The Lidl 3Euro box is a different concept, as you can see the contents and their state of ripening or decay and then decide to purchase or not.

My only issue with it is that it is located beyond the tills and often I may already have item in my basket that in the 3 Euro box also.

I used to be able to get James Whelan quite regularly - now its impossible - prob late to this discussion but are people circumventing any protection TGTG are putting in place with regards to automated tools to grab bags?

I used to be the same, now even when I press the alert when I receive it the bag is gone.

I put it down to people refreshing the app around the time the bags go up and getting the bag before the alert is received.

I know the one in the Blanch centre had them up at like 645am or so because as one of the workers told me one of the lads comes in early to finish early (obviously getting stuff ready for the day and could judge what was or wasn't needed)

There use to be a note in the sold out to check back at such a time, I am not sure if thats still a thing.

Also if you do search, make sure to put on show sold out, so you can then favourite them.

I look at them boxes first and then put it in my trolley and then shop. Must be a year since I bought one, go to a few different lidls.

My Aldi has dropped the 75% to all 50%, fridge full today at 5pm, staff member on stickers said they loosing money on the 75%. Usual bread basket bin but with a massive floor wheeley bin three quarters full beside it. Majority 50%, few 75%. Only 1 tgtg available last few days and sells out.

    The truth doesn't lie.

It's kind of impossible to lose money on something you need to pay a company to take away and dump if you can get someone to pay any amount to take it away in store. How can they lose money on reduced items they would need to pay someone to take away.

If you keep looking back you'll never see what's in front of you

People buying the reduced 75% instead of fresh 100%. Leading to more waste. The tgtg boxes took the waste, I regularly got 40e worth of stuff over the years.

Was in two different Aldi yesterday and the 75% are gone, I asked.

came on to ask the same. I had an alert set for rathcoole and 4.99,9.99 and 14.99 all went up at 11.08am and were all sold out at 11.08am, doesn't make sense. has to be bots, presume for a techie it wouldn't be hard to write one

I almost got a James Whealen bag today, I made it all the way to payment but it kept buffering and I missed out 😢 I really thought having the alert would help.

I get a James Whelan bag prob once a week on average, used to be able to get them easier before.

Just have to be really quick, I'm guessing that some people get the notifications a few seconds before others.

By the time I get the notification, Whelan's are gone. Was lucky this morning with a €15 bag

I haven’t got any since the alert option came into existence. I used to get one every few weeks before.

Spar chilled bag, which no one had a clue about and the manager then went too the fridges and decided too empty them out and ask was it ok.

For sure its looking like grocery style bags and of course Whelan's seem to be the best option from the load ive gotten!

This is crazy, as I was in one of their stores in Dublin today, and they’ve loads of stuff expiring today/tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,115 ✭✭✭jeffk

This is Navan, so not exactly Dublin but not far off it.

Would've thought being closed tomorrow and a holiday be plenty of things too make up a bag/s!

I called into Aldi this week to be told they didn't have anything picked for me and essentially suck it up. Pushed back on them saying I'd driven 10km in to collect and going home with nothing was no good to me. They miraculously had a box for me in less than 5 minutes. Seems they just couldn't be arsed doing it.

I just got an absolutely bumper bag from C+H at Glasnevin market. Haven't seen one up in months so was delighted to nab it yesterday. Collected it there and it's possibly the most food I've ever been given in a 2G2G bag. And I actually had to turn down extra stuff that they were offering because I don't have space in the freezer for it. I got:

    • Two full Tartine sourdough loaves
    • Three Tartine demi-baguettes
    • Three Tartine Brioche rolls
    • Two Tartine seeded rolls
    • Two giant filled almond croissants
    • A ham and cheese filled pastry
    • A blueberry cream pastry
    • A slab of focaccia
    • Two wedges of Cashel Blue
    • Two 500ml pouches of Carol's Stock Market bone broth

    Absolutely delighted with that.

A friend called me this afternoon about a polish bakery in Tralee. They got a bag consisting of a frozen loaf of bread and a few other bits. Was the first time getting a bag and will be the last. Has probably lost normal custom from them as well as they regularly went in.
