This does give me a good giggle too! They prob think they’re mad but the way I look at it we are not harming anyone if anything we’re the happiest people on here 😂

Snow on the cards for the counties above. None for us east Enders. We probably get more rain instead.

Given how much he posted just before he stopped it does tend to allow your mind drift to places you'd prefer not to go.

Then again the same could be said of any of the regulars here if something happened to stop them posting none of us would ever know what really happened.

Gosh guys, I didn't realise it had been that long since TRS30 posted...I remember him as such a regular poster.

Really hope he pops by again some day.

I think during Covid, we all had plenty of time to post, I know I definitely did. This forum in particular was such great company in such a strange time. Life has just been so busy since I welcome Elf 2 in 2022, that I barely get time to post. Still love reading posts though!

No snow or ice here this morning in east Meath anyway folks, so hope the night hasn't been to hard on anyone else.

Oh and happy Friday the 13th 😮😊

Have a 4 day weekend after I finish today and boy is it needed. Work is beating me down heavily of late and I really need the chance to mentally recharge/switch off.

Other than the kids GAA matches have nothing planned other than some Mothers day bits so hoping to stay away from the phone & PC for the 4 days.

We had hoped to head out as a family for dinner or suchlike to celebrate clearing the mortgage last week but with the young lad barking like a baby seal we may need to defer until he's feeling better.

None here either - although I was apprehensive opening the curtains this morning!

Friday the 13th - it's my niece's birthday today and she was a Friday 13th baby so it's a lucky day for us. Looking forward to the tea party later on. And looking forward to the long weekend. Have Afternoon Tea with my sister tomorrow, looking forward to the chats.

We are packing this weekend as we are getting out of hazard for a week and assess the situation and our plans for the next month. Suitcases are down and flights booked for Sunday night/Monday morning at 2:30am. To be honest its going to be a squeaky bum flight until we leave the danger zone (Archer). Hopefully the flight doesn't get cancelled and all parties take the night off from launching things.

Congratulations on clearing your mortgage, a real milestone in someone's life and a great achievement to reach.

You'd know we are about the same age, I only have 3 repayments to go on my mortgage.

9 on mine, but the CEO said there's a company performance uplift on the bonus next month so that may drop by a few.

I need to figure out if the 10% I'm getting off my house and car insurance for having the mortgage insurance policy with the same company is more than the mortgage insurance costs! It's extremely low.

Not sure how many we had left, but I was sick of paying that & the associated mortgage protection (which we had tied into life insurance policies also & was costing €250pm) so we decided to just clear it & be done with it all. I'll be honest, I thought the feeling of doing it would be a real buzz, but it all just felt a bit underwhelming TBH.

Maybe when I start seeing the difference in disposable income verey month it'll feel better 😉 Might even be able to fill the car up now…🤣

The only way I'll be clearing my mortgage is by winning the lotto.

Ha ha, I plan on treating myself to a new car as I'll be no worse off, the car repayments should be less than the mortgage repayments.

You sound like someone who gives up smoking and then say they don't notice the extra few quid in their pocket 🤣.

I'd say you will notice the extra few shillings in the next few months though.

I'll be drawing down a 35 year mortgage in the next year or so I'll have 420 repayments left 😅

You are not the only one @Loughc! I try not to think about it too much.

It feels at the start that it will never end, but trust me you will get to the end of it.

As we all know on here, time flys when you're following the Christmas Countdown 🤣

Ah, congrats to both - mortgage clearance for one and mortgage drawdown for another! We'll all get there someday :-) time really does fly. Safe journey, @Jude13 I've family both on holidays and living over there. Those who went on hols just went the day before it all kicked off! Bad timing. I'd like everyone to just come home safely. Not sure what those living there are planning now long term. They've often asked me out there but I couldn't stick that heat. Sure I was wishing for snow here last night! I'm a winter girl and don't like the summer to go above 23 degrees really!

I didn't realise TRS30 was gone for a long period of time as I tend to dip in and out a lot. I once disappeared off a forum for a good 7 years or so before. Just life got very busy, I forgot my password and also couldn't even find the site at one point ;-) so hopefully it's just something like that.

Well I won't be seeing any extra sheckles until next month at least so give me a chance first to see if I notice it 😉

The mad thing is, when I took out the mortgage all those years ago (21 in fact) the thoughts of 25 years of debt felt overwhelming… mad how quickly life took over & those 21 years have gone by so quickly. Its scary how fast it all goes by.

So to those of you starting a mortgage, dont let it get you down, you'll get there and there'll be hopefully plenty of highs on top of the odd low somewhere in between.

Why am I craving a guinness all of a sudden?

363 left for me.At least its cheaper than rent!

Fingers crossed we all come into money, through positive means, and we'll be living it up earlier than we think.

In the place I used to work we had "death in service" we'd get our yearly statements and there was a collective echo "yep worth more dead than alive" 😂

I actually can't remember what term mortgage I took out....at the time it was so far in the distance.....I'm about halfway through but still only a blip on the horizon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,952 ✭✭✭BK5

Something I also tell younger people who are starting their mortgages is - don't look at the statements for the first ten years, it will annoy you that the capital is still almost as big as when you started.

Last 5 to 10 years is satisfying, so try remember that. Every year you get a statement coming into the final 10 years you start to see a good chunk of change coming off what you owe on the house.

I remember the first few years looking at statements and the idea of clearing it seemed a million miles away but I ended up clearing it 5 years early last month with some careful saving.

Fair play, hope you enjoy the extra income going forward.

Thanks all, packing today, myself and the OH were woken at 3am but the little one didnt wake.

Congrats @DvB we are five years into a 25 year mortgage so Im a way off. We just agreed a new fixed rate with a new bank for the next five years, before this all kicked off. The max you can fix here is for five years and the interest rates are much higher than the EU. The property market here will tank for the next two years so many will be in negative equity.

I will have my phone at the ready at DXB as when I was there a few weeks ago I spotted some Christmas decorations still up.

@DvB congrats on clearing the Mortgage! Just watch out for that cough with your youngest it could be croup and that is nasty!

I have to say I'm thankfully every month when my mortgage goes out. I always think how lucky we are to be secure when so many people stuck renting for horrendous amounts each month. Our mortgages are a pittance compared to what they are paying, often for accomodation that's too small/ not in good condition.

Childcare is actually the one that gets me more as so expensive but will reduce a lot for us when youngest finally gets to school.

@Jude13 glad your getting out for a while to think things though. When your have a family home abroad and everyone settled not easy to just up and leave. Different for people who were only going out for a year or two to work. I hope it all works out for you.

@Jude13 so happy to see you are getting looked after, terrible circumstances, but at least you and family will be safe. Hope you and family have not been too affected by it.
