Yeah I'd say it will be like how the Chinese went wild for Wu Kong. The Koreans already made Gooner Blade a massive hit as well.

It's mainly because I love surprises. And modern trailers and especially YTs and reviewers love spoiling stuff. Plus I rarely agree with them anyway, so no point going by what they say. I've already seen and read too much, so I don't want to potentially spoil more.

But I get the reluctance to take a chance these days. Too many AAA devs have released subpar or broken games, so its hard to get excited. But I do like to take a chance now and again. It works sometimes, others it doesnt. The main draw for me here is the emphasis on fun over realism. And it does seem fun.

I hope people see that too. It's not trying to take on RDR, Horizon, etc. If anything, it reminds me more of the RPGs from days gone (the only suitable use of those 2 words together), like Fable, Kingdoms of Amalur, etc, where random madness was prevalent and realism was kept in check. This could also be cope... again, just hope people react on what it is, rather than what it is not.

I'm curious about Crimson Desert, but to the point I don't want to know anything about it until there are actual reviews from people who spent a decent bit of time with it. It really seems like one of those games where it's going to be so subjective that even after trusted reviews, you're still going to have to make a judgement call on whether it's for you or not, but that you're going to need those reviews to at least narrow that decision down.

I get the feeling it's going to be good but just some dumb design decisions bog it down a bit but the ambition also carries it. That's the feeling I get from previews.

Wait what? What about days gone? Crimson desert? Damn, wasn't planning on getting a new game but kinda have to now.

If its not trying to take on best in class then it will soon fall into Jimmy and the Clonosaurus pile of the rest of them

John Linneman likes it but John Linneman is a bit of a basic bitch when it comes to open world games (and an absolute chad when it comes to liking ace combat):

Well, it's not competing against RDR because it's not trying to be, I'd say. RDR is real and gritty, CD looks crazy and fantastical. Wouldn't be a fair comparison. Also, how do you compete with cRockstar? They've way more money, tome and talent. Rather than compete, co-exist. KCD for the realism junkies, RDR for the real-but-not-too-real peeps, and CD for everyone else.

I'm totally trying to, as my niece would say, manifest a positive outcome.

Re: Lineman, I actually don't mind his reviews. He mainly comes from a technical standpoint, so I like that part. His personal opinions are his own.

Anyone played kingdom come deliverance. I was about to start 2 and I noticed 1 was also added to gamepass.

I've played the opening (escaped to the second castle) and all the cut scenes really drive me onwards, but the gameplay is really clunky.

I'm wondering if it's worth battling on because the overall game is worth it? Or just skip to 2 which I've heard is far better.

Most likely I'll run out of spare time and play neither 😭

I'm hoping it's a sleeper hit and not generic myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,802 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Right, so the majority of players will tell you to stick with 1. But honestly, I would advise Skip to 2. 1 is great but it's very hardcore and slow. I tried getting through it twice and both times got half way through before dropping it.

With 2, there's a great catch-up of the story at the start and the game flows so much better. Much better mechanics but still incredibly immersive. As it turns out, too immersive for me as i started getting really bad motion sickness to the point i couldn't play longer for 10 minutes and had to completely drop it. Absolutely sickened as I love it and really really wanted to keep playing it.

    Tldr, go straight to 2.

Edit: motion sickness, not morning sickness 😂 would be a fair special game to cause that.

Having just finished Cairn (thanks for the nudge over the line to get it @Zero-Cool ),i would be surprised if it's not my game of the year this year. Absolutely adored it. The sheer joy at making a climb up the toughest walls, the rage at falling, the temptation and curiosity of "whats over there?" which lead me to secrets, the determination to pick myself up and go again when I fell, the disbelief that climbs were possible and just emotion that this game brought to me was wonderful. A simple yet fantastic story that had me breathless til the end. Also shout out to the wonderful score. Even when I finished, I took the time to pull up the map and review my route.

Loved it, loved it, loved it.

A HD remaster of Bravely Default just dropped on steam and consoles.

One part one of the best JRPGs of its generation, with a second half that manages to ruin all that good will with bloat. Still worth playing.

I still have barely played the 3DS version.

Started Baby Steps. Spent the best part of an hour trying to get the stupid man baby main character to reach a stupid in-game trophy that required near pixel perfect climbing up a tiny ledge. Then spent another 30 mins lugging the trophy up a mountain. And… I thoroughly enjoyed it while also frequently swearing under my breath.

Death Stranding meets QWOP for sure, but also just maybe the most accessible and entertaining of Foddy’s maso-core physics games (I’m sure having some prominent co-developers assist didn’t hurt).

I got that, for a few hours. But it started to drag then. I don't think the premise and gameplay was enough to keep me going. I even tried to ignore the non-necessary parts and power through, but still couldn't finish it. Fun for a while. Maybe Death Stranding fans would get more mileage out of it.

According to PS Deals, Part One was €2.99 in December and €5.99 in January. It's nearly always in sales.

The deluxe edition (the whole package) is currently on sale at €44.99 and is fantastic value.

One of the most confusing series to try and buy now. Every time I notice it's on sale at €2.99 I end up looking at charts and graphs to decipher what's included and ultimately going elsewhere.

At least they’ve made it slightly more streamlined than it was. Actually melted my brain a few times when it existed in its original three separate games form, with mountains of variants, DLCs, carry over packs etc…

The deluxe edition currently on sale on PS5 appears to have everything…. Except for maybe the PSVR2 stuff? I dunno lol

But the PlayStation is an Xbox!

Oh, sorry, Microsoft has disappeared that marketing line.

When I think back of how that game was originally released, it still baffles me. And I'm someone who bought in at the start.

Six levels in the first game, released almost monthly over seven and a half months with intermittent extra content.

And then when Hitman (Part 2) came out, they release DLC to include the first part in the overall package but your progress didn't carry as they made some tweaks.

It's amazing that they got out from Square Enix.

Irish-made game sale on Steam for the week that’s in it.

The newly release Funi Racoon Game might be the first game to feature a DART cameo?

This game is getting rave reviews, selling Switch 2s, and it just went under everyone's radar up to launch. Not my cup of tea, but good to see good game design being rewarded.
