words they're those of the RTE Board in August 2023. The only thing I've added are highlights.

There's a bang of MAGA from some of these RTE SIPTU people. It's supposed to happen to someone else.

There was not much of an outcry from "the brothers" when management were going after "less important" stuff on the fringes of the organisation - childrens, some late news bulletins, the threat to shut/move Lyric FM in 2018.

It's dawning on them finally that they really are going after things in the heart of the company - the powerbase of the unions - television facilities. Cheered on by a Minister for Communications (like him or not) who believes RTE management are not going far or fast enough.

Time might be up for "Mick" and "Pat", who pull a cable across a studio floor 3 times in an 8 hour shift - although, if they choose to take a Voluntary Redundancy package, can be back working for an independent outfit making something for RTE the following week if they wish.

We had the revelations from the Secret RTE Producer on Twitter, a number of years back, of associates of these guys from within the company being slid quietly into Camera Operator jobs and other instances of nepotism.

Some of these lads and their unions have brought this on themselves.

I've compiled all the tweets from Secret RTÉ Producer in chronological order for easier reading of all the RTÉ gossip : r/ireland

A reminder of the brief whistleblowing tweets (now deleted) of the Secret RTE Producer from 2017, in case you're interested.

Trade Unions not coming out well out of it.

Here's one of my favourite quotes:

"Things I have been enjoying this year: working with the studio crew who have more arcane working practices than a coven of witches." 😁

I wonder where the 1st canteen was? Serving bottles of Harp with their non package soap.

@Dublin Calling or is it a works canteen at all ,maybe a large hotel in Dublin somewhere🤔 anyways interesting seeing all the rte…fair city heads but sadly no Joe Duffy to be seen

from Check Up, but the Boiled Bacon, Potatoes and Cabbage is possibly one of the healthy options.

Like an early version of DWTS :)

That seems to be in a different company, she was talking to Campbell catering for that part of the report.

They hid the bottles of Champagne for the RTÉ part.

Joe would have only being starting out as a reporter on Radio, I think its not until the mid-90s that himself and Gareth O'Callaghan are filing in for Gay Byrne.

    ^^ Re Joe Duffy

Joe did a live broadcast from Griffith College in early 1994 because I saw him there as student. Joe was speaking to Gay Byrne I believe on the Gay Byrne morning show.

1991 as it says on the video :)

I rewatched in on YouTube. The first canteen was in Guinness. The staff used to get 2 or 3 bottles of beer a day. I always thought it was the Black Stuff, but it appears they preferred Harp. I am not sure if they still get it. The Revenue introduced Benefit In Kind rules around the late 90s, stopping a lot work benefits.

I was at that. Joe was all nice beforehand, but turned into a bastard when he went 'on air'. I was surprised to see him advertising something to do with GCD with Dermot Hegerty recently. Dermot must have forgotten about that debate in his old age.

Guinness was probably the best employer in the country back them. The retirement with a full pension is/was 55 or 60. I remember my auld lad was shocked when a neighbour retired so young. He told him he was already one of the oldest in the place.

I don't know why they were slagging off boiled bacon, potatoes and cabbage as unhealthy. You don't have to eat the fat…

Any word on bringing in the Comptroller and auditor general?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,742 ✭✭✭RoTelly

No AFAIK they still have to put forward the bill to allow them to audit.

True, but it shows how media companies are paying. It's crazy money that could be spend across their services.

Back to RTÉ's top ten earners.

I wanted to make a correction. Brian Dobson was actually paid 194K in 2024, not 150K as I had suggested, I am not sure where I got the 150K for 2024. He exited RTÉ at the beginning of May that year, now this might include a lump sum from his pension also, I am not sure if that would be included?

I see Daithi O Se was very busy this week. Hosting Monday's edition of Today with a replacement presenter (where was Sinead Kennedy?) while then heading to Dublin to host the Parade for RTÉ ONE, and back to Cork? no you couldn't over work Mr O Se, Maura was without her "tv husband" on Wednesday - Friday. As you know Friday's edition is pre-recorded on Thursday.

Nice work if you can get it!

Cheap European Homes returns to RTÉ ONE on Sunday. My man likes this show and the Irish version, but she asked me who this guy anytime I was over with my parents. Who is he? He's a comedian? Oh! …. Why is he on it? Some light relief? really? yeah I guess? (And yes I am like this in real life) … RTÉ probable are trying to increase their funding on independent production so they as to stretch it over an hour and gave money for an extra presenter…. ah would ya every shut up, but really why, what's his point, who is he?

So I will be over on Sunday … it will be interesting to see how she feels with a Third presenter!

    Baz is also back!

It shouldn't, that should come from the pension fund not RTE directly, but in RTE anything is possible
